Popped in for a family lunch last Friday. Quiet, but not empty. Very welcoming staff and a couple of good draught beers on. We had the Pots from The Flowerpots Brewery at Cheriton and it was in fine condition. (I did comment to the barmaid that I thought it was a bit expensive at £3.80 a pint, when in my local it is £2.80, but she informed me that The Star is the cheapest pub in the area!) Having said that, it was so good, we had to have another one!
The food was excellent and good value for money. The usual 'pub menu' but with some subtle additions to make things interesting. The service was attentive but not overpowering and the two young children with us were suitably catered for.
I occasionally use this pub as a mid-way meeting point between home and our daughter's house and have always enjoyed my visits. We have always been well looked after, well fed and the beer is always up to a good standard. I hope to be able to return in the near future.

Can't understand why I haven't rated this pub before! I dropped in here last summer, purely out of curiosity as it was featured in the TV series 'The Village' back in the '90's. It had changed quite alot from how it looked on the TV but the welcome was warm and the beer was good.

Haven't been to the Star for years but popped in for lunch at the weekend and was very pleasantly surprised. Friendly and welcoming - roaring log fire - two good beers on hand pump and food was lovely. Will be visiting more often!

The Star has been through a fairly major overhaul this year and is much improved as a result. The best kept secret, however, is the little bistro/restaurant - it would not be an exaggeration to say that the food is simply fantastic.

En route Alton to Farnham (on foot) called in for a nice pint of Fullers Pride. Had Courage and Doom Bar also (the bar,not me). Pub undergoing a refurb with the aim of serving good wholesome grub at decent prices - from a fiver to ten poonds. All home cooked. Will call bck and sample this fine looking fare.

The Star has gradually been turned into a quality village pub since taken on by Tufty and Jane the licensees since 2003. Took them a few years to haul it out of the mire left by the previous licensees... ... but the effort shows.
The beer is good, the range is good and it is ever-changing now it is a Free House. The decor, atmosphere, service, facilities have all improved immeasurably as they have regularly updated/replaced/changed things along the way. Regular live music, and at other times, an eclectic extensive personal CD collection played from behind the bar. Landscaped outside area at the back of the pub, plus seats out front.
Food is no longer Indian but is now "modern English Bistro" run as a franchise under a keen new chef. Short menu, quality food. I have tried it!
Was my local from 2001-2008, and have been back regularly since. The kind of pub every village should have.

If you are looking for a real village pub then look no further. I do not live in the Village but I have now been here several times and there is always a warm welcome and friendly face behind the bar, a good choice of ales and the wine is always at the perfect temperature. Recently I discovered the gorgeous garden to the rear of the pub. Looking forward to their new menu starting in September, it will be somewhere that I will be taking my visitors from abroad to have a taste of a true English Village Pub!

Now a freehouse with a good range of non-standard beers and lagers. Friendly staff and locals. Quality Indian food server in a pleasant restaurant area, takeaway and delivery also available. Quiz night every Tuesday. Superior live music once a month. Well worth a visit. Friday night is my favourite.

The Star has always been a great boozer.

Fabulous food, fantastic staff ....... Was treated like a 'guest', rather than just another pub-goer. Can't praise the place highly enough.
There are those 'brown tourist signs' off the main road directing you to two pubs, take my advice and take the right turn. We tried the left turn first and took one look at the menu and surroundings and got back into the car. Just go to the Star.
