The London Stone is another pub that has improved since my last visit. Service wasn't the most friendly. But it was prompt. Wild Beer Millionaire & Hogs Back TEA were the 2 ales. Lilley's Pineapple Cider was also on handpull. There was an interesting selection of cans and bottles in the fridges. A band was being set up at the one end. At the same end, the gents' toilets were in a fairly poor condition. A much better visit though, before we moved onto our main destination of the evening, the Thames Side Brewery & Tap Room and before finishing at the Staines Riverside Club (neither are listed on BITE).
|
Now the LONDON STONE. Quiet during the day, very friendly landlord and excellent range of beers. We intended having one round here and ended up having three! Looks like it may become noisy and disco-like later at night, but a great beer drinkers' pub during the day. Pizza advertised but not tried.
|
Now called the London Stone and offering a better selection of ales, I can't say I was impressed with this place. Waited almost 10 minutes to get served, despite two guys ignoring me. They definitely had the ability to dispense beer as I observed them later. When finally served by the overworked barmaid, it took an eternity to pour a half and I ended up with the last half from the box, which wasn't in the best of form. Only one table was remaining without a reserved sign. So I went for that, only to be informed by one of the two lazy barmen that I needed to move as that table (despite not having a notice) was reserved too. I informed him that I'd be delighted to vacate the premises! Poor welcome, poor service. A strange way to treat customers. Ales were Hop Art Hoppist, Windsor & Eton Kohinoor IPA & Hammerpot Australian Pale. The cider was Westons Cider Twist Raspberry.
|
Perhaps not the place to find the glitterati, however a dj and pool table will bring in a more "salt of the earth" type of fellows. Beer was ok and the decor in the Gents is a worthwhile excursion.
|
Popped into Hobgoblin last night , and they had Binghams Brit Hop Pale Ale, St.Austells Tribute, Wychwood Hobgoblin and Timothy Taylor Landlord on handpump, and barman was knowledgable about beer. There was some loud rock music from the jukebox, and decoration in gents also, err, interesting. Lots of standing room and a pool table, so I'd guess pretty lively on a Saturday night.
|
Popped in for a few last night had a good time and noticed the truly fit barmaids, nice touch!!
|
Good pub this but teh wrong end of the high street for me to stagger home from. Nice atmosphere and good music. The beer and staff are great as well unfortunately I don't want to fight through the gangs of pikeys on my way home of a night so the Hob is a Sunfay afternoon drink for me if I get up to that end of Staines. Like it though, a lot.
|
Not really my cup of tea but my grand children love it in there say its a good pub for them to use.
|
Always like this pub, has cleane4d up a bit recently to but the beer is a little off the wall for some people but I am not particularly fussy. I like this place.
|
Love going here as the music, clientele and bar staff are all good. Things have certainly got cleaner over the past couple of months as well, can no longer smell the mens as you walk in! Bar service is quick, never had to wait too long to be served, which is good as its frustrating being invisible. My male friends say the Ale is good, and I like the fact that you can sit outside with a drink in the smoking area under cover and with a heat lamp. If you're after a clinical bar then this isnt the place for you, maybe try Baroosh or Que Pasa, but if you enjoy a good atmosphere and a wide range of friendly people then definately give it a go.
|
Hey people, Having taken over the Hobgolin 8 weeks ago. The hob is rockin again! After blood, seat and tears cleaning the place from top to bottom. The cellar especially!!! The pub is closely approaching the standards that I know you will expect. A pub should smell like a bloody living room not a dirty public toilet! I have been on at beer in the evening to change the name registered on this site but have yet to receive a reply, since when was it the Red Lion in Woburn Green! Its the Hob to its locals and with a little bit of tlc those locals are increasing! Good honest service, and beer to be proud of! If youve been put off in this past, then pop in again! I promise you'll notice the difference! If you see the bald guy BEHIND the bar mention this post and i'll kindly share your thoughts over a pint of treacle stout or an old fashioned!
|
this used to be one of Staines best but its just dirty now. Still has great music but desperately needs a clean. Beer selection is different but I have never had a bad pint there. Its a6 for me but if they cleaned it up it would be a 9.
|
A hidden gem, very small interior but always a good crowd of people, good atmosphere, good music. Well worth a visit.
|
Went in Hobgoblin again last night - for the music. Second time in five weeks. Just as good as the first time. Good music, good atmosphere and EXCELLENT real ale. I had Wychwood 'Bountiful' and Itchen Valley 'Treacle Stout' - both superb, and served by very friendly bar staff. Lovely pub.
|
We went to this pub last night specifically for the music. We had an excellent time. The pub was packed, the music was really great and there was a superb atmosphere. To make things even better we had a couple of pints of Itchen Valley 'Summer Breeze' which was delicious. That was one of four ales on offer. The two bar staff were very friendly and efficient too. In fact they added to the evening by their enthusiasm and general cheerfulness. I spoke to them before leaving to thank them for their hospitality and they told me that they always have four ales on, two of which are regularly changing guest ales. 10/10 to this pub for its efforts. I'll certainly be returning on one of their music nights (Sundays/Thursdays).
|
We were disappointed by this one. Four real ales were on offer - Potbelly Black Sun, Ringwood Boomdoggle, Wychwood Hobgoblin and Greene King IPA. Service was extremely friendly, but the place was practically empty and lacked any kind of atmosphere. The interior was poorly decorated and more akin to a nightclub. I doubt we'd come here again. The George is a better option.
|
was a cool pub with great beer and great music but now the place is filthy dirty throughtout and the beer is BAD, as for the bands and music, it mostly seems amatureish and ill rehersed with few exceptions,,,, best avoided !
|
Love this pub! Its awesome!
|
i still miss the old hob :-( but still the best pub in town
|
This Pub is by far the greatest pub you'll find anywhere outside of Camden!! It has friendly atmosphere, everyones welcome whether your goth, emo or just badly styled! The staff are super duper friendly quick and effiecient (i am one) and the range of beer is pretty good too.
The smelly toilet problem has been dealt with and they now smell of roses, if the blokes didnt wee on the floor they might well smell even sweeter!!!
So come on down, live music thursdays and sundays!!!
Comedy nights to come!!
YOU WONT REGRET IT!!
|
Used to be the best pub in Staines- is now by far the worst!
|
Fairly good selection of beers and friendly bar staff. Food good but toilets are radically bad. Crowd is young and unusually mixed for the locality. The beer garden gets packed with smokers condensed into a tiny area.
|
im a regular at the live music nights. great atmos and good times.
mixed crowd and everyone is friendly
|
Used to be my favourite pub (in Staines), but the last visit has put me off. Wall-2-wall blokes with skin heads and a handful of goth students who had Megadeath playing their entire back catalogue on the jukebox....nice atmos!
Toilets are still a disgrace.
|
Still easily the best pub in Staines, but due in large part to the fact the competition just isn't getting any better.
Has lost a lot of the old atmosphere, and the quality of the barmaids has declined rapidly since Alistair's departure. That and the fact that they have a new guy who is possibly the rudest barman i have ever come across. He's a big lanky ginger fellow with an appauling beard and he was really short with me and my girlfriend when we popped in for a lunchtime drink recently whilst doing our Christmas shopping. You could tell he didn't want to be there and so took it out on us.
Shame about the Thai food as well-that used to be really good.
|
bring back ian bring back dwayne and turn it back into the hob we all knew and loved were all getting old now but we still know how to have a good time and this aint it
anonymous - 18 Nov 2007 21:11 |
went in on a thursday because of live music. real mix of cultures. you had bikers, goths, students, OAPS, businessmen and ordinary joes like myself. v. busy but no trouble. although i can imagine it has seen its fair share
|
How can you justify increasing the price of the drinks without fixing all the problems, toilets are a state and the lump in the floor is still there. Must be going on a year now!
anonymous - 20 Aug 2007 10:47 |
Went there on saturday night and I was not impressed to say the least. The last time I was in this pub I was about 17 and it was dark and dingy-from what I can remember!
The pub seems to have work done to it and it is now painted white and is very spacious inside-however, the tabels were full of empty glasses and bottles and with ash trays over flowing. At one point the bar maid came over to the our table and I said to her these are all finnished pointing to about 5 glasses and 5 bottels on the table and she picked up 2 glasses and walked back behind the bar. I then had to empty our own ashtray and take to bottels to the bar so we could relax and talk over the music. That I can all understand it was quite busy in there and there only seemed to be 2 people behind the bar the toilets are an entirely different matter.
When I walked into the ladies toilet, the first thing I noticed was the amount of water on the floor which appeared to be coming from the toilets. No signs to say say wet floor or anything. The toilets quite frankly were disgusting.
I have no plans to return to this pub,and I will advise my friends to do the same.
|
Visited on sunday 1st april to see mates band the Veenex play a shambolic set( no fault of their own, I hasten to add)The place was absolutely rammed and unbelievably there were six bands booked which probably explains the crush, god knows what time the last one came on.There was a big problem with the PA which made for an interesting night. Little word of advice to the piss taking indie sterotypes near the jukebox, it had nothing to do with the band chaps
|
Beer range heading the same way as Jenna Jameson.
A waste - used to be so much better!
|
What has happened here? Popped in yesterday, only 1 ale on = Hobgoblin. This was in poor quality and had bits floating in it. 2.65 a pint too...
|
sorry but what pub was Glenmorangie visiting? the hobgoblin is a small pub in the town centre and where do you play french cluedo???? get the right pub next time
anonymous - 19 Nov 2006 14:47 |
Top pub with great Continentals and pretty good bitters. Sociable opening hours mean this place gets busy, even though it's enormous. Wonderful atmosphere most of the time. We played French Cluedo here. Hard to fault, except it's just a little out of town, but definitely worth the walk.
|
Best pub in Staines by a long shot.... Simon and Sandra are absolutely lovely and make all there customers feel at home... and plus, its the only pub in Staines that actually plays decent music!!
Thai food is great... beer is cheap... what more could you really wish for!!!
anonymous - 1 Sep 2006 08:56 |
"the landlord such an improvement on Alastair!".... not on the ale front mate I'm afraid.
The beers were always top notch and with an eclectic choice. Now your lucky to find one mediocre-quality ale on sale.
|
Roaring fire?? They have not be lit since Del left and come to think of it, the first refit. Still a great Pub and the landlord is such an improvemnt on Alister!
anonymous - 3 Aug 2006 13:32 |
As you can tell from the photograph, a pleasant enough looking boozer this, and it's a similar story inside. Roaring real fire in winter, decent garden in summer. Good selection of beers and an above-average wine-list for a pub. They've got bar billiards as well!! The landlord and his girlfriend are really friendly folk... hence my quick one before heading back to London became 4 or 5!!
|
Okay so we didn't win it, but the Hob is still the best pub in Staines.
|
Beer and ladies are priorities 2 and 3 (not neccessarily in that order) during the world cup. Which we're going to win.
|
The Hob has always been a great boozer, shame though about the football, football and more football! What happened to Beer and Ladies? Have They gone out of fashion?
|
TSW- I often drink with Rich in here. THE best pub in Staines if you like good music and good beer. Lets be honest mate a Sunday is not the best indication of a pub! Good music and chilled atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday
|
Recommended to me by a mate well into his music so I was a little disappointed when I popped in there for the first time on sunday. Thought it might have a bit more of an alternative feel but it came across as being a bit poncey. To be fair I was only there briefly so theres probably more to it than meets the eye, apparently Hard-Fi drink in there as well
|
Cracking. Always has a good atmosphere unlike some of the others. Jukebox ace and the new manager is a geezer.
|
I have been a loyal Hob customer for years as well as an employee pre and post (proper)refurb I still think this is one of the nicest places to go in Staines and always head there first when I come back to the area. The crowd, music and staff are nice though agree with mr anderson about the prison cellesque walls. I am completely biased (always considered the place mine, it wasn't) but I would very much recommend a trip here.
|
Nice to see it's been given a lick of paint at last and the colour scheme doesn't clash all over the shop. It's just a shame they chose the sort of mushroom colour used to subdue mental patients. Are they trying to tell us something? It's vile. New jukebox, though, one of those digital jobs with different sub-genres to choose from. I selected indie and it gave me 'Page 1 of 111' WA-HEY!
|
Ok ok! Brining back Del was a bit hasty, And now it seems that Alistair is also on the move, so long and farewell to the the Landloard that has brought us a fine selection of barmaids ;)
|
Its finally having a refurb! Will hold judgement, as what theyve done so far doesnt hint at what the finished effect will be. Let hope theyre not just coping any of the other pubs in Staines.
anonymous - 6 Feb 2006 14:17 |
Agree with the previous poster it does need a lick of paint but not at the expense of turning it into something close to the inside of a well known Swedish furniture retailer ie. hearing aid beige.
|
It was Del that gave us more-light-fittings-than-punters and the Wild Man of Borneo in the first place, but apart from that I agree with you, it is a little unloved and shabby but it's still the most eclectic, mixed clientelle pub in Staines. Nothing a lick of paint wouldn't put right. And toilets that actually work, of course.
anonymous - 31 Jan 2006 14:52 |
As someone who lived, worked, and drank in the Old Hob, I would like to say that this pub has now lost its edge, It's unloved and neglected,Christ! Even Scottish Alan hardly drinks in here any more, never thought that would happen.
Bring back Del! at least he gave a SH*T....
|
The only pub in Staines where you'll hear decent music on the Jukebox. Lovely bar staff, friendly regulars - great Christmas and New Years Eve parties, DJ played Indie and Rock (and a bit of funk and ska) - hopefully DJ will return for regular gigs in 2006. Recommended.
|
Funny pub, cliential are mixed with young and old alike. Had a range of beers on from 'Church End Brewery' all very drinkable. Juke box plays loud rock music and there were two TV's on showing sport. One of the better pubs in the town center.
|
The sort of pub that appeals to everyone, friendly bar and door staff, good service. Toilet door has a habit of breaking which can be a bit disconcerting trying to hold the door shut with one foot whilst trying to give birth to an otter.
|
I think this place is an excellent place to socialise in Staines - the beer is tasty and varied, the clientele are (gasp) a mixture of locals, students and oldies and the doormen are perfectly pleasant individuals.
Excellent for a drink in the evning/late, though can be a bit murky in the afternoon. The music can be loud, but that's par for the course in a town centre, it's the same at any other and at least her it's not the RnB fest so favoured by other places - if you want a quality pint in peace then carry on down the road to the Bells. If you're out on the town with some mates, I can't recommend this enough.
|
Decided to try the food on offer, as metallica didn't compliment this with my burst ear drums, did 180 degree turn, left that quick I left scorch marks on the floor. TURN THE MUSIC DOWN!
anonymous - 11 Aug 2005 01:25 |
Still the best (and possibly the only real) pub in Staines.
|
not sure why people are still goin on about keane there never there anymore! i pop down reguarly jus to see if the famous lads are decorating the place with unwashed, student, sexy look.. but no!! whats goin on their a landmark of staines. Barmaids are still great and 'beerabuser' should proberly stop moanin bout the choice of music, you aint the one stuck behind the bar servin the drink you apparently abuse..thats why this pub works cos it isnt specifically one type, anything goes!
anonymous - 24 May 2005 09:20 |
Spent yesterday afternoon in here, shame the barmaid decided to select every McFly and Girls Aloud song on the Jukebox every other hour! What happened to the days of old when the jukebox had less than 2 or 3 Now albums. Now that isnt what I call music.
|
They guys everyone keeps talking about are ok, they just wanna have a laugh. Ok, maybe they do like drinking most nights of the week but so what? They are a young group of lads......isn't everyone their age the same?? As for the unwashed look.........S.E.X.Y.!! So all you losers, leave them alone!!
anonymous - 2 Mar 2005 14:32 |
What is all this fuss about the Strokes/Keane wannabees?
If they are the same people I saw last Friday they were nothing more than a group of overweight students with crap hair just having a good session.
Definitely not threatening and full of piss and wind
Is_it - 28 Feb 2005 12:40 |
i have recently moved to the area of staines and went to this pub last night and what a lovely place it is, the thai food is amazing and its got a really friendly atmosphere. i didnt see any unwashed students but on the table next to me was a group of young lads that were drinking the evil snakebite, they didnt look unwashed though, in fact they looked pretty dam good from where i was looking!! i will make this my new local from now on, i had a lovely evening and would be nothing without it! two thumbs up!!
|
check out the barmaids!!! BETTER than HOOTERS!
anonymous - 25 Feb 2005 14:44 |
Had a great night on Tsunami benefit gig, some great live bands and an extended license went down a treat! A great atmosphere all evening. The 'scuffle' outside due largely to the huge balding bouncer type figure should be considered minimal and well handled compared to other bars in Staines! Looks like some people need to get over 'Strokes' & 'Keane' and start enjoying themselves! Easily the best pub in Staines! Trouble free, good music, great staff, exciting bar. What more can you ask for???
anonymous - 25 Feb 2005 12:19 |
used to love this pub till keane started actin like they own the place! as for those birds thier with every single night these days, either they actually think those boys are keane or thier all blind! food hits the spot though every time especially after a few pints. as far as bar staff go they might aswell rename the pub hooters!
|
I don't see anything funny or cool about having a ruck outside the pub on the night of the Tsunami Benefit Gig, do you?
Snakebite and fighting - what utter clowns.
anonymous - 24 Feb 2005 18:12 |
why does everyone know the strokes and like them. they are rowdy and drink too much.
anonymous - 24 Feb 2005 15:20 |
Fantastic bar, jukebox kicks out good music and there is the occasional live band. Friendly bar staff are only too pleased to meet all your drinking needs! A no chavs or pikey policy is well enforced! Great place to watch the sport or to spend a Friday night. The strokes can be loud but they are funny. There is never any trouble and the atmosphere is good!
|
This place keeps getting better and better. "The Strokes" are part of the furniture and won't be going anywhere else soon, thanks to them the place is still running due to copius amounts of Snakebite consumed. Barmaids past and present decorate the bar nicely as well as keeping the banter up as the ales goes down. This is what dreams are made of, you are always guaranteed a 'lovely' evening!
|
Think the 'unwashed miscreants' are the student-a-penny lads that go in with The Strokes' style but come across, sadly, like Keane. Whoops!
Ace pub, still scummy and long may it stay that way.
|
had lunch there today. food was spot on and less than a fiver for real thai grub! only took 5 mins from ordering at bar! great job keep it up.
anonymous - 18 Feb 2005 21:26 |
who are the unwashed miscreants???
|
Ok, I have been here a few times and enjoyed it but it has now been invaded by a group of unwashed miscreants.(you know who you are)who appear to spend every night in there. I daren't go in for fear of having 'oi slag' hurled at me or 'oi slut, gis a fag' they really are the most charming people! Its a shame as it is the only place in the hell hole that is staines that plays a selection of decent music. Im sorry but I wouldn't step foot in there again. Shame.........
anonymous - 18 Feb 2005 13:24 |
super smashing great. plenty of barmaids just what u want!! no idiots in here just decent people up for a good night. great for sports.
anonymous - 15 Feb 2005 19:43 |
what a great pub! has fantastic fit barmaids who dont mind giving u extra head! real thai food served 'till 10pm at less than a fiver! massive big screen and other smaller tellys to watch all sky sports on. good older crowd drinking in here. over 21's bar with a great atmosphere. u cannot move come football matches get here early to ensure a seat. also a great range of real ales 4 at a time that constantly change. wow! loadsa premium spirts and great tasting draught beer unlike wetherspoons or most other pubs in town. this is the pub to go to...
anonymous - 15 Feb 2005 19:38 |
Scruffy place but the best in Staines to watch the footie.
The Thai food served is great.
Is_it - 31 Jan 2005 13:57 |
Always enjoyed drinking in the hob but now they have that Added thing, the icing on the cake, the BARSTAFF. Paddy and Alistair(?) seem to posses an interviewee Criteria that no male, and i suppose, many a female punter can argue with. Why decorate the walls or repair seats when all your customer's eyes notice are the screens for the football or the sirens behind the bar. And being Staines you'd expect the sirens to be screeching to a halt outside the pub to arrest some young STAINITE. It's a good dirty pub , the way they once were in staines. So my dad told me. It may not be the cleanest pub around, but at least it retains some character! Which is easily seen through the wide spectrum of customers (and now, thankfully, barstaff) that come through the doors... Almost a local pub for local people
anonymous - 30 Nov 2004 11:50 |
Now serving Thai food....and it's pretty good. A bastion of pubs that don't have stupid Hitler type bouncers. Service is usually on the ball, and a good place to watch football. The return of the eccletic juke-box has been welcomed.
|
Does need a refit but not at the expense of turning the place into a funpub/disco/winebar/bistro standard out of the box kit pub. Staff are all very friendly and don't bat an eyelid at some of the antics that get you thrown out of other pubs in Staines (moving furniture, standing in the wrong place etc.) The place to watch football and usually devoid of charvers.
Si - 9 Aug 2004 15:40 |
The atmosphere in this place has been improving over the past few weeks. Its becoming a more enjoyable place to go and stay for the whole evening. It has now got a pretty good mix of music on the jukebox. The only down side is the every increasing amount of damage to the fixtures and fittings.
|
Has become a bit run down recently, but still a good choice for an evening. Repels the usual Staines charver crowd for some reason (probably because they don't play So Solid Crew) and the top choice for watching football in Staines. Bar staff are always friendly.
anonymous - 19 Jul 2004 14:14 |
For real ale drinkers, this pub has improved in leaps and bounds over the past six months. Usually 3 or 4 differing beers on...all at 2.20/pint. Makes a nice change from The George for ale drinkers. Keep it up.
Bob the Binman - 15 Jul 2004 16:21 |
Lo and behold the light fittings are fixed and the jukebox is back. Get some indie tunes on and we're coming back in here.
Mr Anderson - 23 Jun 2004 11:41 |
Still one of the best in Staines and has managed to almost be a CHARVER free zone (CFZ). Used to be a great pub in the past but was lacking and rippers. Needs to be fixed up a bit and some fly spray wouldn't go a miss!
Nick - 17 Jun 2004 12:00 |
I agree with Mr Anderson this pub has seen better days. What this pub needs is a landlord/manager and team that want to turn this pub back into a place to go. You see less and less people in on a Friday and Saturday, do you need to do something to attract drinkers away from other pubs? Even though before the refit it seemed like you didnt need to attract a crowd. Bring back the jukebox is what I say or better still invest into a video jukebox. A mix of rock, punk, dance and rap made for an interesting night of drinkers music. Oh and kill that red couch for god sake put the thing out of its misery.
|
The staff are cool, but sadly it's becoming very clear that every corner is being cut to reduce cost - the broken sofas & light fittings often make it look like there's been a ruck. And the less said about the loos backing up, the better, along with the cubicles having no doors for long periods of time (which is an instant H & S shutdown, surely?). Shame to see it turning into such a shithole, time to move on.
Mr Anderson - 6 May 2004 13:49 |
quality pub, lovely staff
joe - 24 Dec 2003 13:12 |
" micky wants micky wants"!!this pub has a high ratio of men to women, actually sometimes i think if you just renamed the pub the goblin it might be more apt!roasties are ok,meat can be a bit tough, drinks ok ish......good atmos for the rugby but it can get a bit smokey (and the bandits!!),this place definately needs a extractor fan!!......the funniest thing happen recently when the bar got a band in who did punky covers on saturday the 7th december.the big footie screen showing barcelona v real went up with no warning and the band (of two folks) banged out their songs.lots of miffed faces and disgruntled drinkers.think not the best choice for a band night!!! never get any hassle if your drunk in there but have been told to stop dancing when they have had music on in the past.the little black statue with the big black schlong is a great pub piece.long live the goblin and all who sail (to drunkeness)on him
jimmyb - 9 Dec 2003 14:44 |
Was in here over weekend sadly did'nt see a ghost. Although did see a superb looking bird to take my attention away from conversation with mates. Bouncers very friendly and open doors for you. Also beers not that bad. I recommend.
Ali J - 10 Nov 2003 10:49 |
Rumour has it that the Hob is haunted. People used to see this gaunt middle aged man staggering around the place. Occasionally even during opening hours. Bar staff would come in and find the bottles of spirits depleted and there were often loud ramblings from the microphone. There has been no activity apparently for a few months now.
Jim - 31 Oct 2003 16:06 |
Hey Hobgoblin Ex-Barman from august 2003+ jst would like to clarify that they did serve becks and that they stopped it due to the change of beer suppliers who did not sell this particular brand of beer. Also like to say that Del has gone and the new boss is in. Also News update for you all.
Balaclava Pub Co. owners of HObgoblin have gone into recievership so you can all safely say things in there are going to be shitty soon, love to hear from the old barstaff, pippa, karen, mark, and all the rest of you Love Ads
P.s, they still got my ted baker and adidas jacket, Gits!!
|
Have a good laugh down this pub, from the tender age of 16 when I first wandered in and was served a blue qube. Loved it from then! lol. Prefer the people here to ne where else, some gud games of pool with paul an co
Kim - 17 Sep 2003 16:19 |
Hello. There was Becks on tap at one time cos there was a big, f**k-off tap on the bar that would obscure particularly small bar-staff from your view when being served. I wanted that tap :-(. Anyhoo, The Lemon has nothing more to worry about, me neither. There'll be a few imminent homecoming do's I expect and the new landlord, Andy, seems pretty cool. Agree with Rav wholeheartedly about the jukebox, mind. What makes me laugh is the photo on this site featuring a certain red bicycle...Who Rides A Bicycle Like This? Shouldn't be too surprised, I suppose!
Now I think it is time to get pissed up on BOOZE.
Mr Anderson - 27 Aug 2003 13:21 |
There was definetly becks on tap cos i was gutted when i went in there and it had suddenly gone!
anonymous - 10 Aug 2003 16:23 |
Thanks to the testaments of fellow Hob drinkers, I now feel fully vindicated over my claim to have drunk Becks on tap there. Let’s see what the infamous afroman (if that is his real name) says now. Not a lot I would suspect.
Becks Fan 1 - Afroman 0 - 5 Aug 2003 13:14 |
The only decent pub in Staines. I really hope they never let in the YSL & baseball cap kids..
El Bonos - 1 Aug 2003 16:25 |
The pub is possibly the best in Staines (although that's very subjective). it could be even better with a music license and by bringing back the jukebox!
Rav - 31 Jul 2003 11:26 |
Oh no Craigy - I prefer a Stella - or a Bud, I very rarely drink Becks...just wanted to say I DO remember there being Becks on tap !
Keara - 31 Jul 2003 10:00 |
Whats wrong with u guys??? Becks is poor, try a Stella, fantastic!

Ok - I have a couple of things to say. I am in agreement with Becks fan ! I too have been drinking in the Hob for a long old time (yes, way, way back pre-refurbishment and much better in my humble opinion ! :) and there WAS Becks on tap !! Im not sure how many years back Im going, but there definitely was !!
Craig ...are you sure you were as innocent as you are making out you little rascal ?! ;) Ive seen you be naughty !! :) I have to say, I really like Del and have found him to be a great landlord - the fact you kept going back in probably just pi*sed him off ?! Not sure ?? I thought we hadnt seen you for a while !! This explains it !! Hope you manage to sweet talk your way back in ya big Lemon - missed the cheeky grin!! ;)

I had been drinking in the HobGoblin for 15yrs,knew the old land lord Ian,we got on really well but he went to the Newark Hob.Del the new landlord took over whilst it was still an old pub,we seemed to get on well enough,i was never any trouble and my friends and i spent fortunes in the place,1 nite about 6 weeks 2 months ago alot of my friends and i watched England beat Ireland in the 6 nations cup at Twickenham,we all went back to the Hob afterwards and ok,wed had a skinfull,i was served 2 Redbull and Vodkas which i drank in the space of half an hour,i then went over to play pool with my friends at which point Del stopped me in my tracks and said i was too drunk?!,i complained but sat and watched the game anyway,as my friends got up to leave,Del told them i had to go too,i didnt really understand but left.Ok i was drunk but i wasnt stupid drunk,i decided against my better judgement to go back in,told Del i wasnt that bad but he insisted i leave,i wasnt nasty towards him and left again,i then went back in and Del then Barred me FOR LIFE or until he has left the pub/bar,i have a massive group of friends who meet and drink in the Hob and it really messes there nights up when i meet them,we end up in the Blue Anchor. I want to start a SAVE THE LEMON(my name)CAMPAIGN,it is unjust and totally over the top, thankyou Craig Lemon.

I'm certain I was drinking Becks in the Hob while watching last seasons Champions league final. But I can also recall drinking a pint of the stripe there ages ago. Way back pre-refurbishment when it was a dark and dingy haunt. The pool table was on the other side of the pub, barrels used as tables and there was was a passageway behind the bar. Do you still doubt my knowledge of the venue Senor Afroman ?
Still a becks fan - 11 Jun 2003 13:55 |
I think you'll find (if you know your history Mr.Beck's) that that particular bran was never served in that establishment. However I do bemoan the tragic decision to withdraw the Red Stripe Tap as I'm half Jamaican Mun.
