First stop in Watford yesterday morning was the White Lion. I agree with the previous review. Although, the Woodforde's Wherry appeared to be on better form. There were also a couple of guest ales - Fuller's London Pride & Tring Moongazing. I had the latter, which was acceptable. The site of staff chopping up carrots and potatoes in the bar was a little strange. But, it was fairly friendly and we were offered some complimentary sandwiches. A reasonable option near Watford Junction station.

One of the few establishments in Watford that still seems like a pub - unfortunately the ale (Wherry) was dire.

Revisited last night and my favourable impressions were confirmed. Good pint of Wherry, a lively but good-natured karaoke and traditional if run-down public bar. Oh, and I quite fancy the barmaid. I still think it's the bet pub in Watford.

In my quest to visit every pub in Hertfordshire, the experience of "doing" Watford was at times dispiriting. Snarling bouncers, putrid bitter, brain-shattering music, and moronic drinkers. The White Lion was the last pub I visited and by chance I'd have to say this was probably the best drinker's pub in the town. Only a couple of real ales were on but the Woodforde Wherry was excellent, the barlady had a sense of humour, there was a nice local clientele, and the women's footy was on the telly at a discreet volume. Nice beer garden at the back, and plenty of cosy nooks and crannies. A bit away from the centre, but definitely worth a visit if you're a connoisseur of proper town pubs.

For some reason, the google maps link to this pub goes to Soissons in northern France.

Very traditional local with 3 ales including Black Sheep Bitter. Felt too 'local' to me but still worth a visit. If you want a mini ale route. Start as Cross/Nascot and come here before heading into town.

Emphasise previous comments - felt very much like a traditional local, and looks like some of the furniture etc has been there since the 70s.
Four ales on tap - toss up between the Woodforde Wherry and Marshmellow, and ended up going for the former, which was fine and around 3 for a pint.
One screen on showing football and a very random sing-a-long session going on in the corner.
A decent locals' pub which is so rare given its location close to the station and town centre.

Currently visiting a pub at every station on London Overground. Did this pub for Watford Junction. A very nice locals pub. Friendly staff and beer in good condition, if unspectacular choice. worth a visit if passing.

Pipes could do with a bit of a clean but this is one of the better pubs in Watford.

Nice traditional local. Had London Pride, Courage Best, Abbat Ale and the 'guest' was GK IPA when I visited. Ale probably not as good as in the nearby Southern Cross, but not bad.
Food served from a hatch in the left corner, fairly good, decent value.
Pool tables, friendly service, my only problem was that it was ver smokey ..... roll on the ban!

This is a great traditional pub. The decor might not have changed since 1975 but it's a friendly old fashioned boozer with decent staff and a good landlord. Surprisingly, there is also a lot of decent live music on a saturday night. The beers not top notch but it's better than most in Watford and it isn't too expensive. There's a fairly decent selection of Bitters.. Recommended.

If there's a pub in Watford with more Christmas decorations than the White Lion I am grateful for not having been subjected to it. Not a criticism, just an observation.

Welcoming staff, friendly atmosphere and good selection of ales. I walk past 4 pubs to get here and I consider it my 'local' (Verulam, Wishing Well, Dunnings and Champions)
