Went into this pub at 12.30pm and was greeted by friendly northern landlady. Pub has got a good feel about it apart from the intrusive pool table and they have good offers on drink and lunch which undercuts the Swan across the road (not that difficult).

Problem is that as she has only been there for 4 weeks she's "testing the water" before serving real ale. Bad mistake so a swift exit was made.

Went in there a couple of weeks ago to see some live bands playing. The place was packed and the atmosphere good, both inside and out. Everybody very friendly, bar staff fine BUT no real ale at all. All three handpumps were not being used. That was a major disappointment so I made do with one bottle of London Pride all evening. Such a shame as the rest of the evening was very good. Pubs like this need to get their act together so that ale drinkers aren't disappointed. Not everybody is content to drink lager or guiness etc. I'd go there again however, just for the music.

Visited lunchtime and found this place to be friendly. I accidentally spilled my beer over my wife's food, and they immediately replaced it without question. Excellent customer service. 2 ales on tap, Courage Best and Bombadier (excellent pint - 2.50).
Good pub without pretentions.

Visited 25Oct07. Landlord friendly enough, but only draught beer on offer was John Smith's at 3 a pint.
Probably wouldn't bother again.

I do not have enough good things to say about this Pub. I stayed two weeks on a business trip next door in the Ann Boleyn Hotel and was looking for a quite place with nice conversation for my evening beers. Stopped in a few pubs in Staines and finally settled for the Jolly Farmer, Ended up staying until closing time each day I was there. If you want a Sports Bar like what you may find in America, go elsewhere. This is a nice, authentic, English Pub where you will meet great people and good conversation. Can not wait to go back and meet with James, Brim Emma, Jay, Alan and all the regulars..
If you go there please mention The Puertorrican Guy sent you...

Called in here for a quick pint the other day - it was Courage Best and was sour! Landlord was sorry and offered me a bottle of London Pride for the same price. OK otherwise.

No ale on my visit, and no sign of it ever being available either. Still almost 100% male oriented.

It doesn't seem cared-for. Unclean ashtrays and crisp packets were scattered around yesterday, despite there only being a handful of people in there. The TV wasn't tuned in properly (now hard can that be? Who is going to watch the football at your pub when all you offer is a small screen telly with a crackly picture, while almost every other pub in Staines that shows sport now has widescreen HDTV and a sound system to match?). Pretty grubby place really, needs a good clean , new carpets and some kind of selling point.

The sad fact is that it really could be quite good, with a bit of effort.

Smallish unremarkable locals pub just over the road from The Swan Hotel on the river. No real ale on yesterday evening, but usually offers London Pride apparently.

Spend a lot of time in here at lunchtime from work! Really good, good honest grub and good friendly landlord. Also good music on a Saturday night

A MAN pub, full of MEN, doing MEN things. Lots of smoke.

If that's for you, then great. If not, then try The Swan or the Bells.

Smallish friendly pub with a lot of character. A nice size courtyard to enjoy a quite drink of a summers evening away from the normal haunts like the Swan over the road. Live bands are a regular attraction.
