Spent SUN/MON 13th/14th AUG 2011.
A very friendly pub, the carvery was really nice. The young man behind the bar very very funny, Should be on the stage.
Before we were due to come home , we had lunch and the young lady who cooked for us really did us proud.
Will be back again, real soon.

Disappointing food in quality although get plenty of it! Undercooked oven chips, stale burger bun.
No atmosphere. Bar staff young and seemingly only interested in their friends. Avoid.

For five successive years I organized a Christmass Lunch for about forty guests at the Griffin which was a delight. Food & staff were great. On attempting to book for the sixth time I found new people in charge. I was assured that a Christmass menu would be sent to me; it wasn't so they were clearly not interested in accepting my booking and another pub got the order(see Kettleburgh Chequers).

I thought I would give this pub another visit,as there are new landlords in.
They have a new menu which is traditional english type foods.
The prices were very good, and the portions where huge.
I will be going back soon

The landlords of this pub are trying to make this a nice place to visit again.
The food has certainly gone downhill quite a bit.
I had burger and chips, the chips were not cooked properly even though they were oven chips, the burger had no salad just a plain burger in a bun.
I found this rather dissapointing as it cost 5.95

Had a meal with my family today, the Pub was very quiet. The lady behind the bar and chef appeared to be making a joke as I asked for a jug of water with the meal, didn't realise till later the joke was on me. The butter for the soup had a half dead moth on it, the bread rolls were stale. The beef basket? - was a mixture of dough and pastry and was absolutley terrible. The beef had no seasoning and tasted as though it had come straight from a dogs tin of food. There was a strong strange aftertaste to the beef & gravy, I was sick later three times...very dubious. As I paid for the meal I mentioned the points that were odd/strange - I was met by a "oooohh" and no further communication. Very disappointing, don't go here, its terrible, its the worst food my family has had in 3 years. To be fair the salmon seemed ok, but we will NEVER visit this pub again in our lives. Hope this review helps

I last reported (below) in 2005, when it was great. Now its not so good, but I believe the management has changed again, so the future is looking more hopeful.

As a regular part of the Griffin's clientele for the last decade I can't say as I've noticed myself going downhill severely over the previous 6 months. Also all this constant fighting must be happening very discretely. I seem to remember the occasional colourful incident during the days of the previous landlord, so to my mind the pub hasn't changed that much.

There have been a few changes since the present landlords took over and some of them have been quite big. However, it has to be said that the food, beer and restaurant are all improved and the ongoing renovation of the building is gradually turning the old pub into something far cleaner and better equipped than it has ever been.

The regular monthly folk session and occasional Jazz and Blues gigs are still going on as normal, and the number of families coming in to enjoy a meal doesn't seem to have lessened.

I don't work for the pub, I just like drinking in it. I have no axe to grind.

Unlike some folk, it seems.

Unfortunately due to a change of management I cannot recommend this pub.
In the last 6 months, the beer, food, clientele and atmosphere have gone downhill severely.
It has gone from a place I would happily go to with friends or family, to one where a fight breaking out is more regular occurrence than a friendly conversation with one of the bar staff.
Please avoid.

The Griffin in Yoxford has a great atmosphere and friendly clientele. It's my mum and dad's local pub, and although the village has two other pubs (The Blois and the Queens Head), I much prefer it.

It has regular events such as a weekly quiz evening (on Thursdays) and live music - folk, jazz etc, usually on Saturdays.

It has a separate restaurant which is non-smoking, and the food is quite good. The menu includes game dishes and even some dishes made to Elizabethen recipes - for which a glass or two of mead goes down well with! I especially recommend the landlady's home-made icecream!

The pub also has a pool table and a quiz machine (so you can pack the kids away from the bar).

The pub also has some rooms available for Bed and Breakfast, which are very popular so I would advise booking in advance.

All in all, I would recommend this pub.
