Much better than it was now it's the Victoria. Beer is nicely kept and the staff are friendly. Not a bad stopping off point on the way to the station!
This pub is in a great location for coming home from the station. So why can't it be more welcoming. It is always freezing cold and playing sport on big tv screens. My worse nightmare
Now a well-run and comfortable pub. Usually 3 ales, Deuchars, Pride & Black Sheep on my visit, and reasonable food throughout the day. 3 screens for the footie addicts, surprisingly pleasant garden out back. Clientele seem to have had a makeover as well, so pleasant atmosphere to match the decor.
Now The Victoria much better!
It's being refurbished and will soon be reopening as THE VICTORIA (it says on the door). I'm not sure whether it will remain a bar or revert to being a traditional pub, but watch this space.....
I managed to visit before it closed. Unfortunately.
I came in here once at the end of a pub crawl some time ago for no reason other than we had 15 minutes to spare before catching a train. It was a pretty grim place, horribly modernized with little character and a rather dull, depressing feel to it. When a pubs redeeming feature is that it sells Greene King IPA you know it doesnt have a lot going for it although even that particular mispleasure seemed to be lacking from the more recent reviews. Apart from my already half cut mate trying to chat up some tarted up bird, my Glass House experience was pretty forgetful. Why we didnt go in the Robin Hood instead is one of lifes little mysteries.
Still closed. Good riddance, frankly.
Formerly The Acorn, a Benskins pub & subsequently Clannard - this pub has no real ale. It was closed this evening & according to Pints of View, its gone bust. Need I say more
No beer; very much a lager-drinking sports clientele (if there are any customers at all). The food looks OK and reasonably priced, but overall I still don't "get" this place, or understand who it is trying to attract.
Not a very impressive place. The kind of place that was very quiet when I strolled in early on a weekday evening but I can imagine gets pretty crowded and unpleasant at the weekend. No real ale from what I could see.
It's okay, a bit pokey. There are a few strange locals (small bloke in a SA rugby shirt!!).
Good food and beer. Bar billiards. Wooden panels. Open fire. Horse brasses... The Acorn was a great pub. It's all gone now...
Nice staff. Odd place. Not unpleasant though.
Great pub, friendly atmosphere, lovely beer/smoking garden, plenty to do during the week including the fun weds night quiz. Weekends normally busy, the staff are a great laugh. You can watch the sport, chat with mates or have a boogie, good selection of beers and wine, brilliant pub.
To be fair I was in here on Friday night and it wasn't at all bad. Bloke behind the bar was fairly pleasant and pretty efficient as he seemed to be on his own and, it wasn't quiet and we got served smartly every time. Lager still a bit on the flat side though.
Seem to spend most of my wages in here! Enjoy the welcome, the banter and of course, the beer! Agree the garden is a big plus. Would recommend to anyone.
I've just read the comment posted about the staff last summer. I have to say that I think the staff now are 100x better. Last summer it was impossible to get served, staff would be milling about the wrong side of the bar and usually on their mobiles. At least now the bar is visibly cleaner with friendly staff (one or two quite good looking!!) and in my opinion really high standards. Oh and I too really like the garden - hate the smoking ban!
This pub use to be truly great a couple of summers ago. Those staff have long since left, and along with them has the clientele and atmosphere that made it so good. Id say the place has lost its way a little, despite its attempts to continually reinvent itself.
Enjoyed another fun afternoon/evening in the Glasshouse garden. It suits me as a smoker because the garden is lovely, heated and catches the sun! Thanks again to all the staff at the Glasshouse-a firm favourite of mine.
I gave this place another go a while ago. New colour scheme, everything else the same. Last summer two folk I know paid to have events at The Glasshouse, money changed hands, extravagant promises were made and then promptly broken. The area of the pub supposed to be sectioned off wasnt on either occasion and the sumptuous nibbles paid for were a couple of bowls of cheap crisps. Shabby. If its changed hands since then hopefully their business practices have improved as the people running it last year only had a nodding acquaintance with the concept of integrity.

Had my 30th birthday party here last week. Brilliant night - thanks to everyone at the Glass House...
The Glass House is a warm and friendly place, offering a good choice of drinks and an appetizing menu. The staff are very pleasant and engaging, actually appearing to be interested in customers rather than annoyed by them! Their new lunchtime food menu is very good and the price of the food is quite reasonable. The various entertainment on offer throughout the week is a good mix - particularly the Wednesday night quiz and the Party DJ they have at the weekends. The DJ certainly knows how to guage the crowds, his winning personality was enough to make friends with all the men and admirers of all the ladies and his musical taste was not your usual cheese but real class! If you want a pub that is close to the town centre, but not full of kids or louts then I would heartily recommend it!

Great bar. Good atmosphere. Always get a warm welcome. Enjoy watching sport on wide screens - roll on 6 Nations! Keep it up Mike and Anna
Visited this pub several times over Christmas period and always had a brilliant time. Good selection of drinks, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Will definitely be going back.
I think some of these reviews are quite harsh. Every time we've been lately the bar has been welcoming, had everything we wanted including food and the people were your usual mix of drinkers without youngsters which is quite refreshing.

I'm not sure what all the negative press here is all about. I think this bar has really pulled it's socks up. Tapas, fantastic. Good wine. Great atmosphere. Would reccommend.
The Wednesday quiz night, the excellent tapas (and good value too), friendly staff, late opening and slightly out of town location make this a desination if your're avoiding the 'yoof' at the weekend or want to catch the game on the two flat screens.
Don't know what all the negative press is about here. In with my boyfriend last night and had delicious tapas, a bottle of Pinot and continental style cold Stella. There was a lovely friendly atmosphere, good music and we had a great time. Will be going again despite this mornings hangover!!

January ... June... 23rd September... Yet again I made a rare visit to the Glass House and yet again there was no beer. But yet again the beer sign (for Bombardier) was facing outwards as if ale was available. For once there was an intelligent member of staff, who suspected that the beer might be "off" and offered me a taster, and rightly so. In the event I had to settle for a pint of Stella, which at least gets you drunk quickly! (Not that I'm a yob or anything.) But I mean ... honestly ... what is this place for? No beer, no food when I visited despite the menu on the wall, no female customers, no atmosphere, nothing. I've pencilled in another visit for March 2007, but if there's a double-booking with watching telly that night then the TV will take priority.

This part of town could do with a decent pub and this ain't it. Characterless fizz-house which presumably appeals to those types who "do lunch". Yes, life is too short to waste a drinking minute in a place like this. One point for being licensed but will somebody please do something useful with it.
Curious reverse Tardis effect in operation here, looks big enough from the outside, tiny once you get in. Very poor lager, whatever you drink it's warm, flat and charmless. Atmosphere's quite pleasant and the decking outside is good for the summer although it does mean you have to look at the moronic slogans they've posted up as if they are some kind of benign dictator commanding you to have a good time, "Relax", "Do lunch", "Life's too short". I can think of one to add to the bottom.
Yesterday I paid my first visit for 5 months, and once again there was no beer. Come on, you lot, get a grip! On a happier note, the Glass House has just been repainted and does now look quite tasteful.
Disappointing. The beer had run out, the Carlsberg had run out, and the pub was dominated by some raucous blokes effing and blinding at the rugby on TV. On the positive side, the decor is bright and clean and the barmaid was friendly, and I still think this place has potential. But the managers need to pull their socks up before it's too late.
PS: To the anonymous guy.... I dont know what the atmosphere/ staff were like on 14 October but it was great last night... Dont really mind paying 15p more for a pint if its served by a smiley face...
Fantastic quiz last night, Tuesday.... easy ones to start with but got tougher towards the end, or was that because of the Nelsons.. Quiz master was funny and great atmosphere... Is it going to be every week?
I have never been to a bar with more unfriendly staff. Overpriced drinks, atmosphere conspicuous by its absence. Bring back The Acorn!

Nice new(ish) bar outside town. Garden is great to sit in and nose at all the people going by from the station. Wine list is a bit over-priced, and the cocktail list is very limited though. Varied crowd here, from those looking chic on a Friday night, to a crowd of rugby guys when the games are on... So I'd say you need to pick when you go depending on what you are looking for!!!!

Great pub. Age above 21, not full of the very young looking to score. You can go in, meet people and actually talk. Music varies most nights - but it is in the background so that you can talk and be heard. Great staff, the owners make you feel at home and not scary for a single women to walk in and wait for her friends. All in all a great find

Fresh, lively, new bar just outside city centre. Very friendly & helpful bar staff. Very good wine list if a little pricey but lager prices ok.
