Worth a visit off the A14. Excellent ploughman's with Suffolk beef. Friendly welcoming staff.

Fair enough if you're passing by and several friends said it performed well when a group of them turned up after a wake. My own experience tallies with JonRambo, a bit drear and forgetable, needing to be taken in hand although the beer quality was decent (if the variety was ordinary)

4 ales on: I had the Nethergate Growler which was in OK conditions, and local to Suffolk. Other 3 were more common: Bass or Spitfire or the like. Called in here on a weekday lunch time. Few locals proping up the bar but otherwise quiet. Bar maid friendly enough. Bit gloomy inside. Wood burning fire that had just about gone out. Banner draped over the outside of the window prevented any sort of a view. Could be a lot better with a small amount of TLC and attention. I didn't go into the lounge side of the pub...maybe this is where they have the food, and it could be more cosy there? On the basis of having 4 handpumps this is an OK option if you're passing by but not worth a detour.

My sort of pub - old and unpretentious, beamed, open fire, good ale and wholesome, reasonably priced food quick, friendly service. Try the beef sandwich on wholemeal. If I am anywhere near Exning at noon I'm in there!

The pub is reasonable enough and the beer (Woodforde's Wherry) drinkable enough but the staff behind the bar do seem to have an attitude problem concerning people who aren't locals. Carry on reading your magazine as opposed to tend to the customer, take the piss out of them while still in earshot... and wonder why your pub is empty on a Saturday afternoon and the Swan isn't.

Our family have been here 6 or 7 times for Sunday lunch and occasionally in the evening and have never been disappointed. Our toddler is always made to feel special and not ignored like in some pub/restaurants. A really friendly welcome and good traditional food.

mixed opinion on this one. We attended a Birthday bash here a few weeks ago. Food was very good, beer was better than average. So far so good, but what really let this pub down was one of the bar staff (the rest, including the landlord seemed fine). The barmaid (blonde chavette) obviously had customer service as the very last thing on her mind. Three times I stood at the bar waiting to be served while she chatted to her mates/ ate crisps/generally took up space, and all three times she did not listen to my order and got the drinks wrong. Rude and unhelpful, - a shame as otherwise the I would have given a much higher mark.

Went there at lunchtime - beer and food were fine, and the landlord very welcoming. However we had the misfortune to be served both food and the second round of drinks by the landlady for whom everything appears to be too much trouble. We won't being going back (unless I here they have divorced)

As a 'filthy local' I am pleased to know anonymous 17 june is unlikely to return to the White Horse. The poor quality of the grammar, punctutation and spelling contained in this review are a guide to the inaccuracy of the comments relating to this great little pub. Fine beer, great food, good company and welcoming landlord. dallas

Yes this pub could do with a face lift, it is in need of it. But the amount of traffic through the doors these days it must be hard for the staff to keep on top. From what i understand this pub is about to be re vamped, once july 1st comes in. Lets hope for Karen and Johns sake the locals respect their efforts and look after this now very busy little pub. The White Horse has once again become the pub Johns dad once had. buzzing and fun to be in.

My partner and I visited this pub for an evening meal although the meal wasn't to bad...(get what you pay for) the pub and it's locals were filthy, the mens toilet at its best is a health hazard. i can say now that this pub is off our list!

All types catered for here with an old fashioned drinking bar one side and lounge bar with dining area the other (although it can be difficult getting served in the lounge bar as the bar staff tend to deal with the main bar first). Quality of the food and its presentation is very good. Well kept beers with some interesting guest beers Although the building is in need of some TLC, overall the ever present and welcoming landlord has made this into an ideal local and is well woth the visit.

after driving around newmarket we came across the white horse by accident. we were looking for an evening meal and we got a lot more, a pub packed to the seems of all sorts of people. I don't know how this small pub manages to keep up with all these people. The food was great, and arrived quickly which we didn't expect due to the amount of people eating. Well done keep up the good work.
