Revisited, now that the new licencees, Sue and Hazel (from the Hastings Arms in Hastings) have had some time to settle in, and my brother and I were undertaking a 25 mile walk, so needed a drink! Great stuff, the pub is now open from 12-11pm Wednesdays to Saturdays, and 12-10.30 (ish) Sundays to Tuesdays. Food is served 12-4 and 6-9pm every day. 4 ales now on, though there is room for expansion with another handpump already in situ, with Sharp's Doom Bar (4%) as a permanent ale, Harveys Sussex Best (4%) as a semi-permanent ale, Youngs Bitter (called "Ordinary" to someone like me brought up in Wandsworth) at 3.7%, soon to be replaced by Youngs Special (4.5%) though, and the 3.6% Otter Bitter that I drank, pretty good it was too, and needed! Cheers m'dears!

Been to the Smuggler again yesterday, still good food and ales, 3 ales regularly now, including London Pride and Sussex Best and a guest ale. Now the breakfasts from 09.30 are not provided, as there was insufficient interest from the public, sad, but still a great pub to use for lunch or evening meal, or as a stopover when walking. We were here at 11.00 and enjoyed a pint of Pride.

Cracking pub looking over the sea down at Pett Level. Sells up to 6 ales, I've had Fortyniner there before, but when my brother and I visited last Tuesday, they just had London Pride and Sussex Best on. Both in good condition. The food here is pretty good, and they start breakfast at 09.30 every day, and it is a very good breakfast!

Lovely pint of Harveys and served by a polite kindly lady. Saw the aforementioned fat bloke and he was hard at it at the carvery which looked very appetising.

Went here on 14th June with a group of about 12 for Sunday carvery (again), the "rotund" chap was there and serving the food and clearing the tables and working very hard indeed and had time to chat to nearly everyone, the first beer I had was London pride which didn't quite taste right but that may have been because it was the first off or because I had rather a lot of "Harvey's" the night before! The second pint I had was Harvey's and tasted much better. The carvery and food was excellent, I could not fault it and much better than the last time I came and equal to the previous time (see my past comments) I will go there again.

A year later, we came back. A bank holiday, and the place was deserted. Could it be the attitude of the rotund chap behind the bar? It's certainly put me off going back.

Popped in for a swift half whlst walking from Rye to Hastings. Had slighly more than just the half (hic!) As well as the ubiquitous Greene King IPA and London Pride they had Harveys (obligatory fo most Sussex pubs) and also the Dark Star mild. Very nice! Whilst our party didn't eat here, plenty of people were eating, and the food looked smashing. It's somewhere I intend to come back to. If only it wasn't so inaccessible unless someone drives....

Went back here last week almost a year since my last comment but have been inbetween, the pub was not so busy as last year, maybe because it is January and not February, but I was not so pleased with the carvery meal this time, the pork looked red which it should not the beef was also red which is ok. There was lamb in gravy which didn't look too good and I did not see any customer have it while I was there and there was steak and guiness pudding which would probably be fine and chicken. The vegetables were a very small choice of cabbage and carrotts and peas but nothing else, the roast spuds were fine. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the meal (I had beef) but did not think it was quite as good as before but it was the same price! The beer was excellent as usual.

Nice atmosphere, friendly service. A good pint of Harveys to be had here.

Had a great family Sunday carvery lunch here today and the place was really busy with many satisfied customers, I drank London Pride today and it was top quality. The meals were great and we all came away fully stuffed. Just one thought and that was the price of the carvery although 4 thick slices of pork in my case and my wife others had 2 slices of gammon and another had a large portion of home made pie, I know I can get cheaper. But agree that there were many cuts to chose from including, beef and chicken as well and all served with as many trimmings as you could take! A great fire gave the final cosy atmosphere a friendly glow.

I had a moderately poor sandwich, you really should try to use fresh bread.

Can someone give the old woman behind the bar a personality please? It was like being served by a plank of wood. Old pub with great potential, just not excercised very well. With it's location this place could be heaving given the right management, seemingly it 'tides' over (ha ha - the sea.) ok but with it's size, should be so much more.
Beer fair/moderate food don't bother.

Decent pub. 3 Ales; Pride, Harvey's Best and one other [which I forgotten the name of but was rather good].
Whilst pleasant enough, ambiance was somewhat spoilt by some awful dance music [3.30 on a Saturday afternoon!!!!].

Right on the beach. Lots of seating by the beach and in front of the pub. Harveys on tap. One of the best summer boozers if you like the coast. 4 houses down from that ponsey white block on channel 4's grand designs.
