I've been to the Tom O The Wood quite a few times now since it reopened and I have to say it is a fantastic country pub....great food, good ale, fantastic hosts (well done Chris & Charlotte) and great atmosphere. As if that's not enough the location by the canal is the perfect rural setting and it's dog friendly. My only gripe is it's not closer to where I live but I can't have everything.

i would like to say how wonderful tom o the wood and all its staff are. after there fabulous opening in early october we decided to move our wedding reception here. with only 6 weeks to plan it all, to say they did us proud would be an understatement. we had a fabulous wedding day, wonderfull weather, amazing buffet, gorgeous rooms all of which gave us more than the wedding of our dreams. family and friends are still commenting on such a fabulous place we had. cant wait for our next visit :)

Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch for seven including one junior, all food was served as requested, I am quite particular about the cooking of beef it was spot on! I have also used this establishment for weeknight meals and it has been excellent, I will return.

Stopped off for a drink during a canal walk. 'Bar area' has no stools, only luxurious sofas where, presumably, diners wait for their tables. These being full, we had to sit in the overspill restaurant at dining tables. Only handpumps were Greene King IPA and Old Rosie cider. My wife had a coffee - when I queried the bill the girl had to go to the till to find out the prices - coffee 1.90 a cup and weak as dishwater. No bar tariff or gravity of drinks displayed.
One to avoid.

Went today 08/01/12 for sunday lunch 1st restraint is in two parts one conservatory which is nice as long as u want to eat with dogs in the same room
The other room long and thin dark and deserted.
The place is big enough to keep the dogs in bar or outside but not in the restaurant
Well the menu was small so we all selected a duck pate which the girl who served us was described as a strong smooth pate. Well it came in a ramekin looking at it looked like should be more like a potted pate but this topping was white more like lard.
The taste was so bland and even I who never has to add salt or pepper to any thing had to. After a couple of spreads it was so bad I gave up.
The main course was a mess unless u want your dinner in a soup of gravy that had been standing under a heat lamp so the edges went crusty.
The only part of the meal was the vegetables and really good I think from a Jamie recipe.
We complained and said the starter what cost 6.00 was horrid but they would not reduce price.
So I warn all dont go there

This pub is nice and homely and there are good ales available. There are also presently various innovative attempts to encourage people to attend.
More negatively, we found the owner to be rude and unhelpful, unlike the bar staff who were pleasant.

Keeps a good pint, normally the local Putity range, and a guest (at the moment Hereford HPA) good atmosphere with a mixture of all characters, loads of events, excellent Sunday carvery.
Pleasant management and bar staff who know what there doing.
Dog and children friendly
A good stop off if your walking / boating the Grand Union canal

Visited this pub again and noticed that name has reverted to Tom o the Wood. Received a warm welcome and was shown to our table and ordered food. Last time we visited, were served the most wonderful homemade chips. Enquired and was told that they now serve frozen chips so decided on something else. Started with 1 pate and 1 sardines. Both were served with sliced bread, pate was acceptable but the sardines were inedible. They were described as sardines with rock salt, but the amount they used was far too much. It had a side salad and dressing so thought that would soften the salty flavour. Unfortunately that too was covered in salt, so I sent back the dish. For main course we had once chicken pie and rack of lamb. Both were disappointing. Chicken pie crust looked bland. It was served with mash and carrots. The carrots were a little too under-cooked and had so much sugar my partner could not eat them. My lamb looked nice, were served with roasted sweet potatoes, 2 wedges which were fine. The lamb was overcooked for my taste and the other accompaniment was minted peas, which were simply frozen peas. When the bill arrived my returned starter was listed. When queried it was removed. It was strange because the last time we ate there, the food was excellent but the restaurant was empty. This time the food was poor but the place was buzzing. Overall after such a warm welcome was very disappointed with the food.

Reopened before christmas. Has a fresh and welcoming feel. Good Beer and Pub food at sensible prices. Great for families, couples, diners and drinkers. Possibly not the best place to go on the pull! Highly recommended.

The pub re-opened on the 22nd November and the name has gone back to The Tom O'The Wood
|
closed at moment but re-opening under new management soon, have to try it out and see if it still looks and feels like a hospital waiting room

Had not been to this pub for a while and immediately we noticed that it had a much cleaner, fresher look. We browsed the menu and although it appears the prices are about normal pub prices the food was absolutely brilliant and value for money. The home-cooked chips are to die for and the service excellent. We could not believe however how quiet the pub was. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again very soon.

was run by someone who had ideas of introducing Lap dancing to the farmers. They have now gone and the rumours are its being done out as food + beer pub same as all the others around the area?
