Went in to be confronted by candle lit tables all occupied by couples and no one behind the bar - went in to the other (pub) half which was closed and in darkness. Not sure what was going on but it didn't look like a normal pub so decamped to across the road.

One of the worst pubs around, under all headings.

A Tuesday night visit to Merstham for a football game & a perfect opportunity to “tick” the 3 pubs in the village.
First off is this busy local pubs at 6.40pm. Only 2 ales on which are Sharp’s Doom Bar and GK Abbot Ale. My pint of Abbot was drinkable but I don’t think the ales here get drunk often as it’s definetly a lager drinkers pub.
Television on, music playing, a bit of swearing from the locals, original fireplace, pool table out the back, fruit machines and the pub needs a good lick of paint!
A proper builders pub that is worthy of a very quick stop only, I wouldn’t want to spend more than 30 minutes here but it served a purpose.

Its coming to a spluttering start after closing down over August

They are trying to resurrect this pub, but I don't think there's much hope, its too small for a going concern. Who would want to go there for a meal? Too much riff raff coming from the local estate to make it a pleasant pub, shame! Best to convert it into a house.

Under new management. Acoustic Jam night starting every wednesday

Went in this pub recently for a pint after there was some issues with the train but ended up walking out. It was like a scene from the wild west with almost complete silence as someone other than a regular walked in the door. I was stood at the bar and waited for service but 2 clearly local people that the bar staff knew walked up behind me and were served drinks before I was even asked what I would like to order. Walked out and back to the station I went with a bottle of coke that came from the garage. Has the potential to do well but clearly the regulars only want other regulars there.

Following the shabby service received in The Feathers, we crossed the road and visited the Railway.
From the outside we were not expecting much.
Inside a proper pub, friendly landlord, reasonable good value menu, substantial potions (to much in fact). Good pint of GK IPA.
Judging by the number of customers obviously benefiting from the terrible service in the Feathers. A few people like us had voted with their feet it would appear.
Only one downside was the presence of a foul mouthed (local) sitting at the bar who seemed incapable of stringing a sentence together without the use of the F word, a bit worrying he seemed to be there with his very young son.

We went into this pub by chance as we missed our train. What a little gem, friendly locals, nice and clean with a proper cor blimey Landlady straight out the East End. Will certainly go back to try the food.

How unfriendly is this place!! Thought we would look for a new local but it won't be this one. The landlady was too busy chatting to a regular and changing TV channels to be bothered to say hello. Got a couple of grunts when we ordered our drinks but no civility until the glasses were empty but we weren't prepared to spend any more time or money in this pit.

The locals pub. This became the 'works' local when the Feathers over the road, changed hands and became run down (it's changed hands again & is much better). My favorite memory of this bar was the on going quiz on our first visit. A bra was pinned to the bar - with sign saying "Guess how many ponuds in Jilly Jugs" I'm not sure if anyone ever one. Split into 2 bars in the old Saloon / Public bar fashion.

Small old-fashioned pub, seems to have been recently refubished. Mostly local 30/40-something builder types when I was in there, friendly enough atmosphere. Greene King beers on handpump, which aren't a favourite of mine unfortunately. Better choice of beers across the road in the Feathers, but the Railway is probably the better pub.

Quite possibly one of the seediest, but friendliest pubs in England. On the A22 (fairly busy road) in the picturesque village of Merstham, the Railway is for locals and visitors alike. Pretty courtyard garden, restaurant attached, good value bar meals, quiz nights, dart board and slot machines, it is small, with alcoves and fairly clean loos. Dave, the bar manager/owner/tender, has been there forever. The pub is surrounded by antique stores and a petrol station - but backs onto some fine Surrey countryside walks, and is very close to the local pretty village cricket ground. Rivaled by the Feathers (opposite) those who wish to experience "Real" Merstham village will always pick the Railway. Used to have a really good Seafood van in the driveway at weekends, but believe that has now gone. Shame - divine lobster tails for the barbie! Many will remember Rob from Aus in the bar - regularly spent his salary in the slot machine.
