Called in recently on a Sunday morning. Very good pint, very pleasant barman.

Stop thursday midday halfway alone a walk. Arrived very wet but everyone was very welcoming. Had the King John ale and very nice it was. Service was with a smile and quick. Bar snacks are a bit pricey (ham, 2 eggs and chips 12) but the location and atmosphere makes it worth it.

Planning to return in the evening for a restaurant meal and will report back.

Midweek day off work. Walking from Alton to Farnham. 1st stop at the Anchor. Only one in pub. Beautiful pint of Andwell's King John. And now onwards.

Thought it would be a good place for an 80th family birthday - wrong. Struggled to actually cut the Lamb with a knife & fork. One mouthful was enough. My son will eat anything - he also took one mouthful and gave up. It is a mark of a restaurant how they deal with something - this place simply ignored the fact. No 'what can we do to put it right ?' rather they chose to say and do nothing when advised of the situation. Some of the party enjoyed their meals but for me an expensive way to eat nothing !!

Dinner for four on a Friday just before Christmas. Lovely setting. Very welcoming. Staff working hard to serve full restaurant. Great food, good pint of Moon Dance, good service. Don't know how long since the refurb but wish we'd been back sooner. This could become a favourite haunt.

Wow. I mean wow! A gorgeous character pub. Such charm.
The staff are lovely and fabulously sensitive to your needs.
The beer is great and well- kept with a few marvellous 'non-standard' choices.
The food, albeit a bit pricey, is really very very good.
This place is a real treat.

I visit regularly as this is a lovely old pub with beams, and bags of atmosphere. The Ale is always interesting, regularly changing and well kept. Food is very good restaurant quality and adventurous. I do not recommend the Ploughmans as it is not what you would expect, (not enough cheeses and too many pickles/pickled eggs) and bits not normally associated with a simple ploughmans. Perhaps pickles should be optional. Family friendly generally, but would recommend families with young childre not use the small bar area at the end where drinkers just like to come in for a quiet drink. Large seating/restaurant area the otherend more suited for families. Finally, if you are over 5' 5" mind your head.

Went there last night with a group of friends and can't fault the place.

The food was delicious, the staff were helpful & attentive and the triple fff beer pale ale was well kept & just what you need on what seemed like a summers evening.

All in all excellent

After ordering a pint and a small glass of wine I thought they had also sold me shares in the pub after charging me over 9. This pub is smart, clean and seems well staffed but I feel sorry for the locals if they have to stump that up every round. Being part of a small chain I guess they rely more on the one-off visitors (usually well off families with loads of noisy kids) rather than good honest drinkers.

On the plus side they serve local ale (TrippleFFF).

May go back just for the stunning views out the back but I need to save up my pocket money first!

In my top 10 of pubs, great decor and ale, interesting pictures in mens loo - does anyone know the source. Beer prices ok, cant comment on food as i've not eaten there. This is how country pubs should be.

We have been to this pub a couple of times now and apart from some shot found in my mother's game (meaning it is fresh and sourced in the way it should be!!!) we have had very pleasant experiences. The beer, wine and food is very good and priced in line with the decor and ambience. An altogether lovely, traditional and cosy pub.

My wife and I had the pleasure of enjoying an evening here last night (25th April 09).
We had heard previously that the food was "very good but very expensive". Well, in summary, the food is excellent and the price was reasonable.
The evening started with a couple of drinks and a very friendly chat with the ?manager who kindly showed us around and brought us up to speed with the history of the building.
We then went in to the dining area and were treated to excellent service once more and absolutely delightful food that was crowned with a chat from the chef. All in all a fabulous evening. We will most definitely return.

Lovely decor, friendly but inexperienced staff, went for a meal with my husband and he had to send two plates of food back. The first course kidneys were raw in the middle and uncooked. The second course his fish was frozen in the middle!! Not so fresh ah! very over priced. Once home we were both very ill and certainly would not recommend this place to eat infact due to our vomiting we have had to contact enviromental health. We did complain and didnt pay for the food and the manager was very kind. But we think the whole dinning area could hear him shouting at the chef!!! we think there are some big problems here.

All fur coat and no knickers. Looks great, beautiful since refurb but prices higher than far superior places in central London. Once bitten, never again

Popped in on a Monday evening with the misses to check it out. Lovely looking place with a delicate ambience but the whole experience was not good. Our first waitress was lovely though inexperienced but the others were numpties - totally inattentive The place was quiet but we were left waiting too long for everything. Food was disappointing and ludicrously overpriced. We felt robbed.

High-quality refurbishment. This was my first visit since the re-opening, and it certainly delivered. Whetted the appetite with a pretty much faultless pint of Ringwood Forty-Niner, then on to a delicious baked brie starter. The steak three of us had was superb, with stunning, huge hand-cut chips la Heston. No pudding but Illy espresso to finish.
Staff were attentive and friendly, and service was pretty damn good too, despite being busy.
Despite many other reviews to the contrary, I thought the prices were very reasonable considering the quality of the food. In this area I suspect the pub will be a success anyway, as there's a lot of money kicking about. Two courses plus drinks was a shade over 30 a head, at lunchtime with a light drinks bill.
Almost too grand to be called a pub now, The Anchor is definitely worth a visit, but book in advance.

Top notch, ten out of ten, fantastic. Alas, completely let down by ridiculously expensive food prices.

Unlikely to visit again, which is sad as the venue and staff experience was good.

Quite simply the best pub I've been in. The food, service, atmosphere and location were all first class. Staff were attentive and friendly. No snobbery here just quality all the way.

Visited on Saturday night for a pre-dinner drink which is the second time I've been since the refurb. Had a really friendly atmosphere. Drinks and nibbles were good. Clearly aimed at the more affluent market but works well (car park was sporting a classic Alfa, Aston etc. plus the standard selection of BMW/Mercs/Audis/Muddy Land Rovers).
Food certainly smelt and looked good as it came past on trays but haven't eaten there.
They run their own sporting days. I'm not sure whether you can attend as a single gun but I'm sure they'd tell you.
We left saying that we'd definitely be back.

Great renovation to a lovely pub but unfortunately being paid for through laughably high food prices. The cheapest thing on a very short lunch menu when we visited was Toad in the Hole at &10.50. As this came with no potatoes or veg, adding these as side dishes raised the price to over 16! The Toad consisted of two extremely ordinary sausages in a little island of batter, hardly justifying the price. This is a place that can't decide whether it's a pub or a restaurant: the food is far too expensive for a pub and the dinner menu is far to short for a restaurant. If they halved their prices this would be a great place.

Had dinner and stayed over the other night. fairly expensive but really good food and place.

Ah this was a great pub! I came here in the early 1990s with my shire horse, and we won the Pet Duel competition 2 years in a row! Great memories! I still have the trophy and certificate! A wonderful public house, the old landlord Mr Roberts was a joyous host!
