Yes - now an Indian restaurant, although it does have a separate bar. But the service and beers are awful. To be avoided.

Now called The Royal Gurkha

Visited the Fox for the first time since October when just the bar was functioning. There's been yet another change to this pubs fortunes but this time for the better, in fact a whole lot better.
The bar area is much bigger, back to the sort of area it had five years ago. Although the decor is plain it does the business. A draught ale was on which tasted fine (couldn't see the name from where I was standing at the bar) but for good or ill they've left the pool table in one part of the room, no doubt inherited from the previous management.

The restaurant is back to it's former glory but with a Nepalese style to the food. The meals we had were excellent the quality of the meat and the flavours were as good as I remember they nused to be. The service was very prompt and friendly and we had quite a laugh and chat with the staff.

Well recommended to give this pub a visit more especially if you intend eating.

Very pleased to read the posting of 23rd December. Not having seen this,I called in briefly on December the 26th and spoke with the owner. Evidently a lot has been spent on the refurbishment, example, the car park now surfaced and marked out professionally, and the previous public bar now lighter and seems more spacious. I understand that the menu given to me is temporary and a new one will soon be in operation.
I gained the impression that this will again become an above average restaurant whilst having no direct connection with the previous owners.
Sadly I didn't realise they had Doom, otherwise would have tarried,to the annoyance of my passengers!
M. PS rating shown is at this stage based on instinct!

When under previous ownership I could not write anything positive as it fell well short on the basic requirements of a public house......you could not guarantee to be served draught beer. It is now open under new management and it has been transformed. There is no problem with the draught beer as they have a very good pint of Doom Bar or for you lager lovers...Amstel.

I would STRONGLY recommend that when paying a visit you sample the best Indian food in the area. Wednesday is Thali night which is good value at less than 10 a head. From the main menu we had the fish curry and Railway Lamb Curry and both were exquisite. This is a regular thing for us now.

I ate here about 6 times and was devastated to find it closed a few months ago. I am pleased it seems about to reopen, but will appreciate news from anyone visiting it ,especially whether it is under the same ownership/staff and particularly chef[s].
Its location lends itself to us as a venue as it is between our Essex home and our in laws near Guildford. M

Obviously my rating below refers to the food while still open before the refurbishment!

Went to an special 'Divali' night here on Sunday - Indian Buffet with Fireworks afterwards. Food was excellent although kitchen not fully functional yet - probably ready in a couple of weeks. Pub has now added 'Doom Bar' on Handpump which went down very well. Worth a visit if you're in the area - especially if you fancy a curry with your pint!

The bar is now open. At least it looks better than it did before the previous incarnation closed down but no draft beers on, just the usual lagers on tap. The bar is now completely separate from the yet to open restaurant section which will have it's own outside entrance. The polite bar person was a man of few words but did volunteer that the restaurant section would open "probably in about two weeks". Yes, well, we'll see.

but still not reopened.....

Looks almost ready to reopen. All repainted - similar to what it was, with a 'newly refurbished' sign outside.

Seems to be undergoing a refurbishment.

McDonalds seem to be in the frame. The small/brown/lady manager had several failed personality bypasses.

Closed and boarded up.

This pub has no beer! I have had to change my order from lager, to bitter, to cider, on more than one visit. In agreement with philhonley, I too was faced with a rather slow barman who stuggled to understand the concept of pulling a pint. Bar staff also push the bottles of Cobra because they buy it from the M&S across the road...

Not a bad place to stop on the way to Gatwick, but only if you are leaving the country as you will want to be as far away from this place as possible.

Although the food is excellent they have no right to class this as a drinking establishment.

Having visited once again in order to take advantage of the excellent Indian takeaway food I did carry the vaguest hope that things may have improved with regards the pub element of the business....................I was informed without any form of apology or embarrasment that there were no draught lagers available as they were still experiencing problems................hello how difficult can it be to provide draught lager in a public house.

This pub has been transformed a number of times. It has reverted back to a so called pub from Indian Restaurant with a bar. The bar staff are possibly the worst on the planet with no knowledge of running a drinking establishment between them. I have visited this pub on 3 occasions in the past two months and have had to wait at least 10 minutes to be served 2 pints of stella on all 3 occasions. This is not because it has been busy or the fact that the bar staff have failed to see me. On each occasion the bar staff have taken my order the minute I approach them. The problem is that once they have taken my order they are somewhat confused when it comes to servicing that order!

Avoid or order your drinks in advance! If you chose the latter I would suggest you are quick because this pub has no life expectancy.

It occurred to me once that of the owners were to knock down the Fox on the Hill they would have space for a larger carpark...

i didnt finish the rancid pint i'd been served, nor did i give them the opportunity to change it was so poor.

Met up with some friends on Friday evening for a meal and had a pint (Ansells) in the bar first. The cramped bar area has been extended since last visit a year ago, but only in order to house a pool table + teenage users. The food was still very good but whole pub/restaurant ambience continues on it's downhill path. Pity, as 3/4 years ago it's was a thriving venue. Unless new management take over, closure looms by the look of it.

This place has been 'dead in the water' for a couple of years at least - always looks closed, with few (if any) cars in the car park. Last time I went in to the poky rear bar, I was the only one there and the restaurant part was empty. Was served by a bored looking (and not very tall) managress who had obviouly lost interest. Used be good - await new owners, just like The Sportsman.

This is pub use to be great until it turnt into a curry house. its now completely ruined and i suggest you steer clear and head to the well house
andymurray - 22 May 2006 15:00
Whilst the name and exterior appearance may suggest that The Fox is a pub, it's really just a restaurant with a bar. Therefore expect no atmosphere, particularly at lunch time and in the afternoon, and be prepared for expensive drinks (e.g. 3.20 for a pint of Guinness).

At the time of writing there seems to be a policy of afternoon closing. And why not... I don't think anybody would notice.
