The Red Lion is well renowned locally for its good pub food and decent range of beers and is a former winner of the Chiltern Food Pub of the Year in 2008, and has been a frequent entry in Camra's GBBG.
Can vouch for the food as we took the opportunity to eat here and it was very decent quality and certainly seemed to be home cooked fare.
There are four handpumps on the bar which included Vale's Best Bitter, Hook Norton Double Stout, and the pubs own Lion Pride, which is supposedly brewed especially for the pub by the Rebellion brewery, but tasted spookily similar to Rebellion Red to me. But not bemoaning that as the Red is one of my favourite brews from the Marlow brewery.
All in all a solid village pub and well worth the small detour from J18 of the M25.

brilliant village pub, in an astonishgly beautfull village. Always full on sundays with a nice atmosphere. the beer is always good, and the service was good too. the food, although priced in accordance with the expensive area, is good. only the veg on the sunday roast was near raw as opposed to crunchy. a matter of taste i guess. brilliant pub.

Have to say that overall I was a bit disappointed given the long-standing GBG status. To be fair the beer I tasted was absolutely fine, and the food (a baguette) was also very acceptable. Like the last reviewer I felt that the young staff could do with a bit more training in social skills like thanking us for our custom on departure (isn't it amazing how few pubs seem to do this, it doesn't cost anything but engenders so much goodwill). the building was too far upmarket for my taste and the abusive sign on the door about muddy boots promising further abuse for offenders was hardly welcoming (and certainly not funny if that is the intent). Amusingly a group of blue-rinse Daily-Mail middle aged women were discussing the Euro crisis over their wine: "That Papandreou should be shot...."......

Food and drink were good. However the bar staff were not helping. The barmaid looked at the wall rather than the customers and obviously was in the wrong job and certainly did not show any bonhomie. The barman did not engage anybody and just moved glasses about. Although there were a few customers the atmosphere was extremely constrained They are not doing you any favours Mike and Heather

A rare discovery these days - a pub serving decent food with a good range of real ales.
Had a nice dish of bubble and squeak washed down with Vale's Best Bitter, Rebellion Lion Pride and Osset's Light Ale.............ahhhhh.

Visited on Sunday 25 July evening.
This is an excellent pub. Good range of cask ale, good "pub grub" food. Cheerful service and not refurbished by B & Q.
It is the sort of plavce that really merits support at the moment.

Great, lives up to the Good Pub Guide review. Excellent beer and grub. Good location, friendly and efficient staff. Generally very welcoming and worth a return visit.

50s country pub atmosphere - good food and outdoor setting.

Fantastic free house, village pub. Great food sourced locally, prepared and cooked by the in house chef and team. Bens Bitter, 6X, and various local beeers. No Children, music, or fruit machines, very traditional!
