Place to come if you are on the Top of the Royal Mile. Slightly hidden from view, appealing to a different type of pub goer.
Its tiny, so space is limited. The beers are great quality and value and they provide tasters if you need help selecting from unknown local brewers.
One of my favourites in a great city.

Small boozer just off the high street. Ales were well kept and seemed friendly enough. Worth a visit.

The Blue Blazer was my favourite pub from my first day of Edinburgh drinking. Ales were Loch Lomond Hop Trial, Knopa India Pale Ale & Cromarty Brewed Awakening. I tried the Brewed Awakening which was a really intense coffee stout - very nice indeed. For ciders, I only initially spotted Westons Rosies Pig. But then I noticed a blackboard with 3 more listed - Blaengawney Hallets Heart Breaker, Olivers Gold Rush & Hogans Hazy Daisy. Needless to say, I stayed for 2 more ciders before falling back up the stairs. This is a basement pub accessed from an alleyway. It has little natural light. It seemed popular with tourists. The only downside I could see was that locals didn't seem the most welcoming, or maybe they'd just had a bad day. I'll definitely pay this pub a visit next time I'm in Edinburgh. 8/10.

Friendly welcome from the lad behind the bar. Two stouts on - a bonus after a couple of weeks in Scotland and the plethora of pale hoppy beers and keg crap. There was also a cider fest on with a fave of mine on - Gwatkins Norman. Sadly I couldn't have any as I was on beer and don't like to mix. Bugger!
I first went in here many years ago and I remember it as being nice and dark with lots of little dingy corners. Sadly, it now seems to have been done up in a totally incongruous style trying to brighten it up a bit and losing that little charm.

iamspartacus says it all. Used to come here 20 years ago but all the life has gone out of it with the 'improvements'.

Very understated pub down an alleyway but it had a great atmosphere. Both times we visited were fairly busy but we didn't have long to wait to be served. Not a great choice of ale but the selection of whisky more than made for this this. Bar staff were friendly as well. I suggest that anyone give a visit as I think they will be surprised.

Lovely small pub that you need to have your eyes about to find as its in a pokey alleyway off the Royal Mile. Not much of a selection of ale though was rotated. More for ambiance of being in a small pub with a nice fire. McEwans of keg and had a local cider too.

Here on NYE - can't fault the service or availability of two real ales and one real cider - the ale I had was good quality. Malt-of-the-Month promotion was Old Pultney which @ £2.70 is not bad for location...it would have been rude not to.

Muchas turistas, and an annoying barman trying to promote Laphroaig as if only he had ever heard about it. An unsatisfying mixture of old beams and new fittings. Could be worse, could be a lot better.

What a shame. This used to be a nice authentic Edinburgh pub with dark wood and an open fire but the place has gone through a make-over making it feel like a souless boozer...

Was really looking forward to my visit after reading some good reviews. The Jolly Judge was my least favorite pub visited during my stay in Edinburgh. The beer/ale selection was poor and the smell was so awful inside the bar area I wondered was poor soul died in there the week before, and I don't think it was a temporary smell. Real shame, seems like it had great potential.

Ace little place that is very welcoming and relaxing, provided you are free from the scourge of Hen and Stag dos... One group of them can take over the whole place.

Lovely wee hidden away gem. Lived in Edinburgh for years and only found this through a guided tour (Edinburgh Literary pub tour - highly recommended). Lots of history to it - ask about beams on the ceiling (came from an old ship and are painted in original colours).

Nicely situated for the castle,as its just off the Royal Mile...fairly smoky pub,but a decent relaxed atmosphere . The beer (80/-) was very good..As its old town central, you'll need more than a fiver for a couple of pints.

Interesting location in a wynd off the Royal Mile, good for sitting outside on a warm evening although space is severly limited! Usually has two real ales on.
