Went for the first time this week. A really excellent curry for under a tenner. Friendly atmosphere and good service. we'll be back!

Why are all the pubs in Yately highly rated - False ratings!
copperkettle - 25 Aug 2011 22:03
Best Pub in Yately, but that doen't mean I would go back there when there are so many better ones elsewhere in Hampshire.
Star_fish - 3 Jul 2011 14:28
of all the pubs in Yateley this was the best, but I don't think it's worth a rating of 8, more a good 6.5, beer good but food was average
littlecon - 27 May 2011 10:05
This is the best pub in Yateley, Clean, Tidy, Smart, and decent raenge of ales on offer. Freindly staff and a decent Garden area. The Garden is nicely seperated into Smoking and Non-Smoking area. which is good especailly if you want to sit outside in the sunshine and not get covered in cigerette smoke!

Is on the LocAle scheme by CARMA for promoteing local real ales such as Hogs Back, Andwells, Ascot, Tripple FFF, and Windsor & Eton.
neil19 - 16 Nov 2010 12:21
nice pub, friendly staff and lovely food, shame about not be able to smoke outside in the nice beer garden !!! you cant smoke out the front, you have a really horrible dark smoking area which is seperate from the beer garden at the back, makes smokers look like leppars !!! so if its a sunny day and you want to smoke in the beer garden dont go to this pub, go to the white lion or the anchor they have smoking anywhere in the gardens.
Apart from that the pub is great. nice decor and clean and friendly.
julypooly - 14 Jul 2010 12:05
Visited for the first time midweek early afternoon. Its a modern style foody estate pub. Quite large inside, the eating areas are nicely seperated from the drinking areas,so you dont feel your having a pint in a resturant. I was hoping for a more adventurous ale selection, the three advertised were fortyniner, spitfire and directors although the spitfire appeared to be off. I had the directors which was ok but i have had better. Much more impressive was the price at 2.90 , indeed all three were under 3.00. A smart very clean pub but really my kind of place but worth a passing pint, although i would probably keep going and have a pint in a traditional boozer, the Anchor just up the road.

Revisited the pub after six months and found that things seemed to have slipped a little - or perhaps we were just unlucky! Staff were as friendly and welcoming as ever but it took three attempts to get our drinks served (we had ordered from the restaurant table). Food was OK, but we were left with the impression that prices were higher (in total we paid around 60 for our two meals with wine).

We'll probably go back again as I'm sure the lapse in service was just a one-off.
welwyntone - 7 Jun 2010 21:03
A decent pub, now my local, offering decent and regularly changeing real ales. Starting the week of 14th December 09, every second sunday theirs a quiz nite in the evenings, during the day their is live music 4-7 each week!

An excallant pub!
haleale - 14 Dec 2009 16:02
Had a very pleasant Sunday lunch here with my wife. Food was excellent and the availability of reasonably priced real ales was an added bonus. Staff are attentive and we will certainly be going back.

With the reports of pubs around the country closing, it is heartening to see an establishment thriving. Their 'secret' seems to be to offer good food and drink at sensible prices in a friendly atmosphere - maybe other pubs should take note!
welwyntone - 13 Dec 2009 21:43
Very good!
RosieStewart - 24 Nov 2009 21:04
At momonet their are some great real ales - Hogs Back Hop Garden Gold, Resloute by Andwell, and Couerage Directores - 2 a pint speical during November. In recent weeks theirs been - Hogs Back TEA, Andwells Ruddy Darter and Gold Muggler, Courage Director and Best, Ringwood Fortyninner, Theakstons XB and a few others.

Looking forward to December to see what christmas beers they will have on maybe Batemans Rosey Nosey with the Flashing Pump Clip or Santa's Wobble by Hogs Back or Rolpahs Reveange, or Ascot Ales Winter Reserave maybe?

I think this is an excallant pub, Great Real Ales which are well kept. Excallant Food, Large Plasama TV, shame theirs no Sky, but cant complain!
The 3 Real Ales ales that are on offer, 2 should be kept to local brewieres which are Hogs Back, Ascot, Andwells, Crondell, Farnham, Weylands, and Surrey Hills Only and the third should be for other ales, people like a sense of local community pride. Good to see Badgers Brewery real ales here like Golden Glory and Blandford fly.

As its a freehouse, the first one in Yateley for Years, with the range of decent real ales on offer im getting quite excited about what Real Ales they could have on offer, the pub is open to ideas on whats popular for ales etc. Say Fullers Vinatege 2009 ale for December (bottled or Draught) Would be great! but everyone is different for chocie of ales!!

This a great pub all round, Large Car Park, Good Real Ales, Prices is average, Great Food, Good Atmosphere, Maybe have Sky Sports on the one telly but cant complain! With the choice of Ales its just nice to see a freehouse is Yateley!!!! JUST their is so much choice of real ales to have to offer the Yateley Public! GO NUTS LOL!
daveccc - 21 Nov 2009 19:22
Properly if not the best pub in Yateley! Safe for a group of girls to go to! My boyfreind will be happy with the decent range of real ales here! Good prices and excallant food! As i like spirts and wine, theirs a great selection avaialbe for me, Really enjoyable! Large Plama TV, went in on Firework night, over looking the school! Great view, busy and popular! Like it a lot, first visit for me, didnt know it had changed pubs, will be back sometime soon!!! I rate it highly and will be bringing my freinds along with me again!!
roise129 - 9 Nov 2009 17:16
In recent weeks, since the pub has opened their has been some decent real ales avaivable. Their has been Andwells Ruddy Darter, Gold Muggler, Courage Best, Theakstons XB, Ringwood Forty Ninner - Currently their is Hogs Back TEA, Delchuers and Tripple FFF Altons Pride, plus Gold Muggler is that popular its a perminate bottled fixture now, also newcastle brown is avaialbe also. This freehouse has now been open around a month now and is proveing popular and succesful! Long may this contiue!! Its a great asset to Yateley! A Real decent pub and well thought out! Check out their web site!
barry1 - 9 Nov 2009 17:02
A really great pub! Well turned around. Nicely decorated now a days. Good crowd and an excellant atmosphere! Short walk from waitrose, and the bus stop their. The pub is split into a restaurtant and a bar area. Three Real Ales inculdes a Guest Ale. Enjoyied Ruddy Darter and Gold Muggler. Read on the Board that Altons Pride is on Soon! A great beer from Tripple FFF. 2 a pint for Courage Best during November! If you havent been to this pub yet to do reccommed you go their! Is proving very popular with locals and real ale drinkers. When this was Monteagale/Poets owned by Greene King it wasnt that great but now its a freehouse, brought out and is excallantly run! 10/10 for over all of the pub, 10/10 for food and 9/10 for Real Ales! If 1 was perminate with 2 Guest that would be great 1 local brewery per weeks and the other changed weekly with breweries from around the country that would be excallant! But at moment the selection of Real Ales are good!!!!
neilthomas999 - 7 Nov 2009 11:55
I must say what a huge difference this pub is! When i was a greene king dive it was really bad, but it the tide has turned!! A Freehouse and 3 different regularly changeing guest ales! Good staff, great prices, and a decent atmosphere!

Would like to see Hogs Back or Ascot Ales as a perminate real ale on offer here!! But otherwise a tip-top pub!
localnews88 - 3 Nov 2009 10:04
This is an excallant pub, which has brought more class and taste to Yateley. Food and Drinks are excallant. Real Ales are served well and in top form! Would like to see more varitey of Real Ales, preferrable more local real ales. But cant complain as this is a really decent local pub, Modern, but tradtional, Clean, Tidy, Well Kept, Smart, Split into two halfs Restaurtant and Bar Area, Freindly Staff, Good Atmosphere. Easy Asscess, Large Car Park, Disablead, Access, Large Beer Garden, Dart Board, Large Flat Screen TV in the Corner! A super pub all round! Bring Back Ruddy Darter Should be a Perminate Ale!!!!! I hear Courage Best is going to be 2 a pint during November! I will most likely if not denfiently coming back for more and will be bringing a few freinds along with me!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
P.S - I agree with the Steps on the Grass verge for people who live and walk from the Waitrose side of the Pub, the path is a bit daft, and cars fly round that corner at times! Crossing over then back again!!!
cargale - 28 Oct 2009 13:27
It's about time! At last, after years of waiting we have a decent pub & restaurant on our doorsteps. I've visited the Highwayman twice since it opened, and have been very pleased on both occasions. The inside decor has been very well chosen and designed, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and the meals were served without delay and were delicious and good value too! I intend working my way through the menu and am pretty sure I won't be disappointed. I'll be back! Just two small points, it would be quite useful if some steps could be put into the grassy bank when approaching the Highwayman on foot from the Waitrose side as otherwise the footpath finishes and you have to cross the road and then cross back again to go in the main entrance, and could dimmer switches be fitted into the dining areas as it was quite bright. Thank you!
yateleygirl - 27 Oct 2009 11:04
The Ruddy Darter is a Ruddy good Beer will be back for more!
haleale - 24 Oct 2009 11:17
Also you can gat to it by Bus, theirs a bus stop by Waitrose which is a short walk, about 2 minutes from the pub, Number 3 and 79 from Camberley/Aldershot and Farnham Stop their! Disalead access and families welcome! A very freindly pub!!
olly98 - 23 Oct 2009 21:05
This is a very stylish pub indeed! With a mature crowd and more into their Real Ales. Three Real Ales on Offer - Courage Best, Theakstons and Guest Ale. Recently theirs been Ringwood Fortyninner and Andwells Ruddy Darter. Bottled as are Andwells Gold Muggler and Newcastle Brown.
For Cider Drinkers theirs Magners and Bulmers to found, for others their plenty of Fine Wines and Sprits for Choice. Spilt into a Bar Area and Restaurant Area.

Large Car Park and Large Beer Garden Can be found, Also theirs a Dart Board, Bar Snacks and Wheel Chair Access. Proveing to be VERY POPULAR!!!
A Freehouse. with new owners, new staff, everything about is a massive imrpovment on the pub before!. Dose get very busy in the Evenings!

Leather Sofas, Comfortable Seats, 10/10! Really is a Decent pub! Well Worth a Visit! Tankards to be Found!

daveccc - 30 Sep 2009 19:10
This pub is due to open, hopefully i hear by the end of September 2009 as the Highwayman! Its now a freehouse with decent mangement team, i hear! As soon as its open a full report will be given in/of Real Ales etc! A lot of work has been carried out over the last few months to improve in its name/reputation and appereance! Appartently theirs a change in opening hours, staff, appereance, menu and drinks. At preasant theirs a name change, a new beer garden, car park, planting and a few more bits and peices! Its going to be intreasting to see what its going to be like when its open!!!
neil19 - 15 Sep 2009 17:45
When is it going to open?
daveccc - 10 Sep 2009 15:02
Looks like a lot of work has taken place recently, the pub has been shut since January/February (09) and lots to be re-opening at sum point during September 09. Its not a greene king pub anymore, its now a free house which is good news! At this end of Yateley this just this pub and one other! Hopefully, this should be a success! looks like a huge turn around!
Now re-named "The Highwayman"

I really hope they do at least 3 different real ales, one perminant and 2 Guests, and do ales that are not what other pubs have like london pride or ipa, as its a freehouse i hope they expand on the ale list and go for something that other pubs dont have, their a choice 2,500 real ales. Have local ales to the pub, with 10 miles of the pub theirs Hogs Back Brewery Tongham, Ascot Ales Brewery Camberley, Andwel Brewery Hook, Crondell Brewery Crondell/Farnham, even further a feild theirs Surrey Hills in Shere near Woking, Weylands in Addlestone Near Cherstey, Zero-Degrees in Reading. so plenty of Local Breweries for choice! Please new owners, if you read this around the time of Opening the pub, Please be a free for a choice of ales, and make sure you dont have the same ales all the other pubs are doing! The sign says your stocking fine wines, get Denbies Wines from Dorking in Surrey!!
barry1 - 10 Sep 2009 14:58

Needs a Good push new owners & landlords to be honest!

Greene King IPA & Abbotts avaialbe also Old Speckled Hen
haleale - 3 Dec 2008 09:42
Come on Greene King you need a kick up the bum with this one!
bigscott12 - 31 Jan 2008 11:04
This pub just needs a push in the right directions with a manager that can stay for a while! The brewery (greene king) should keep hold of a manger/landlord for more than six months! has so much to offer and could be so good! its not a bad pub or anything wrong with it just needs a push in the right dircetion and a bit more moviation!
haleale - 12 Dec 2007 17:12
