ive just had the pleasure of spending a long weekend 10 minutes walk down the road form the H&H. the setting is unbeatable. overlooking the west devon hills, on a sunny afternoon, the garden gives one of the greatest pub garden views in the country. the pub inside is a nice and cosy traditional no frills country pub. nothing pretentious or gastropubby. the locals and staff alike were all very friendly and welcoming, and the food was great value and hearty and really enjoyable. the excellent beer is all palmers from down the road in bridport. dog friendly aswell. brilliant

Excellent pub, just stayed in Waytown for the week. The Palmers Ales were in excellent condition but i prefered the Bridge Farm Cider, it was very tasty and a bargain at 2.30. The home cooked food was great, i had the dorset ham egg and chips and also the liver, bacon and onion casserole. Great value at around 8.00. The pub is very dog friendly and has a lovely garden. Also the landlord and the locals would all talk to you. Top stuff.

We were really looking forward to returning to one of our favourite pubs of 20 years ago. Really marred by a hostile and suprisingly rude welcome. Why run a pub if you don't value custom. The couple who used to be here were so friendly. Disappointing. We will not be rushing back.

Grockles beware - the cider is OK but hardly scrumpy. Comes from Thatchers - hardly a small producer

Splendid isolation perhaps sums up this excellent three room village pub. The flag floored main bar is bracketed by a seating area with leather sofas to one side and a plainly decorated dining room to the other. Friendly staff and regulars, a typical village pub atmosphere hangs in the air. A little too much furniture in the dining room but the main bar is a very pleasant room to enjoy the Palmers beers; IPA on a pump and Dorset Gold straight from the cask. It supposedly has a good garden and super views over the valley but it was dark with low cloud when we visited.

Absolutley spot-on. Palmers 200 from the barrel was perfect, Ham Egg & Chips (inspired by earlier review) was about the best I've had in a long time, and She rated the 'Scrumpy' very highly. Add to this great friendly service from ALL the staff, and fabulous walking, and you have the perfect pub. We WILL return.

Idyllic country pub ,not easy for a tourist to find or even to negotiate the narrow lanes but well worth the effort. My boy spent hours contentedly playing in the garden,. It had an ariel ride and a small menagerie. Both food'n beer were wonderful on my visit last year.

Passed my ham, egg and chips test with flying colours i.e. how hard can it be to make decent ham, egg and chips as so many places bugger it up?
Palmers beers in first class order as well, very friendly "natives" as well

The perfect country pub. It's right out of the way but the views from the garden are magnificent. Quite the largest beer garden I've ever seen, it has a football pitch in it!!! The Palmers beer was very well kept, I had the 200 which was drawn straight from the barrel, they also had some local scrumpy too. The landlord was welcoming and the food was delicious, my wife claims that she hasd the best steak of her life in here. Also the cocolate bread and butter pudding was to die for. Shame I live 250 miles away otherwise I'd be back there tonight.

Babylon Morris will be dancing and performing Mummers play (Father Xmas's sons slain by King George then brought back to life) at 1 o'clock New Year's Day. Gets a bit crowded but that's part of the fun. Good beer, everyone always very friendly

Good sandwiches and good beer, but a strange layout with a small bar and larger dining room. The small room by the toilets has more tables, but is soul-less.

Doesn't open until 6:30, so if you want a pint after work it's tough titty. Adjacent to the famous 'River Cottage' location; guess the locals work late. The beer is Palmers: all of their products are excellent. Food is enthusiastically deliverer by two very pretty girls, but the choice is limited. The average diner (on my two visits) had to settle for their fifth choice dish (fish (frozen) and chips), all of the home cooked food having been sold out during the recent bank holiday. Locals seemed a nice enough bunch: Lurchers, Jack Russells and a couple of worzell accents. Great views from the beer garden. Red Legged Partridges and Pheasants in the car park.
