Went recently as I have just moved to the area , and am looking for a pub to call my local ... And I may have found it ...I was beginning to despair , apparently the alma has new landlords ,can't comment on previous owners as never went there then , but a lovely pub ,nice selection of beers and wine , food looked good and the pub has a nice ambiance , and beautifully kept , they obviously work hard to maintain a high standard of customer care , looking forward to having many and pint getting to know other locals

Stopped off for a quick pint one evening. Good selection of ales including Olde Trip at £3.50 a pint. Quite nice decor inside including log fire and sofas which looks quite recently changed. Appears to have occaissional evening entertainment too.

Worth a look IMHO if you're passing by.

7/10

Took the advice of spike49 and scorpiondragon and paid a visit to the Ball & Wicket, had a excellent home made burger and chips and a pint of bitter, all for under a tenner. Thanks guys.

Totally agree with you Spike... The Alma has moved up market, very different from the other pubs in the area... all round good value, good beers and lovely food, all at competitive prices

Well dmcritic1 looks like you have formed an opinion of the pub from just one visit. Suggest you go to a few of the other local establishments before moaning about the food and beer prices. The food is excellent and well worth it. You should have come to the pub before the present owners took over.
spike49 - 25 Nov 2011 10:44
The Alma seems to be suffering from "local politics"...
The beers are more or less the same price as those at other pubs in the vicinity and are kept very well and are always consistent. The food is also excellent and reasonably priced with a wide choice available. The current team have turned this pub around from what is was before (not good at all) to what it is now, a clean, very modern, up market establishment... different and a cut above the rest

Been back to The Alma after a few months! Great to see its remained a nice friendly pub and the food has gone from good to scrumptiously nice with great choices! New staff has also changed the atmosphere and is nice to see a few pretty girls who are very friendly!
This pub has definately changed its face... clean, good food and nice people working and drinking there! A great place to pop in and just relax! (great tunes too!)

Will definately be back for sunday lunch soon!

I was told about the nearby The Alma pub was under new ownership, well not sure you could describe it as a village pub more like an camp wine bar, saying that it was very clean and neat and has a good selection of wines and beers. I felt the drinks were over priced,3.70 for a pint of Abbot is a bit over the top. We ordered from the limited menu and food was average pub grub, very small portions and well over priced. For a friday night the pub was very quite and there was a major lack of atmosphere. I can not seeing us returning on this form, suggest the owners need to get there act together as I could see The Alma being added to the long list of pub closures in the the Farnham area.

Great pub, lovely food, friendly helpful staff... cant see why anyone would want to boycott one of the few remaining clique free pubs in the area.... keep up the good work guys, good to see you back Martin

I was back in Farnham at the weekend, and went into the Alma to see if it was still as good as when I visited last year. I am pleased to report that the management team are still maintaining their high standards. It was a busy night due to the fireworks display and karaoke, but the service was still friendly and efficient. The Manager even came over to introduce himself, and to make sure that my parents and I were being looked after. We thought that was a really nice touch. Mum and Dad hadnt been to the Alma before, and will definitely be going back. I wish I lived a bit more locally so that I could join them!

Went to the fireworks last night with the family. Have to say that they were very good and very well organised although did not appear to be well attended as understand that most of the regulars are boycotting the pub due to comments made by the landlords. For whatever reason this is a great shame.

Had not been to The Alma for a while but popped in for lunch last week. Food still excellent but even better to see Martin back behind the bar. Welcome back!!

A most welcoming freindly pub. Great real ale & draught ciders. Brilliant food all at a very fair price. Fantasic service from the most polite, helpful & efficient staff one could wish to meet. The locals make you feel very much at home. I would reccomend The Alma to anyone who wants a good pint, good food and a very warm welcome!

Lovely to see how this pub is working out. Good food and helpful bar staff

Thank you an enjoyable evening

If you like a friendly pub Andrew,,, give the Ball & Wicket a miss
Lousy beer and an invisible landlord / owner who goes by the name of Holsten Pils,,, champions his brew beers, but alas, doesn't drink them himself, and never serves anyone a drink ,,,

Been about seven times now. This is beginning to feel like the place to enjoy in the area. No nastiness and no over bearing landlord like up the road. I have to write as I consider the overtones from Beardless Wonder to be inappropriate. This is a great pub, which I will support on a regular basis as there are only two establishments that really good food and they are The Alma and The Lobster Pot.

Our friends want us to try The Ball and Wicket as they would like to give it a go-lets see what happens!

Went here to try the food the other day during the snow, got to say quite good. There seems to be a bit of a theme going on here possibly a pink pub, still not to worry at least it's still open.

Pub under new management has made great strides. Found the food to be good, however, portions were smaller than anticipated. The new boys were very welcoming and the decor was a complete contrast to what had been there before.

Sunday lunch was good and the friendliness of 'The Alma', which may become my local endears all.

Thank you for such a pleasant experience.

I popped in with my husband as I heard the Alma had started doing food again since the new owners had taken over. I'd also heard the chef was Italian so thought might be worth a look!
Turns out both the new landlords are easy on the eye but also very charming and welcoming.
I had the 'lasagna' - which tasted fabulously authentic and truly homemade. My hubby had the stilton burger which he loved, especially as he could actually taste the stilton. We also shared a lovely warm camembert with red onion marmalade, it was so tasty! Had a coupe of glasses of red, first the merlot then the rioja. Both were nice but the rioja was very lovey and drinkable. Tried homemade truffles for desert for something different. Very nice and highly recommended!
So glad we visited, the new owners have done wonders with the decor and the new menu. Will definately be visiting again.

I popped into the Alma for lunch as I had heard that it had recently changed hands. I was extremely impressed by the improvements that the new owners have made. The new decor was lovely. The pub felt really homely with a real log fire, comfy sofas, friendly service & even two cute pub dogs!

The food was delicious. I had a chickpea, spinach & mushroom curry, and my friend had stilton burger & chips. We shared a tasty bottle of rioja. We will definitely be going back again soon to try out the Sunday roast! Well done to the new owners.
Ms_Douquet - 15 Nov 2010 19:39
What a lovely transformation! The new owners have made some lovely improvements and there is even a full menu and Sunday lunch which by all means is superb. Well done guys and keep it up.

That pub is SOOO nice but just needs some life back into it! and food! once sunday roasts were really good! hope the new landlords will give it a boost and bring it back to be a lovely quaint pub! My age group needs a place to go a chill out drink eat and play! come on... we need some good people in there to lift it up and bring new life and faces to the area!

Popped in for a couple on Saturday lunchtime, good pint, friendly locals and bar staff. Although it was raining, the beer garden looked lovely, will be back to try it on a better day.

The pub definately has a friendly feel about it, it's decor is fresh and well looked after. Didn't get the chance to try the food, maybe next time.
FuzzyKipper - 3 Nov 2008 21:25
The Alma is a great looking pub with good beer and a reasonably priced food menu - shame about the current miserable sod of a relief manager - cant wait for a real landlord to come back.

oh dear oh dear.......
BobBoiston - 9 Apr 2008 17:26
Yet again another Landlord scarpered, what is wrong with this pub? And by the way hotlegs (Martin) I do know you.
HolstenPils - 27 Jan 2008 12:31
Hotlegs is 100% right. Simon and Sue are doing a great job. Its both a great pub and a centre of the community. Only shame is its so small! Beer excellent, food superb. Jamaican BBQ a triumph and Bonfire night coming up!
BobBoiston - 22 Oct 2007 20:55
