Attractive pub in a pretty village near the famous castle. Large car park. Range of local beers. Extensive menu includes light meals but also full meals, sometimes with a choice of portion sizes. Food is delicious, generous and good value; but we found the bar service a little slow given that there were so few customers in.

Beer good, food good and they don't rip you off. Good Island pub.

They ought to rename this pub - there are ten bells in the church now. Beer OK when I visited a couple of years ago.

Not a bad pub as such but very dated. In the 70's a pub like this would have been trendy. But the beer is very good and the food was ok. It really is a tourist pub and one especially for families. If you are on a tight budget and want a good meal for your money then this is pretty good. But it could do with a facelift. I gave it 6 out of 10.

We went here late at night, we ordered food and it was freshly cooked and tasty. Beer good too.

Food quality now only average IMO, but prices still highish. Service OK but not outstanding. Kids play area is good, and garden area pleasant. One for a drink with the kids, but not to eat in for us.

The last time I was in this pub was 1995 when I was on Holiday. The time before that was 1969 when I came in from School (Priory Boys). I've have good memories of both these occasions. Good beer and food. I live in Detroit, USA now.

This pub is situated about a mile from Newport Town Centre by the river. It has outside seating area and childrens play area. Non Smoking and Smoking areas separate. Family Friendly. I have visited this pub many times and have always found the food and service to be excellent. Warning!! large portions- comprehensive Special Board.
