Recently sold, refurbished and reopened. Now owned by Stonegate, who I had not heard of before. Was getting rather run down and shabby, but now much improved. Nice selection of beer. I had the house badged from Hunters. Crackshot I think. Still quite food centred, but enough space for those just wanting a pint.

Truly terrible experience. Booked a table to eat there. Ordered food all at same time and it with a delay of 1 hour for the arrival of the first main meal to the arrival of the last main meal, all ordered the same time. Burger had to be sent back as it was burnt, lasange boiling hot at one end and cold in the middle. FIsh cake was so salty as to be inedible and chips were cold cardboard. Children's chicken and pea noodles were too peppery to eat. The only redeeming feature was the staff were friendly.

A pleasant interior to this place a bit like a posher wetherspoons. Food is good value for money and ales not bad to i'd give it 8/10

a year on from previous review and can still say this is the best pub in exmouth town centre, the pint of proper job was spot on and the two meals for under seven squid were good albeit a tad small, but no you cannot fault this smith and Jones oh sorry "party in the pub"(naff new name of chain)pub,8/10

i enjoy my vist to the clipper early evening the drink prices was very reasonable. the pub was quite busy but soon got served.the food prices look cheap but did not eat
one thing i liked about this pub their was a family area at the back of the pub and being single i had a quiet drink at the front of this large pub

Popped in a couple of week's back and quaffed a very well kept pint of Wychwood "Dirty Tackle". Service was fantastic as always and the pub was not suprisingly very busy, still Exmouth's best pub without a doubt, 9/10

The Clipper, The Assembly, Certainly Smith & Jones put JDW to shame with good pub management teams! :) 8/10

glad to see that ian is finally getting rid of the foody element in the pub ! they just get in the way of ale drinkers ..... 10 out of 10 !
hail the ale !

Came to Exmuff with the intention of doing a few pubs but came here, enjoyed the hospitality and the Tribute and stayed until the last possible train back. Now in the safe hands of Ian and Ian who made a great job of the Assembly in Bedminster Bristol, the foody, coffee and children history of this pub still remains, but drink is becoming the way forward. Roll on the summer and this place will surely reach its potential.

Had lunch here recently. Good selection on the menu. We had the Tappas type sharing bit. Well cooked and tasty. The tribute was fine and I like the option of sitting on the sofas. The only thing that detracted a little for me. Was that it is almost impossible to avoid the large T.V. screens. O.K. if some sport on. But I can't understand why anyone thinks it is needed just to show a loop of adverts and E! "news".
Friendly staff and apparently this was the day fo the Baby club. But they were all delightful and well behaved.

Been open 4 a couple of years now, and very nice the Clipper is too. Quite modern looking with a nice long bar area. In general the staff are friendly and the food menu is reasonable and quite extensive. Not a bad selection of beer featuring several lagers including Staropramen, and 3 cornish real ales. It's nice 2 still see a modern chain other than JDW still serving a nice pint of Tribute or any ale as it happens.
Nice little beer garden at rear. Not too chavvy but can get busy on a saturday nite.
My Rating 8/10

Nice, almost trendy feeling pub for exmouth. Food is okay and there really aren't many chavs go here. Might be a few more during the summer but that is the whole of exmouth. Good place mid week and busy on Fri , Sat nights.

The pub has three hand pulled beers , tribute, tinners and directors. Serves food up to 9 pm. the tv screens are split between sky and the music system, if the music doesnt have a video it will show in-house advertisements untill the next track ! no nautical theme ...just called 'the clipper' great service and standards...

Chaaaaav-tastic!! Really really jolly lady searving at the bar (dark hair, bespectacled), looks like she really loves her job....or perhaps she just really hates chavs.
|
Yeah, its ok. Typical modern pub/eatery combination (soul removed a few years ago probably), so forget hand-pulled real ales, and yes, its a bit chav-central, but if you needed a bite in the evening before moving on, you could do far worse.
|
If you like to be blinded by bright lights and bling from the chavs in no atmosphere this is the pub for you.

New to the area, this Smith and Jones pub fills a gap in the town. The building has decades of history as a drinking establishment (formerly Lennards Bar and Molloys)The exterior is based on a nautical theme, the interior is right up to date. (the tv's showing constant advertising are a pain) Not much for the ale drinker here but a good selection of drinks and food. The place transforms from beer or coffee during the day to a nice little eatery in the evening.. then ... te seating area lights dim and it urns into a kind of disco bar! ... not too sure about that bit!!! All in all a very good combination for all tastes
