Now open again!!! Much changed from when I had my first legal pint there in the early 70s. Has a selection of real ales from near and far (a distant outlet for Black Sheep). Was running a beer festival with entertainment over Easter. Although we did not eat others said the food was good. Hope that it can survive a bit longer than previous attempts.

The Royal Oak has recently re opened and is under new management. This pub has a lovely atmosphere with a large open fire and very friendly staff. The food is excellent. I highly recommend you visting this beautiful country pub that is set in lovely grounds.

Now reopened and doing well under new ownership. Sympathetically refurbished and retaining a county local feel. This deceptively large pub manages to retain it's old world character. Once again popular with locals and getting a good reputation for high quality fresh food cooked with imagination by the new chef. The food is really quite exceptional for a pub and I hope they can maintain the high standards. The cosy small bar offers a good selection of well kept real ale. Service is efficient by friendly bar staff that make everyone welcome.
If you have not been there recently give it a try I know you wont be disappointed.

the car park is allways empty????????
I think they need a new chef. A new menu.
For the size of the pub and grounds, they should be making a packet! and have a full car park every day of the week.

DONT EAT HERE - This is why
My mother used to live in Midhurst and we used to go to the Royal Oak most Sundays. At the time it was owned by to men who had done it up and changed the menu. My mother has subsequently passed away and we continued to go up there on special occasions as it was her pub of choice and because of the memories we had there (we held her wake there).
You may now be wondering why i am rating it as a 0. Well we went down on Easter Monday and they were of course a little busy. My husband ordered a mixed grill which he had eaten before and really enjoyed. When it arrived it looked very unappertising and when he prodded the meat on the plate couldnt find the steak and discovered a suspicious kidney looking object on there. He ate some of it (big mistake) because he was hungry however he left 3/4 on his plate. When the meal was over we took it up with the manager ( a lady we had never seen before) who said there had definately been a steak on the plate. Well my husband said he knew what a steak was and there hadnt been one. She said there was one because all their meat came in a vaccum paked bag. She wouldnt accept that we had a point or continue speaking to us. In fact she turned her back and walked away not even acknowledging out valid complaint. My brother waited until she was in the bar area in defference to the other guests and tried to reason with her (he has worked in michelin star restaurant and whilst thats not the type of food we expected it had gone past the issue of the food and on to her outrageous attitude). She refused to talk to us and has now ruined our experiences and memories of this pub and of our mother. My advice to you would be to stick to the jacket potatoes, at least they cant be vacum packed and dont expect too much! They were clearly struggling.
Very annoyed!

I came here Saturday night (Sat 16) with my girlfriend for a Christmas party. I recall a Magners and a pint of Carling coming to 6 early in the night, so make what you want from that about the prices of drinks if anything. With the Christmas party group making up most of the numbers here, there was a good-humored atmosphere, while the bar staff were all friendly and efficient. Though one young female member of staff seemed bemused by my "Cashley" Cole money which I attempted to leave as a cheeky tip!

The food for our Christmas meal was fantastic, while I liked the smart layout/dcor of the pub, which also has a pool table. Shame I was sitting near a Tottenham and Liverpool fan for the meal, especially the latter, given Charlton's defeat earlier in the day. The men's toilets were also out of order, but sharing with the ladies was interesting as the drink started to flow until someone was sick, leaving an awful stench. Not a great environment for a "quickie" then, ha ha!! Yet this was a superb venue for the night in spite of the pub being a fair walk from the centre of Midhurst and the other boozers.

Great beer garden! I was drinking here on a Monday night recently as the darkness started to fall. As a Sarf-East Londoner, I appreciate drinking in a proper beer garden like this one and not a pub in Central London for instance, where people are simply spilling out onto the pavement in the summer sun! Brilliant boozer for a drink in the sun.
