user reviews of the Hole in the Wall, Hull

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This place used to be an amusement arcade, so it's a bit shoplike. There are quite a few lowlifes around in this part of Hull and at times this place gets it's fair share. The beer has always been good when I've been in but getting served can be difficult as all the regulars lean on the bar so you can't get to it. I'm not sure why I like this place, but I do. There's always a friendly welcome when I call in on the way to/from Pave.

Came in out of the fog yesterday. Pool room out back and reasonable room in a slighyly shabby front bar. On the board they had Summer Lightning, Tetley, Roosters Yankee and Old Mill Mild but only the last two were on.

Handy for a pint on the way from the ground to the station but nothing special.

The place itself is a bit grotty, could do with a good refurbishment. The beer however is very well kept and their regular Roosters Yankee is excellent.
As someone else commented, very much a local's local but still a welcoming feel and some real 'local characters' to observe whilst enjoying your pint!

This is in the Good Beer Guide for 2008, but after visiting I'm not sure why. It's an average pub that had three ales on (although there were more taps) and basic decor. Loses a mark for having the football on far too loudly; I don't object to pubs that show sport, but you shouldn't be able to hear the TV from one room in the next one when you're after a quiet drink.

Decent enough friendly local pub. Reasonable selection of well kept beers. Worth a quick visit if passing by, but the pubs on both Anlaby Rd and Beverley Rd are much more interesting.

Plain two-roomer with wood floor, button-backed settles and comfy sofas. The real ales are notably weel kept.

Really enjoyed this - very friendly atmosphere and Wold Top beer was good. Nothing much to say about the building, probably good place to watch football

A long, narrow shop conversion with a comfortable front bar, and pool in the rear.

About 5 beers available, I enjoyed Old Mill Mild and Archer's One-Eyed Snake, both well kept. Although very much a local's local, everyone is welcome, and several groups seemed to "crawl" in and out during my visit of 12/02/05.

The music is at a comfortable level allowing conversation, and the buzz of both intermingle quite harmoniously among the down-to-earth clientele. A good pub.
