George and Dragon, Rough Closeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I revisted the George & Dragon, as it had new management.
I went on a Friday night, and they were offering 2 x steaks for 10.00. We paid extra for the home made sauces. The food was excellent, and the service was very good. I was so impressed that I took my parents for Sunday lunch. Again I could not fault the food or service. The food is not over priced, and very good value. You can tell that the sauces are home made, and their delicious chips. I have booked to go again tonight and I am taking my family that have come over from Australia. I am very pleased that the new management team have improved the food and service as the expereince we had before was awful, and it put us off going again

I couldnt agree more with the negative ratings. The pub had slipped from where it once was in the positive feedback stakes. However just to keep you informed the pub has changed hands again. this time however im sure you will see a marked change in the venue. Owned and operated by a local award winning pub & restaurant company, lets see the George & Dragon back proudly where it used to be the HUB of Rough Close & beyond

Excellent gluten free menu in the restaurant - we ate here twice while on holiday nearby and found it very agreeable.

I took the family to the George & Dragon for Easter Sunday lunch,we received a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We had a excellent home cooked meal with deserts and drinks, the bill came to less than 54 which for 3 adult and 4 children I thought was very reasonable. This was my third visit too the George and certainly won't be my last.I cannot understend the comments made by the earlier poster as the food and service were excellent the beer was good and the place was spotless

Used to use this pub all the time with large group of friends either dining inside in winter or using the then excellant beer garden in summer.
The pub went downhill after owners sold to small chain and managers didn't put much effort in so we all stopped going.
After hearing the George had changed hands again we tried it again and we were really disappointed, The pub was dirty, the beer garden was a mess with litter that was weeks old, the grass although recently cut in the centre was 2 foot high around the edges abd complete with nettles.
We were going to eat but decided to go somewhere cleaner.
A real shame for what was and could be again a great pub.

I am Jane, the licensee of the above pub, which I run with my husband Iain. We now have a wide range of gluten-free foods on our menu, including home-made cottage pie, fish pie, and even home-made syrup sponge! I have also made bread from Juvela, so we can offer that too. I have been in touch with the local coeliac society group, and they were delighted with the menu available. Obviously I cannot rate myself out of 10, but why not come along and put me to the test?
