The pub itself is reasonably pleasant and the staff are friendly. The garden is excellent and since the revamp/name change, the food is of an acceptable standard. BUT, the beer is really really expensive. I think this is the most expensive pub in the area and as a result, we rarely use it.

Long wait for menus and drinks. Very long wait for food. Too pricey for the food on offer.

Not sure what to make of this pub 5 real ales on offer but massed branded ones like doom & London Pride more of a restaurant than a pub but otherwise all ok!

5 real ales on offer in this pub. Looks good after refurb but bit pricey for a pint.

Has been renamed the Nag's Head after a speedy refurb. Not open again yet.

Last pub on the Kanphill crawl. A huge place with a sort of 'Weatherspoons' blandness about it. Nonetheless it has a decent range at good prices and is welcoming enough. Nice big beer garden too although sited along main road.

A really nice pub, with three real ales avaiable. London pride is really nice. Log fires roaring over winter. Nice beer garden looking over the Surrey countryside.

In here last Sat and very busy. An unexpected coach party had decided to drop of for lunch. Anyway the staff were able to handel the situation real fine.
A very pleasent young lady even apologised for keeping me waiting for what was only 3-4 mins. There are 3 hand pumps serving London Pride and Sharps Doom Bar @ 3.05 a pint but I went for the Rev James at a very reasonable 2.85 a pint. The lower bar also has 2 pumps but they are without clips and apeared to be unused.

What a horrible horrible place to eat. Went there on Sunday, admittedly it was busy but was greeted by a woman(think she is the owner) who had a face like thunder and was so annoyed that she had to serve me. (good start) Then ordered 6 meals. WE waited for an hour and 15 minutesd for the food, the waitress came up to us twice and aksed us if we had eated yet??? The food was really awful. The roasts has been reheated at least twice, the meat was gristly and the whole thing was cold. The scampi was mostly batter and was almost raw. The burgers arrived with a bit of processed cheese on the top which had been melted anough to make it go hard and start to curl, to be honest it looked nuclear. The fish pie was cold and reheated. The condiments had bits of other peoples food in it, the tartare had a couple of peas and a bit of batter, the ketchup had a bit of burger in it...Lovely!
The plus side, it was cheap, but to be honest I would rather have paid an axtr 5-10 per person and had a decent meal. This place really is horrible, which is a shame as I ate there about a year ago and it was nice. I would boycott it until they start caring again...because they clearly have lost their mojo.

3 of us ate there recently, firstly the beer was in superb condition, Rev James 2.85 and London pride 2.65 Food was hot and excellent quality for the price compared to pubs in the area, service was quick and there were very few spare seats available, will revisit sooner rather than later. 47 for 2 starters 3 mains inc. 1 steak, beers and coffees ...very good value

Been here a couple of times lately, beer was in very good condition and cheap for the area, food is typical pub fare and is cheaper than many pubs around Woking, 6.75 for fish and chips, nice and hot and served in a timely fashion.

This pub was give a semi-makeover in 2008 and the front area has been turned back into a pub type bar. It is actually very cosy in winter with a good log fire. As other posters have said, the restaurant food can be a bit indifferent but the beer is kept really well and more and more locals now use the pub as a result. The landlord keeps a very good cellar and there are usually three real ales available. Another plus point is the garden which is large and very pleasant.

Have been going here for years. Used to be a nice place to eat. The last year to 18 months has really gone down. Starter of garlic mushrooms with garlic dip, the dip had a skin on it !! The shepherd pie, well I have made tastier ones (and I am no chef), ask for a coffee and get 2 !! It has also become the latest meeting for NCT groups and like, lets face it, who wants to go the pup for lunch and have a dozen toddlers running around and dropping their cutlery. I am not anti kids, I have 4 of my own, but there are certain places you take them and to a pub which has no play facilities and is not properly fenced off from the A322 (very busy) road is not one of them. Will be giving it a wide berth for some time to come.

Do not go to this pub! I just took my family for a New Years Day lunch and we arrived at 12:40. It was 12:55 before we were asked for our drinks order and another five minutes until we could order our food. The drinks arrived at 13:15 and the food didn't arrive until 13:45. Two of our five meals were the wrong meals and three meals were really cold when delivered (only one of which was the wrong meal). We did not send them back because it would have taken another 30 minutes to see them again. When I asked for sauces and condiments I was told 'bear with us as we have a lot of meals to deliver'. We never saw her again. Only one meal was hot and the right meal. They only had two waitresses to handle a nearly full lunchtime trade. In fact, if the food had been warm it probably would have been tasty - but we shall never know. The beer was good but we could not order another round or desserts because we didn't want to wait for another 20 to 30 minutes (and maybe get the wrong orders!). A complete disaster. Avoid at all costs!

Lunched there today with family, and can see where some of the previous comments came from. Food adequate but nothing special. Service at the bar was incredibly slow, and I heard at least two diners asking where their food was, having ordered it over half an hour ago. Why do so many pubs, as here, try to muddle through with a skeleton staff?
philanders - 26 May 2008 18:52
Somewhere between poor and appalling! 5 years ago the service was awful so we never went back but after refurbishment and new management we went back today for a special occasion. Wish we hadn't bothered. Starters were ok but then over an hour's wait for main courses which arrived under cooked (steak and fish) and over cooked (all veg). Poor presentation of food and serving staff who didn't appear to care less about customers. No apology forthcoming. It'll be longer than 5 years this time - probably never!!!

This used to be a very good pub with a great atmosphere. Recently the food has been mediocre to below average. Food served is either overcooked or not cooked (For roasted peppers!)No service recovery by manager to fix problem.

Great place with a good atmosphere for the civilised person! Food is great and the staff very attentive.

On a visit to England, my daughter and her husband brought me to this pub. We also had a baby. I have to say that we had a lovely time - the food was great, the staff very pleasant, the manager very friendly. The back beer garden has a great view over a wood and an apple orchard. I had a few pints of London Pride.... what more can you ask for? And I liked the school outfit; what humourless humbugs object to a little fun?
I shall certainly go back.
billyocarra - 1 Sep 2007 17:50
Food was below average but not terrible. The starter was incredibly small for the price. Service was very poor. Im not sure if this is supposed to be a faulty towers theme pub or if the manager really is like he acts.
anonymous - 8 Jul 2007 18:32
Not that great these days, the bar seems to be dirty, the staff ignore you.Its a ahame as the pub itself has loads of potential and the garden is massive so could be a really good pub.

This place is not a pub. Its a cheap restaurant which has a bar in it. The so called manager has no management skills whatsoever. My food was cold.

I'm 22 and find this place *really* dull as my new local, unfortunately. Really dark inside and lacking atmosphere, the food is quite expensive and the menu is really limited, especially for non-meat-eaters. As someone previously said, it's ok if you are taking an elderly relative out for a quiet sunday lunch. It is a nicer place in the summer though, as it has a good outside garden. As for the comment about the 'sexy waitresses' - they look like schoolgirls, in black skirts, white shirts and ties... sexy maybe, but no need for the sleazy comment!

How can a pub that purports to care about food quality not even provide simple condiments like Black Pepper.?

Even the chef does not have a pepper mill.. so I was told!

Very poor.
Foody4Four - 5 Oct 2006 16:29
I was fearful before entering this pub - it had the look of "themed family pub - approach with caution" written all over it.

It clearly is a food pub - there is a restaurant area that was absolutely packed. I of course therefore had something to eat, and it was very nice. The waitresses are very sexy too..

I would recommend this pub if say, you have an elderly relative you need to take out for an uncomplicated meal. For a proper drinking session, I wouldn't recommend it.

nice place with good food, can very busy and have had a couple of bad experiences (waiting for food etc) but overall quite a nice place.

absolutly splendid. have not got enough praise for this pub - great at the weekend to get away from noisy young families (no offence but wouldnt reccomend you bring children here) smart, friendly young staff, fabulous food and fantastic selection of beers and wines.
anonymous - 14 Jan 2006 23:59
Good place for a selection of wines and decent beers.Friendly young bar staff. Will go back to eat soon.

Very poor.

As a party of six, we went to the Hunters Lodge for a meal.

We were told that our drinks order would be brought to our table, but it took nearly twenty minutes to arrive - one drink was cloudy, another had to be returned because the glass was very visibly dirty.

When we came to order food, items from the menu were unavailable, and the staff refused to accommodate children's portions, seemingly because they were more interested in being inflexible and officious than helpful. We walked out at this point and went elsewhere, of course.

All this while the place wasnt especially busy and looked fully staffed!

I would advise people to give this place a wide berth, at least until they've got their staff sorted out.

........found this place by accident and will definitely be back next time I'm in the area (will give the wife a treat!) food and service was excellent plus helpful smiling staff, cosy log fire that was well attended, pity it's not more local to Richmond,

Ok pub bit smelly needs a refurb..
Got annoyed when my Roast Beef turned up with a tiny portion and then two staff sat next to me with the biggest Sunday Lunches you could imagine..!
Will not be back and no I am not greedy, I am thin though maybe they thought I didn't eat!
