At the time i was registered as disabled and whilst on crutches was asked to move from the glass collecting area although there was at least 5-10 people within the area. I was not asked nicely though, i had 2 door staff to come to me and ask me to move. I had not caused any disturbance and still find it very strange. Previously i have tried to pass through the pub to the car park at the rear but have been stopped by the door staff. I shall be making serious complaints about the pub and the staff that they employ

Its not just the lady bouncer thats rude all the bouncers at this pub think they are god or at least gods gift. One in particular with a big belly thinks he is the bees knees. He chats all the young girls up and someone should really tell him "you're too old mate". Bar staff make up for the terrible door staff though they are good, all in all a good evening apart from the getting in if you can get in and make sure you don't do ANYTHING to draw the attention of the bouncers or you will be out - unless you are a young girl in a short skirt that is.

Hmmmm, somehow me thinks the last poster works for the chain....
Rarely visit the place, but a couple of my friends work behind the bar and I'm only ever served by them so can't really comment on other staff.
One lady 'bouncer' is a little rude and a bit of a jobsworth. You're a bouncer dear, not Margaret Thatcher.

wow what a fantastic weekend in the bulls head. the dj is a legend and the staff are fantastic. it seems that most of you are wrong in your comments that this pub is bad. it is a real credit to the chain and will remain so for a long time to come im sure. marie is a real credit to the pub and works very hard to keep everything in order. the door staff are trully the best i have ever seen with there whole approch to the genral public being totaly proffesional at all times (which cant be easy with some of the 2 headed people walking round ashby. a real fantasic place we love the dj what a god xxxxxx

the staff are quite bad here. i used to go in a lot on sundays, some time in 2004 summertime. there were 2 nice girls who worked there then, one had dark curly hair and the other was tall, blonde and quite thin (and quite hot but she didn't smile that much)who were both really nice and friendly but don't know their names!

it must be bad if you guys want to bring andy back :) i miss the firkin *cries* but now i is in wolves and everything in cheaper so i can live.

I agree with all the comments listed on this site. The land lady who's name seem's to be Marie has always been unhelpful everytime i have been in. I would say that 25% of the bar staff are any good and the 75% are useless. There is a young guy who works behind the bar who tends to love himself and to be honest i think he is a prize prat with poor service and when the going gets tough he crumbles like a house a cards so some words of advice sunshine, "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"

This pub is now totally shocking and an embarressment to the chain. Since the new landlady started this pub has gone rock bottom.
Some factors you will enjoy if you visit;
Food never arrives on time and customers are left waiting 20-30mins for food even when they are the only ones eating. If people complain they are rudely fobbed off.
Tables are not quickly cleaned up.
Staff regularly tell customers to f**k off and drink elsewhere if customers enquire why they haven't been servered in order oir have been waiting longer than others.
Customers are regualarly ignored for service while staff chat to each other.
Staff/Management eat 'OUTSIDE' food and drink on the premises inside the pub infront of paying customers.
The manager has been seen smoking at the bar and also with a cap on which are both 'no' policies within the pub, when questioned by a customer her responce was 'I'm the manager i can do what i want!.
Pub NEVER opens on time and customers are made to feel unwelcome rather than treated with respect.
Come closing time you are told to leave right away - little/no LEGAL drinking uptime seems to exist - if you complained you get banned!!
ANY questions to the manager now result in a rude and childish answer and MORE OFTEN i have witnessed people getting barred for no reason at all. The manager seems to enjoy banning people she just doesn't like for no reason. If people have a geniune reason to be banned (i.e. bad behaviour) it seems if she fancies you she'll turn a blind eye (This has happened i've heard when people have climed on the property roof and even after someone HIT a member of staff!). Genuine people have been banned for complaning about flat warm beer - it's a joke!
I am appaled that this pub is allowed to run as it is - the pub itself isn't so much an unwelcoming place but the current tennent have caused this pub slide to what only can be described as a wart on the pub chains CV.
I avoid this pub and i'm not the only one - shame as the previous manager had this pub up as one of the best in the area.

This once was a great pub, but that all changed when Andy left. He left some big shoes to fill and sadly Marie doesn't even come close, in fact i wonder how she ever got to be manager she is rude takes no notice when you register a complaint and must get a kick out of banning people from the pub.
Let's start the "BRING BACK ANDY" campaign and get this pub how it used to be and together we can end Marie's reign of terror.

This was a great pub when Andy used to run it, then as soon as that new bird Marie took over it went down hill! All my mates now avoid the pub due to her attitude towards us all. Its a shame because it really used to be a good boozer and ive spent many a happy time in there.........So come on Ashby lets get together and get Marie the sack and get Andy Back!

hehe, im still banned after 2 years for allegedly 'snorting coke off the tables' despite having a serious allergy against all opiates. If I did do that I would more than likely have died so thats total rubbish, i am still alive and still banned. No great loss really from what I can read on here!!! Zeus is far better, fact!

I like this pub in the week, but it lets itself down on weekends. Glad to see the bouncers have cheered up a bit since 2004, but the bar staff are still as miserable. Having got past the bouncers, been served a time or two and actually enjoying ourselves, some snotty bar person(female) approached a group of us asking the girls of the group for ID, loved the look on her face when she had to walk off -- trying to show us up, only to look a bigger fool. I don't mind being ID'd, but please, be friendly.

I like the Bull, i go there regually but it must be said that the staff are shocking. i apprieciate that they work very hard but there is no need for the attitude. i know for a fact that they have lost business from many of my friends for being too cliquey. i vouch also for the last orders incidents. many times last orders have been called and 5 mins later with a drink still in your hand they boot you out, with an attitude about them as if you have been causing trouble. its ridiculous, maybe someone should tell them that the law allows 20mins drinking up time. if they want to go home earlier then call last orders earlier. but if i was running the show id have sacked half the staff anyway.

Like Keith, myself and my boyfriend had considered the Bull our local for 5 years and found it a great place to have a drink and a laugh, until the current manager banned us. A group of lads had tried to start a fight with my boyfriend for no reason and the bouncers threw us out, apparently because we were smaller and less intimidating than the other guys who were drunk and violent. We appealed to the manager and she was totally unhelpful and rude, telling us that we were never to go back again. The staff are definitely ruining what was once a great pub.

After drinking in the Bulls head for 10 years without getting banned once, I have now found myself refused service by the new manager (dont know what she is called) for absolultely no reason. She refuses to speak to me and thus i am unable to find out why I am banned! Perhaps its the only way she can get herself noticed by people? Was a great pub but im not sure now!

Rachel is quite the professional. The Bulls Head lost a gem when she decided it was time to move on. I hope people get facts straight. Slander is illegal!

dear Amy.I am sorry you were so rudly treated in that night.Rachel had left in september 2003 so i am wondering who this was if you would like to talk to the manager Marie she would be more than please to sort this out i am sure

it is a mighty fine pub and although it is not what i would consider to be my local i would say it is one of my favourites. however in recent months they have aquired some very bad bar staff. One in particular booted me out with so much as a "please" at 11.10pm and i still had a drink and a game on the machine to go. i wasnt drunk or rude. she unplugged the game machine and told us to leave or we'd be barred. her name is rachel austin. lets get her fired.

A top place to either start the night befor going clubbing, end the night after a few drinks or better still waste the day away with offers such as buy one get one free in the day and the 99p Monday it would be rude to miss it!

I have a few mixed feelings about this pub. I have been going there for about 3 or 4 years when it was known as The Firkin. I used to prefere it then when it was more 'pubby' with a collection of games and a jukebox! It is now alot more trendier and at the weekends tends to be the first stop for many before hitting the clubs. Still a great place to go - especially outside at the back in the summer months.
Some of the bar staff can sometimes be abit rude and at closing time (even during the week) without warning it's lights out, "go away".
Prices are about average for the town, but there are some nice deals on some week nights like 99p drinks.
Music at the weekend is abit too cheesy/poppy for my liking, but not as bad as the local night club (Artys)
Usually there's a good atmosphere about with the regulars and you're sure to meet an interesting person or two.

This is my most favourite pub! If I don't spend at least 3 days there a week I get withdrawal syptoms. Make life-long friends at the pub!
