Was in here for the first time in years last month. A shadow of its former self, character-wise. Brightly lit - too bright - and sport on the tv constantly. Staff looked like they wished they were elsewhere. Had a couple of pints of something but was shocked at the price of a standard blend whisky. Don't think I'll be back.

Popped in mainly to ask for directions to Easter Road and catch the 2nd half of Arsenal v Man City. The barman was very friendly and gave me good directions to the stadium and the Deuchars was in excellent form.

Quite a large pub next door to Ladbrokes. Drank Deuchars IPA which was in fine form. Got chatting easily at the regulars at the bar.

Staying round the corner from here and just nipped in for a quick pint but they had two different football matches on which is always a touch, so stayed to watch them. Was relatively busy for a tuesday night although didnt hear many scottish accents so most people were probably up here for work. Had a burger and chips which was pretty good. Tennants was nice, under 3 which was a bonus and didnt feel like it was doing anything bad to my innards. Good boozer

Its a drinkers pub , mostly full of older guys watching the football or hitting the bookies next door .
Cheap and cheerful for the town at 2.50 a pint of tennants , staff more curt than courteous .

Ok bar as far as atmosphere but ale was not good. Limited selection of real ale and what was on (Deuchars IPA) wasn't that good. Not hurrying back.

Went in at about seven o'clock last Thursday evening. The Caledonian 80 was cheap (I think 2.20 or thereabouts) and well kept, but the lovely Victorian decor was all but obliterated by big screen TVs on every wall showing Celtic's Champions League game at considerable volume. The weather also meant that the digital signal was choppy, so it was definitely no place for a quiet pint and the paper. Maybe it was the time, and I will try it again, but the TVs seem to be a permanent fixture.

The 80/- is well kept and whilst 2.10 is a good price it can be had for 1.99 in the Rose Street Brewery. Anyway, not a bad place at all. Music was at a reasonable volume on my visit. Didn't try the food. Staff and punters seemed friendly enough

Good beer, good food, good prices, helpful staff. Music can be a bit too loud.

Had a good pint of 80/- in here, and at 2.10 its very cheap by central Edinburgh prices......Looks a hardened drinkers pub with limited seating.Probably a good place to catch a match on the box.
