Walked in, 2 real ale pumps covered up, 90's electronic crap blaring.

Walked out.

Now renamed The Red Bear. OK but nothing special.

Two hand pumps offering Doom Bar and York Guzzler at the time of my visit.

I went for the York Guzzler (3.6%) which cost £3.00. Have had this before elsewhere and the pint here did not disappoint.

The only thing I would say is that on my Friday afternoon visit it definitely felt like a "locals" pub, which I did find a bit awkward. Plenty of men of a certain age with their betting slips watching the racing on TV. The front bar is quite small so I probably stuck out like a sore thumb.

Oh well, decent pint, but don't think I would rush back!

Vast difference to a year ago when i last went in. New landlord new attitude, still abit of a work in progress as he's only been in 5 weeks. Clean tidy pub, only 2 real ales on at the moment but they where very very nice, crystal clear and tasted spot on. Great locals pub, will recommend it to anyone who loves the banter and quality ale that this great old pub has to offer.

This is a pleasant enough place, with olde world charm and lots of nic-nacks and interesting stuff in the place. Was renamed to The Darrowby to link it with the tv series All Creatures Great and Small. Worth a visit but the real ales are expensive as the others are. Staff not too friendly, but the locals seemed ok. You can imagine Mr Herriot and Mr Farnon walking in for a beer!

A dark and interesting interior, too much exposed brick but some really good carved woodwork, stained glass and even an old kitchen range in the back of the long single bar. Lots of victorian nic-nacs and ornamental brass objects. A pub with a great deal of potential is let down by some dire beer from Greene King, drinkable but not with much pleasure. The customers didn't seem all that pleased to be there either.
