From unfriendly landlady to uncomforable astomphere glad we left and went next door

Paid a visit recently and I was pleased to see it was pretty much the same as when I drank here often in the early 1980's. Nice atmosphere of locals and strangers alike, decent (if limited) food menu and efficient and friendly service.

Totally different it seemed to me than the Bull next door, aiming for a different market.
A drinker's pub, as opposed to a food place and a more down to earth clientele, and a fairly decent pub (not particularly a Greene King fan but the beer; Old Speckled Hen and Ruddles was in good form).

Perhaps we were unlucky, but arriving at 12.00pm on a Saturday and waiting 40 minutes for a couple of baguettes seemed a bit rich to me!!

I'm not a Greene King fan but I have to say that this is a lovely pub. Frendly staff and local's, take time out to talk them and you'll leave knowing that you've made new friends. A definate benefit is that it's in a quite village and in the summer the gardens are beautiful. A Pink S/wich is highly recommended.

Good food, good company an enjoyable visit. Very welcoming. Large Garden to the rear including a large gravel pitch for garden bowls. Car park to the rear. Finalist in charity pub of the year.
