Grape vine........heard that is was closing down, will confirm later this month.

Update on The Drayman: It is now advertising itself as an Over 21s bar. Also, live music is a seemingly a regularly occurrence. Bizarrely, the cockney duo, Chas and Dave performed here a couple of months back.
My low rating still stands.

Its a strange pub as it has the potential to be really good. The garden is great at the front with ample seating and a flat screen TV and although i didnt try the bbq, it looked quite good. It looks like it should be in Ibiza of similar.
Pretty dead on a friday though. Not too sure that the 2 pool tables are a good idea though. If it was a closed off part of the pub then maybe but not in the open.
Still, got a free shot on my way in.

Sort of given up on Bexleyheath, the Drayman think they are the big players on the scene promoting PA and guest dj's. They could't run a bath - they charge on the door or should I say on the beer garden door - good plan as it misleading cause the beer garden is busy full on smokers but the bar empty - Jumped up venue and my boyfriend said the toilet smelt of Piss. Avoid if you have half a brain cell over 25 my arse.

Terrible, over priced, rude staff, had two leather jackeds stolen from the cloak room and offered no compensation. Upon speak to the owners told to 'get fu*&ked and tough luck'. I think they are wanabe gansters but one thing I am sure of its a shamble and owners are useless. Enter here at your peril, avoid tolets also as there tend to be a lot of 'sniffing'coming from the cubicals and that really is not my thing.

Spacious, freindly bar staff, Ben Sherman fashion show, large smokers area, older clients, near to fast food. Not too bad .

The Drayman in Bexleyheath, a bar that I have never even contemplated a visit to over the past few years, finally got my attention last night (18th Oct) and I can report that whilst here isnt quite truly awful, Ill gladly never visit again. Ill start with a positive however and that comes in the form of the patio leading into the venue. Large, covered, heated and a plasma screen makes it probably the most smoker-friendly establishment Ive been to since the ban. Right, that over with, its now time to get down to the grizzly business of the negatives! First up, Guinness. Dont drink it. I was informed the at the reason for it being off was because no one drinks it. Bloody hell! My lager afterwards was better, but still flat. Prices were cheap though. The interior and dcor is modern. Red and black leather sofas, nice tables and scented candles are the order of the day whilst the big projection screen shows the latest dance music videos. I imagine the volume level rises as the evening progresses, but I found it to be torturous enough at 7pm. The toilets were clean though. Shall I give here and extra point for that? Nah. To be honest, if youre youngish (over 25s remember!), with your mates etc, youll have a laugh regardless of everything against it. I do bare things like that in mind. As for me though, hell will have to freeze over before I set foot in The Drayman again.

Got there quite early and only stayed for a while as i had to go somewhere else. Seemed ok, bit empty but it was early. BBQ outside looked interesting.
Some typical Bexleyheath clientele though, balding fat blokes wearing a variety of ben sherman shirts!

Obviously you can tell that people havent been there in the last 6 months, it is a nice establishment - the owners actually talk to you and make you feel welcome, part of a mixed group of people both male and female all welcome all the time. Service poor - my ass! - on first name terms with some of the barmen - BERT is a champion - always running around.
If you go there enough, then they appreciate the regulars, and we appreciate the pub, a classy place with a relaxed feel, an outside area that is perfectly clean and serves a BBQ at reasonable prices - dont be so quick to rubbish a place, before you visit it a few time.

Its not a bad place really. Bit unfair to give it such a low score. Some complete 'gansta wanabee'tossers in there but hey, its Bexleyheath so you have to put up with that wherever you go

I work elsewhere but i love the drayman. funky house all night and top notch dj's. The only downside is that my flatmates come home from there every week absolutely lashed!!!

When are you all going to wake up (Affinty/Ohm/Zerobar/Drayman) - none of you are Jesus and you can't divide the bread in thousands. There are only so many people going out in Bexleyheath and none of you offer anything original - so people go where it busy or where there is atmosphere! Stop bitching and concern yourselves with your customers !

Aimed high but have fallen well short - all the things it was to cater for - Over 25 etc.... Rubbish - full of 21's - and people who think they are above the rest of us.
One day somebody will say over 25's and stick to it, bring back Fogg's Cafe Bar.

This place is pretty bad, unless you want a drink and you're under age. There is no way on this side of god's earth it's over 25s! There were loads of girls looking about 18, some even 16 an dnursing their one drink all night. Apparently the owner when opening this wanted a slightly older, classier crowd - that went a bit t&ts up didn't it?! The music is ok for Bexleyheath but this will never be even a slightly classy place as a)it's in Bexleyheath and b) the average age is about 20 at a push. There is nowhere for people 25+ to go. What annoys me is that there are plenty of terrible bars the young uns can go to, but nothing for 25+. Also, why only have girls serving behind the bar? They always serve the blokes first and be prepared for a long wait for a drink as the service is p&ss poor. If you're thinking of a nice slightly older and classier crowd, then for a drink go to Bar Lorca, don't even contemplate here. Otherwise, go closer in to London ie Blackheath/Greenwich, or London itself. Its just not worth it at this dive!!

The Drayman seems great at first. I have been going there for a few weeks and it initially seemed good. After a few visits though, you realise its actually quite sub standard. Same people, same music, same attitude. And its actually really expensive for Bexleyheath, considering the service is also pretty bad. Its a beautiful bar without any heart, something is missing. It held my attention for a short time but i'm afraid i will be going back to my old favorite haunts.

Another name change! I havent been to the place since it was the Polo Bar years ago(where i witnessed some bloke beat up a girl - lovely)
Still, the bouncers gave him a shoeing so thats alright.
As for the new Drayman - Its.. ok. Bouncers think that they are the best thing ever (no suprise) and failing and everyone seems to spend most of the time pouting and posing rather than trying to mingle with each other.
Upstairs is very nice and good for chilling out.
Music downstairs is very good and was more than someone playing "Now thats what i call the same old crap volume 187" (are you watching affinity!!??)
In fact, from what i saw, the DJ was actually mixing!! Shocking!
I just get the feeling that in the summer it will be full of waynes wearing pastel Ben Sherman shirts, chino shorts and slip on shoes.
I hope not though

went to this put last friday, as a friend asked me to join them, on entery i found the doorman unintressted, inside the pub was dull and did not hold much atmasfear, the bar staff were fairly good, but that makes no difference if the custom are idiots. there was a lot of testostrone around, and defantly did not feel comfortable being there, in the end we left early, i belive it was the music that finerly done it. what a load of rubbish. think i was better of down the road. lol

Used to be a really good place to catch up with friends and dance to good music. I haven't been for a few months but was unlucky enough to go last Saturday. I found the doormen to be sleazy and crude and the clientel to be aggressive, especially the girls! To end a night of bad music and ten deep queues for the ladies room, my friend and I had our bags stolen. AVOID AT ALL COST!
|
WELL I HAVE TO SAY WE WENT ON FRIDAY AND HAD A GREAT TIME, GOOD MUSIC, THE FELLAS AND THE GIRL ON THE DOOR WERE A GOOD LAUGH AND PROFESSIONAL AND POLITE, IT WAS GOOD NOT TO SEE KIDS EVERYWHERE AND AT ONE STAGE WE THOUGHT IT WAS NON SMOKING AS IT WASNT SMOKY AT ALL WHICH IS GREAT :) THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS COULD YOU VET THE FELLAS ON THE DOORS A BIT MORE AS THERE WASNT MUCH EYE CANDY IN THERE :) BUT WE HAD A GREAT NIGHT AND THE PLACE LOOKS FANTASTIC, WELL DONE
|
i went last friday with the girls an dto be honest - we left cos i was afraid my mum and dad was about to walk in! I couldnt quite work out what the Drayman was trying to be. Obviously people that new the Drayman the first time - all those years back - are back to relive their youth. Sorry Drayman - i thought it was shite.

The Drayman is officially open!! I went to the opening night and not a youngtser in sight. It was very classey and very busy. No trouble just people having a laugh and a drink. You can definatley dance to the music, top DJ! If you went there before you wouldn't recognise the decor its fab!!!I would recommend this bar to anyone over 25!

I used to go in the early 80's it was a great meeting place. When it opens I hope it is for the older clientele. Thats what we need round Bexleyheath as it's full of youngsters!!!

The Drayman Is Back !!!
I am a friend of the person re-opening the drayman, and can tell you it will be stylish Over 25's with some top top dj's. It will work under him and has fantastic management. I don't want to give too much away as it will be good to see it for yourself. Watch this space !!!!!
Splatman - 20 Oct 2004 12:55 |
The Drayman wasn't a bad pub back in the late 80's & early 90's but ever since then its been a complete toilet attracting ASBO's, no-brainers and loverly laydeez with large earrings and lots of gold. Lets hope its turned back into a proper pub and they keep out the kids that can't hold there ale i.e. make it over 25's.
Tamba Tamba - 20 Oct 2004 11:58 |

The polo bar was great, unlike Bar Uno. Bar Uno has now shut down!!! Which is fantastic! It wont be missed. It went down hill when it was Bar Ice. The kinda people that use to go there where ones who just wanted a fight before they went home on a Saturday Night. Even when they where open,The Staff didnt look after the outside of the bar. The sign is held up with duck-tape!!!! Now that really screams class to me. If there gonna re-open they should have a classy bar and only be open to 25's and above!
The polo bar - 15 Aug 2004 06:55 |
never been the same since it was the drayman in the 80's
anon - 29 May 2004 20:34 |
I remember the polo bar days!!! ohh what happy times! Now they turn it into a place, that plays cr@p and attracts scum! Great night if you have an IQ of -500!!! Good point it keeps all the dummys in one place!!!
fancy a fight???!!! - 31 Oct 2003 11:21 |
i go to bar uno every thursday when it is a drum and bass night. although i am 19 years old i do not agree that it is full of kids because the bouncers on the door ask for id and therefore kids dont have id. fake id aint xepted coz my mate tried that and got knocked. the mc's that visit bar uno and perform live are excellent and bar uno have friendly staff and a great atmosphere. its a heavy night out and for three pound to get in u cant go wrong. u pay abput a score for a rave and u still get the same music, live MC's including Xman, Riddla,FUN,Fearless,Fat Man D and loads more who actually do turn up and put on a great show. theres only bin 2 fights in my knowing and i've been goin there every thursday since beginning of july. the bouncers dnt take nufin and they are there to sort it out. police are always outside which ensures ur safety.
bar uno is heavy!!!!!! - 29 Oct 2003 12:16 |
u missed out Polo Bar!
Me! - 16 Oct 2003 13:46 |
belive this juicer was the Jolly Drayman back in the day. The The Drayman, then Chequers, then something else, then bar ice noe Uno. I may have missed one out. The fact that it changes its name every three years should give you a clue as to the kind of place and custom its after
Alfie - 30 Jul 2003 16:42 |
I think you'll find that this pub has now turned into a classy wine bar with no under age drinkers
anonymous - 4 Apr 2003 09:04 |
Formally Bar Ice. Oh dear, oh dear... All the birds are jail bait most of the blokes are studying for their GCSE's apart for the 25 year olds who are actually looking for a 14 year old to take advantage of and bully the 16 year old lads to make themselves fell hard. This place should be avoided at all cost unless you are under age.
