Open yesterday, after lockdown - the only one in Reigate Town centre.
Screens, sanitisers etc.- everything being strictly adhered to.
The friendly staff welcomed back the regulars, whilst distancing.
Good pub, with excellent food and well kept beer - in town centre location.
Nice beergargen at the rear. Friendly and efficient staff.
Good local type pub - where I even met the dog mentioned in previous posts! Her name is Mia; owner, Alan. Nice beer garden, good food and beer - with friendly staff.
Friendly pub on the High Street, with great food and well kept beer.
I listened as hard as I could for a whimpering dog but there wasn't any.
Very nice beer garden at the back a nice suntrap. And the beer was good but careful on the stairs on the way out as if you spill some you might feel disappointed.
A small traditional pub with the bar located to the right of it's narrow long lounge. There is another room at the back of the lounge. there is a garden/patio at the rear of the pub. Although they had 4 hand pumps, there was only 3 beers on when I visited the pub - Sharps Doombar and Sea Fury and St Austell Tribute. All Cornish beers! It is reasonably comfortable and very friendly.
Agree, well managed pub.
Sadly a very loud bloke comes in - after we leave work (sometimes, with a whimpering dog) and tries to takes over.
Food is the best in Reigate, and the ale is close!
Good pub, with excellent food and entertainment. Friendly staff and a beer garden suntrap.
Open yesterday - and looks good. However, it has the same square footage as before. Menu looks good, and the new management seem keen and enthusiastic.
Opening this coming Friday - March 4th.
Builders in - and first floor is being incorporated into the pub (I'm told).
Expected to reopen at the end of this month.
Excellent news for Reigate where pub quality and standards are not good. Only marginally better than awful Redhill, where Wetherspoons sell most of the beer. Could they come to Reigate?
Set to reopen again soon - and will be showing the 6 Nations Rugby. Local couple of experienced publicans, who will concentrate on food.
Although small, the pub has great potential due to its excellent High Street location, affluent Surrey locality and nice beer garden. Good luck to them!
CLOSED - again...
Put simply...a pub on Reigate High Street should not be this bad....
Awful, dead and hygiene free.
Owen - the new governor has had a personality bypass.
Open Again - new management.
Stop press. Believed to be reopening tonight.
Seems highly unlikely that the Bulls Head will open in time for Christmas and the New Year. A great pity - badly missed in the Reigate festive period.
This pub remains closed - and one wonders whether it will reopen for Christmas.
Arriving in Reigate 30 mins early last night, for a meal at a place across the street, I thought I'd nip into the Bull's Head for a swift pint beforehand, as I remembered dropping in before a similar works 'do' about three years ago.
The lights were on (both inside and out) and the outer door was fastened open; it was just after 7pm on a Saturday evening.
The moment I stepped through the door, a scruffy-looking lad of about 25, sitting on a bar stool, mumbled: 'Closed, mate'. An unhappy-looking woman sitting at a table behind him was the only other person in the place.
No apology, no explanation and it was just after 7pm on a Saturday night.
I made my way to the Red Cross across the road, which was a little busier and darker than I'd care for (I was trying to read the final chapter of a book), but at least I found friendly service and a small table there.
On my way back from the Red Cross, I saw that the Bull's Head's door was now closed and its windows were drawn, so why had they opened up in the first place? (I wonder if these are the same people who run The Tower in Redhill? They seem to have the same ideas about sensible opening hours.)
I shan't bother trying the Bull's Head again, which is a shame, because it could be a decent pub, with the addition of a little customer service. I'm giving it a rating of 2 instead of 0 based only on my previous visit in 2012.
Closed.
Great pub, with good food and beer. Quite a few 'regular/bores' were barred recently (and can be seen in local hostelries) - and this has improved the atmosphere dramatically.
here's a little chap called Charlie who drinks here - and loves to hear himself heard. Report this for removal croydonpeer He probably has something relevant to say unlike you.
There's a little chap called Charlie who drinks here - and loves to hear himself heard.
Expensive, cramped and bad attitude from staff.
Ladies toilet you have to clamber past a table and gents smells horrendous.
Some good live music is the only silver lining.
Popped in on Sunday for a quick pint and a sandwich, the Aspels was good and a lot cheaper than the Creche sorry Market Stores down the road.
Good honest pub.
Ryogasan not sure you were even in the right pub.
The Bulls Head is a decent pub serving good beer and some decent cheap food.
Now for tim-dims and tory-boys, says the last poster but one. And for those fashionable/wine bar types who like paying over £5 a pint!
Rubbish. This is a just a normal/nice local boozer with good beer, excellent food - and a lovely beer garden which has fine BBQ's in the summer.
Local celebrities Tony Tobin and Alfie Moon are quiet regulars. Not sure about Kate Moss!
Ryog - over £10 for two pints?!
I don't think so......
We had a brief visit one Thursday night, after wanting to move on from the over-crowded Blue Anchor down the road (which is a fair place itself, and has also had a make over from the old man rustic feel to the more contemporary style too), and to try to find a seat! The Bull's Head is quite different after the make over, if you've been there years ago in the old days. Although this is reflected in their prices - my friend wasn't happy (it was his round) when he handed over the tenner, and the bar staff still wanted more for 2 simple draught pints. On the plus side, perhaps the pricing kept the place quiet so lots of seats available. I think in some ways it's lost some of the old character charm from before, but if you're the fashionable, wine bar, or Tim-nice-but-dim type you'll be content here. (There was a tourette's tory-boy with a kate moss-alike as the only other customers at the time).
That Chas bloke seems to have moved on - and the pub now sells Peroni on draught. Good little boozer, probably the best in town - although there is a clique aspect to the place.
Looking at the previous comments I can count myself lucky I visited this pub at a quiet time. Then it is quite delightful, a small front bar facing the high street, oozing with history (the pub has been around since 1628), big fireplace with a fire blazing, nice cosy seating. Sometimes you have to look beyond the current incumbents and feel the history of a place. Had a pint of Young's Gold, which isnt my favourite beer but was very well kept.
Was in tonight; that kid Chas just took over - a mouthy/unbright bore. One wonders why this building site labourer is allowed such latitude. This pub has a lot of potential.
Yeah....Fox is right. This Chas chap is a bore. He comes in from a building site and takes over. Loudmouth is accurate. His sister is the landlady.
Very quite tonight - not even mouthy people.
A lazy, mouthy, loud young man works here - not too bright; shouts to his mates a lot; ignores customers; think his name is Chas (?)
Pity, a good pub otherwise - with great pub food and pleasant regulars. No parking.
Now the best Reigate pub. After staffing improvements and the getting rid of some boring 'regulars' - some with dogs!
Really nice pub, even nicer after the latest facelift!
That on-line juke box plays 7 million songs! (And fox referred to a 'scam'...not a scam.)
Visited on a Sunday evening, the makeover works quite well and is an improvement on what went before.
Didn't check out the jukebox myself but the selection that was playing was pretty good.
The bloke with the dog was there and didn't cause any issues from where I was sitting. As for Sussexfox claim about the scam, how can it possibly be a scam if someone chooses to buy someone a beer?
Was in here recently on the way from Gatwick. Good pub/excellent food, except for a shouter with an alsation. Maybe same bloke mentioned already - or is the place a venue for loud dog owners?
I saw that Alan/dog bloke in here. Loud, attention seeking individual - with a classic old/simple 'scam' -
'Converstion is generated when someone talks to his nice dog - in this small pub. The dog owner (Alan) says 'I've had her since she was a puppy'
His hope is to inspire coversation from fellow dog lovers - who after some more dog conversations, might just say...
Would you like a drink?
Mission achieved............again
Tradervic, No you were there tho', give me a dog anytime!
A mistake letting an alcoholic bore (who THINKS he's popular!) take over a fine refurbished pub in the middle of a class Surrey town. I was in there during the week where Alan + dog often are the meeters and greeters! Only 53, Alan might get a job - and not sponge off Reigate publicans and women with places where he could live........
Great lunch here today. No dogs.
This guy Alan is becoming such a bore at various local pubs. An unwashed, unemployed, uneducated fool who has a dog. Don't know how he is allowed anywhere ; he ruins a good after work drink....
Yes, some customers are unacceptable - maybe pikeys. Alan (the dog) is allowed to take over, shouting and foulmouthing. Pity, after a nice refurb.
What a waste of money - refurb looks good but shame they couldn't do the same with the staff and regulars. Rubbish beer and pikey punters.
Now open again - after a very tasteful refurbishment.
Yes, re-opening on Monday, February 20th - looks very nice from the outside. New photo required!
Closed on Monday, 6th Feb: re-opening on 20th (?).
Major refurb in the next few weeks.
May be for a short time only - but currently has 2 meals for 5!
Cod, pies etc. On Reigate's High Street.
Good quality and portions. Better than Harvester.........
What a fab pub! Good food, good beer, live music - punk band called Slider.
Crowded, but very friendly. i had a great night. Best pub in Reigate?
England v Georgia/World Cup Rugby - with breakfast - at 7am on Sunday! Great pub, well run, good beer and food.
Open for rugby (World Cup - England y Argentina, in New Zealand) and breakfast on Saturday morning; I know of no other pub doing this, in the area. Well done!
best pub food value in the area
good quality, variety and portion sizes
5 for two (no, I only eat there!)
Good High Street pub with fine food and beer. Friendly staff and locals.
was visiting friends and popped into a few haunts, what has happened to this place, thought the admiral and red coss bad, this one takes the biscuit, stank of greasy food, no service, gents probably never seen a whiff of bleach, get me back to guildford,
I know of no other way!
The whole place is too clicky these days. It would be much better is the landlady wasn't swigging vodka half the time.
Cleanliness isn't great either, always stinks of chips.
Walk with your feet is my advice............................
The couple of blokes mentioned by kevmac were on their way to another local establishment to watch the Sky lunchtime football - which is not shown in the Bulls Head and which has a hard working landlady (only). The place is a nice/busy and cosy town centre pub where food and beer quality is excellent.
Visited for the first time in a long while at just after 12 on a Saturday lunch time to be greeted by two extremely drunk young males at the bar downing shots at this early hour. Not a good sign.
I "tolerated" their extremely loud obnoixious behaviour for all of 20 minutes, before deciding that enough is enough, esspecially as one of the gentlemen appeared to be someone in charge, landlord possibly of the pub.
Well congratulations sir, you managed to lose two paying customers who were going to order food and spend quite a few hours putting good money over the bar. Something looking at the level of punters in your pub you need desperately.
A big pity this as I liked this pub and have posted supportingly on this site before. Sadly after this performance it will be a long time before I return. My trade will go to the Bell or the Prince of Wales in future.
Good High Street location with well kept beer and lager. Food is good value and ample - and staff and customers are friendly.
Small selection of Real Ale's and quite keenly priced.
Top class BBQ - with DJ - in the beer garden yesterday. It was even attended by rival/local publicans who could do with some ideas; summer is short chaps!
Not a bad little place, if a bit 'local'. No objection to going in here, but would not seek it out particularly.
4_ale - 19 Jul 2010 17:44 |
But then again, it is rare that 'Stu' ain't here - working one side of the bar or the other!
One must wonder why....
Best pub in Reigate to watch the World Cup; three screens and food as - well as good beer.
New 52inch TV being installed for the world vup and 2 extra TVs also being installed. Landlady is putting 110% into this pub and everyones custom is greatly appreciated.
SmartYin are you sure you didn't use a different Bulls Head??
Drank in the pub on Friday 4th (afternoon) with approx 30 people most of whom were eating as well.
No problem whatsoever getting served. As for being lazy and disinterested, not in the slightest.
Lazy & disinterested staff. Don't bother trying to drink here if there are more than half a dozen people in the bar.
Saw Kerry Katona in this pub today. Init.
The effort being put in here is commendable. Over the weekend, the new young landlady had BBQ's which were high quality and well attended; this lady also does most of the cooking. Beer and food standards are high but staff seem to be a problem; although they are friendly and reasonably efficient - there is no continuity and sometimes a shortage. Now is the time to attract (permanently) customers from the nearby/currently closed/troubled Blue Anchor and Red Cross. The level of effort is shown to an extent by the BBQ's; the Bulls Head's beer garden is not nearly the best in Reigate - but it was the only one in town with a BBQ during a predicted heatwave weekend.
Open again...
Closed again!
Its open this morning! What is happening in/to this place?
Closed again today!
Bulls Head is back open for business again.
Good pub that was badly missed, probably the best pub in town along with the Bell.
Welcome back.
Was open again yesterday....
Remains closed. Applications on the way in for all required licenses ....health & safety, fire, beer & wine etc. etc. It will be a long and expensive saga.......reason, crass stupidity.
Not surprised its closed with these idiots popping in there... Shame as they have ruined a great pub... Probably hacked off the management so much they closed this great pub down.
thank you tempest. your post of 25 january proved very accurate. my understanding is that this pub is really managed from essex and it seems that this 'hands off' method has failed badly and standards had dropped significantly.
customers and barmaids' boyfriends had appeared to run the place and there is every chance now that the Bulls Head will join its larger and nearest neighbours (Red Cross and Blue Anchor) in receivership/administration - with yet another management company.
Due to the 'laps' of the pub's license, a notice outside says that the Bulls Head was closed by the police yesterday and I was in there when they arrived! For this to happen, management standards must be very high!! Assuming that there are no objections - by the police or other parties - it will take some time for this pub to open again as the licensing process (from scratch) can be lenghty and costly.
....closed
Well, well, well if it isnt the fox stirring up trouble. Is fox hunting really banned? Anyway this is a great pub when i visited.
The 'Painter' lives upstairs.
Would love to walk into this reasonable pub - and NOT see Steve Mad-Painter.
The new steak nights (Tuesdays and Thursdays) are good value; my steak was top class as was bitter quality. A nice cosy pub, with a local clique (as mentioned previously) who think they own the place.
I haven't been in this pub for a while as I was never too keen on the atmosphere, however I came into pub yesterday and had a really nice lunch off of the specials board, with what I would class as a good cheap pint of beer, atmosphere seems to have become a whole lot more welcoming and I will definitely be coming again.
Going through a bad patch after losing manager. Used to watch football here. They don't seem to show it anymore.
After the recent sudden departure of the manageress, the Bulls Head is being run by barmaids and their mates! Standards have dropped due to the clear lack of experience and it seems unlikely that the current situation can continue for long. The barstaff are very keen to converse with a clique of mates at the end of the bar, instead of running the place in a business-like fashion; however, this is probably beyond them. New management is urgently required.
Great little pub very sorry to see Berney to leave good to see the pub still being run in a very good way happy staff great food and still good beer hope the new manager will keep up the good work she is doing any chance of you phone number
The ex-landlady, Bernie! Why did she leave - a lot of rumours going around!? And the pub must be stuck if barmaids (and their boy friends) are running the place; lock-ins abound!!!!
Bernie - the Irish landlady - has moved on and a new manager is being sought.
pub itself is nice. cheap beer(not the best tasting beer tho). but evrything is spoilt by the rude irish landlady. no people skills, sense of humour and generally rude. apart from that. nice pub
Small with cliques (Steve Mad-Painter et al). Friendly enough with good food and beer; news travels fast here. Partly because of a lack of any real competition on this side of town, the Bull Head fills a gap - adequately.
A homely, traditional style pub with straightforward bar food at reasonable prices. 3 cask ales too. It's the only pub I've been to in the area but would go in again if I'm ever in Reigate again.
alexw - 16 Sep 2009 00:07 |
This is a small pleasant pub which seems to be frequented by chaps who run their 'businesses' from it; they run in and out on their mobile phones and often have laptops taking up valuable counter space. Otherwise, the beer, service and hospitality is good - although some of the regulars (hiya Steve & Stuart) have had highly sucessful personality bypasses.
This is a great little pub, don't know who they are referring to as a rude irish woman, she's great you obviously don't get her irish sense of humour. Long live the Bulls!
JET60 - 12 Aug 2009 06:53 |
what a dump horrible irish woman behind the bar blondie from the cross now doing the cooking.beer not to clever.pay more for better pint.
Great pub and the Kroney is 45p a pint cheaper than most of its rivals
Great proper boozer, can get a bit lively on weekend nights, but maintains a friendly vibe, service is OK.
Went here yesterday with some work chums and had the pasty, chips and beans. One of the best pub meals I have ever had - and all for 2.50. My mate had the quiche which was equally good. Would have stayed longer but then realised the importance of the work I was doing and had to head back.
10 out of 10.
Cosiest pub in Reigate, with good atmosphere and food. A plasma screen shows the footie and the pub has an active and long standing Golf Society which seems to go abroad every year.
Beer is excellent and the staff, friendly - overall, a very pleasant spot to while away an hour or three.
The two young barmaids have improved - as has the pub overall. My only gripe now is the smokers who often block the entrance/exit from the High Street; they have to be dodged on the way in and out and should in the adjacent alleyway.
David Gregg's posting to this site, of 16 July 2002 - remains a classic. Ms Mullen, you are bringing back his high standards and, simultaneously, showing up the low ones - of some nearby competitors. See how many have tried to copy your 2 meals deal !
Dear Sir, In regards to your comments about my pub The Bulls Head Reigate. I'm so pleased to read your comments, as regards to my staff, they are two young ladies who havnt had much pub experiance, but they are doing there best, they are very friendly and my customers really like them. hopefully in the near future, they will improve. as regards too you statment to giving one months for the land lady/lord I.E to leave i AM here to stay. i was here 6 1/2 years ago, doing relife work for Mr David Gregg. Who works for the same company as i do, i have been with the company for ten years and i am now a director, so there for i have my soul heart in brining up this pub to the standards as Mr David Gregg. Hopefully you will find this to your standards and will call and visit us at any time. look forward to your comments, thanking you Berney Mullen.
Recently, the Bulls Head has started doing 2 meals for a 5 - and good quality. As a result, the nearest pubs (Blue Anchor and Red Cross) have become even quieter - if thats possible !
The new manager (Bernie, I think) is putting in the effort - with food, sport and all; she's even doing Christmas Day lunch. As a result, the place is busier; however, the bar staff (a couple of pleasant young/inexperienced girls) needs needs strengthening - as people are now having to wait at the bar. A gem compared to the nearby Cross and Anchor.
Has the BH changed hands again !! Was in last night - new staff and management.
Management has changed again! Food seems to have improved and beer good and not gone up Hoorah!
New management...again ! Bets are on that new ones won't make a month. Doubt it - but who cares, 'cept about 7.5 regs.
Friendly locals pub, wide range of clientele, good food and beer. Don't dismiss it as an old man's pub. We like it!
2.90 for apint of Kroney is the cheapest by far in Reigate. Great since the smoking ban and the maager and his Mrs even though northerners are very friendly, unless it has changed again in the last fortnight
Numerous recent management changes - the last, a couple of weeks ago. Since Dave Clegg (previous manager) left, the pub has been strugling on ALL fronts - notwithstanding the cosy atmosphere and good High Street location. It has become a regulars' club; always the same faces, incuding that of Alan Minter.
A pub that still looks like a pub. Small but nice range of bitters (Youngs, Greene King IPA, Fullers London Pride) and fairly typical range of lagers such as Stella and Carling, etc, Lively Seemingly friendly atmosphere with fairly wide age range even on a Friday night. Putting this high on my "reserve pubs" list for when I'm not at my usual haunt...
I agree that relatively, this is a reasonable offering by current Reigate standards. But somehow, despite numerous changes of licensee over the last decade, the Bull has struggled to overcome averageness. It serves okay ales (Young's Ordinary, GK IPA and Fuller's London Pride - acceptable but ubiquitous), and seems to serve a broad crowd of young and old, rich and poor. One can't deny it has a lively atmosphere. So good on you folks, but aside from the 17th century charm of the exterior, what have you got that sets you apart? Must try harder!
Gods smokey waiting room, strange mob but they seem to like it.
One of Reigate's better offerings, perfect for a cosy retreat from the shops on a bitterly cold day. A bit more imagination on the beer front (ie chuck out GK IPA) and we'd be getting into the 'not worth a detour but stop by if you're passing' zone
One of the oldest and best pubs in Reigate. Dating back to the Domesday book as does the yeoman of the bar Mr David Cregg. Dave is a huge Forest fan and can tell tales about the glory days under Cloughie.
Theres a chap called "Ping" who looks like Ernie Els dad and boasts of beating the great Eric Bristow over 5 legs up in Battersea.
Alan Minter the former pugilist is a regular here as is WIWO aka Dave Stone.
Like it here. Not bad for a mid-week drink. Me and a friend got particularly plastered by mistake here... holds some good memories.
Don't think this pub is worth bothering with if you're a young person, though they do seem to be fairly welcoming unlike certain watering holes in Guildford
Not sure that youngish people who are not regulars are especially welcome
Stella now 2.80 still a good pub
Top pub with good beer and friendly staff, even if Simon is a geordie. Apart from The White Hart, which is a younger persons pub, and it's special offers, The Bulls Head is the cheapest in the town centre. Great garden in the summer and good food too. Oh Dave arrows is an odd game
Great cosy, slightly grubby in the right places (gives character!) pub. Many original features. Always good beer at very good prices (Stella still 2.50 a pint). Nice to sit out in the garden behind and Dave's a nice guy!
On the few occasions I have been here I have found the place pleasant. Sat in the beer garden on my 18th b'day pub crawl

******AN APOLOGY******
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to take this opportunity to voice my concern at the comments raised upon this website. Now that I am fully aware of the level of feeling concerning the dartboard I can only sincerely apologise for any hurt caused. My customers are of prime importance to me especially the ladies (Hello My Lovelies). Anyone wishing to play the odd game of arrows will be allowed to play at all times (Minter permitting). There is a free drink in it for anybody who can tell me the whereabouts of the one they call "La renard argente". There is also a month of free booze for anyone who can successfully capture and bring to me the silver fox. I refute wholwheartedly however that I harbour illegal immigrants in my loft. That is b011*cks - they are in the cellar.
Newly refurbished for the World Cup. Why not try the infamous "hour of power"!!
Landlord is a nice guy, as said before. i like the house vodka....
anonymous - 17 May 2002 21:10 |
Its awesome, darts most nights. Landlord Dave's a good egg. Good beer pretty cheap. Comfy.
