Excellent, great value food, with one or two guest ales.

Good interior. Nice surroundings.

Has been under new management for a couple of years and the new landlord and landlady are friendly and all the bar staff are happy to help.

Highly recommended.

A large traditional and impressive looking place that sits next to the Shropshire Union Canal. It has a patio area and outside tables by the canal, where boats are often moored up. large car-park.

The interior is clean. Wood beams and partitions divide the food, dart and drinking areas. I have not eaten here. The notes about an unfriendly landlord i cant comment upon, all i can say is the lady behind the bar when i visited was very friendly.

The beer had the usual stuff, with Banks's MILD and bitter on handpull, as well as two ales; Marston's Taverner's Ale and Cocker Hoop, so all Banks's stuff. The MILD was pretty decent.

I will be returning, especially when i can sit outside when it isnt p***ing down, like it was today.

Entirely agree with the comments about the landlord. He was most put out when I insisted on having my pint from the handpump rather than the electric quick dispense one. Told me that it came out of the same barrel anyway so why was I bothered. We are vegetarian, which he also seemed to take as a personal insult if the very limited veggy choice is anything to go by. In all fairness though it must be said that he is far from being the only one guilty in this particular regard, many other pubs are just as culpable. The food, whenit did eventually turn up, was spectacular in its ordinariness, poorly cooked and showing all the signs of having been nuked in the microwave. In short avoid this pub at all costs, unless it is one minute to closing and you are desperate.

Food has awlays been good when I've been in there, and some of us don't like our beer covered in foam. I tend to avoid it in the summer when it can be very busy with boaters

Nice pub for a sunny sunday afternoon watching the boats on the canal. Beer is awful, food is terrible, seating layout inside is cramped, clientele always seem depressed. Get your (flat) beer and sit ouside.

Very Nice Place. Over 100 years old, alongside the Shropshire Union Canal in the village of Wheaton Aston in South Staffordshire. Outside tables overlooking the canal, interior presently one large room split into a smoking bit and (guess what?) a non-smoking bit, but about (May 2005) to undergo some building work to make it into two rooms, separating the smoking and non-smoking sections. Good range of good food (traditional English, curries, selection of fish dishes, veggie stuff, specials, bar snacks, kids' meals, light meals, OAP special deals) all day (price range 4-9 for a main course), up until about 9pm. HUGE portions (only have a starter if you've got a friend to help carry you out), friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. About 40 car park spaces. The only reason this place doesn't get 10/10 (I gave it a 9) is that it can be a bit stuffy in the summer (very thick walls and no air conditioning, but adding aircon would spoil the place in my humble opinion; it's an old pub, and hasn't changed a fat lot over the last 150ish years, retaining its comfortable traditional feel), but there's plenty of seating outside if it's too warm within! Sunday lunch carvery (huge portions again - fab value for money). TV, dartboard and fruit/quiz machines are all down one end of the place, so easy to avoid if you want to.

This is a lovely quiet country pub, situated overlooking the canal, in one of the midlands most beautiful country villages, Wheaton Aston. Everyone is really friendly. Tv and dartboard are freely available for use, and it is relatively cheap!
