Very functional and somewhat characterless boozer beside the tube station. Some more boring office workers might have a leaving drinks here, or perhaps a meeting point before heading on somewhere else down Holloway. On match days it of course becomes an Arsenal fans only pub with security on the door, and I gather inflated prices. All in all not really a destination pub, but works well enough as a place to stop by for a swift one.

I used to enjoy this pub until a few nights ago. It would often have an interesting real ale on the pump and it was good for watching the footy. The last time I went though, my girlfriend complained about how expensive the round was (£13.60 for 3 drinks including an orange juice and soda water). So I decided to buy the same round, but asked what the price was of the drinks as I ordered. We realised we'd been overcharged by about £5. When I challenged the landlord about this, he checked the till and said that we'd ordered 4 drinks. We knew we hadn't but he was adamant we had. When I suggested he might have made a mistake he said he never makes mistakes and refused to acknowledge there was a problem. He looked very guilty though. We then realised he'd overcharged for the first round we'd bought too. Rather than cause a scene, we decided to vote with our feet and will never return to this boozer until a new landlord takes over. It's no wonder some of the other comments thought this pub was expensive. If you really want to drink in this pub, check the bar tariff first.

Has the character of an airport bar, but without the comfort of knowing you'll soon be flying away from it soon. Expensive, poor beer selection, zero atmosphere, sterile staff. Why would anyone come here?
2/10

Really basic boozer. absolute p*** take on prices on match days

Ok bar - overpriced, not great beer stick to bottles

Characterless bar handy for Holloway Road tube station and the Emirates Stadium. No real ales. Aspalls cider is still available on draught. The gents toilets were absolutely disgusting.
|
Being across the road from the London Metropolitan University this place is a student bar complete with a small room at the back for little discos and a pizza and snack making facility. As would be expected, there are specials nights and more often than not there is a theme night.
San Miguel and Aspalls cider are available alongside some standard lagers.
This is a great bar if youre a student and if you are not youd probably prefer a pub.

No real ale - in fact there is no draught bitter of any kind...

I can only think that the previous reviewers have very undiscerning standards as this seemed to be to be a very characterless bar. True, it's not intimidating, which elevates it above many of the watering holes in this area, but it has few other points of note.

A nice breezy bar with an interesting mix of students and professionals which somehow seems to create a welcoming atmosphere which is unusual given the location. Ideally situiated next door to the tube makes it a great meeting place before a big night out.

I use this place a lot and I don't think you'll find a better place in this area. The staff are friendly, the foods OK and best of all it seems to be the only place on Holloway Road thats not full of undesirables.

A breath of fresh air on the Holloway road. I don't know why I haven't been here before. You normally find a load of undesirables in pubs in this area but felt totally unthreatened in here. Good selection of drinks and the pizza's are to die for!

Not a bad place, still get your skint students hugging a beer all night but also have a very large and loud gay crowd now who are good fun, they seem to congregate on match days as well.

Moved into the area a few months back. I have checked out my local, The Metro, a few times. The bar attracts a varied crowd. On match days it's full of Arsenal fans, usually monitored by a load of Police outside. But the bar doesnt seem to attract any football idiots
Friday lunchtimes are full of council workers form the nearby depot. I had to laugh when I saw the street cleaning lorries, dust carts and equipment parked outside, whilst the thirsty lads nipped inside for a quick pint!
Good bar, wide range of beers. The new outside tables are very welcome. And with all the new apartments popping up in Hornsey Street, this bar should get a load of new customers.

metro 'bar & canteen'is a good looking, spacious venue offering top quality, uncomplicated modern british food during the daytime and cocktail fuelled DJ parties on special evenings. the fact that its located in between a college and 2 unis guarantees reasonable prices, fresh faces & good attitudes all round. all areas of the bar including the back room are available for hire - as are the decks for all aspiring bedroom DJ'on certain weekdays. sophisticated, friendly and unintimidating.

No longer Spoofers, but now called Cafe Metro. Slightly rough studenty hang-out. I have a vivid memory of someone being refused entry and then smashing in the window with his forehead! Happy days...........
