We have just returned home after a two night stay at the Pyewipe. We throughly enjoyed the stay although the Pyewipe does seem to fall between three stools. Is it a hotel, a restaurant or a pub? I agree that Old Speckled Hen and Ruddles County is a cop out by the management as there are so many better alternatives from local microbreweries. Having said that the staff were extremely pleasant, the food reasonably priced and tasty and the room at the nearby lodge had the mosty comfy bed and duvet I've slept in for aged. Not as good as our MemoryFoam mattress but still very good. We liked the place a lot. Incidentally the so called twenty minute walk along the towpath into the city took 35 minutes and we walk fast!

Pretty dismal choice of ales - Hen and Ruddles Best - but the food was actually quite tasty. Benefits from an interesting location, but sadly not worthwhile enough in itself as a destination. A wasted opportunity that rather lacked atmosphere.

I can't help but think this place feels like an opportunity lost, both for real ale fans and foodies alike. So, starting with the good points, this pub is in a beautiful location situated next to the Fossdyke Canal and just 20 minutes walk from picturesque Lincoln. On a sunny day what better than to sit in the beer garden and watch the boats. Well, 'better' would be a more inspiring choice of ales for a start - as Greene King limits you to just Old Speckled Hen or Ruddles County. How about treating guests to a 'locale' guest beer for instance, given the many fine local brews available in Lincolnshire. Then there's the food - the menu promises a lot but fails to deliver. My smoked salmon on bruschetta was a thick 'lump' of salmon (they hadn't even separated the layers of the fish) on a rock hard piece of bread with some tired rocket dropped on top and a few drops of balsamic vinegar. Again, if they got a good chef and team in here, they could do wonders.
Despite the above, when I visited on a sunny Sunday lunchtime the place was absolutely packed, with four or five cars 'circling' the car park to find a space. Perhaps that's why the people running the place feel like they don't have to try that hard?

After a brief stop at the impressive Three Horseshoes in Waddington (not listed on here), we finished our Tuesday evening Lincolnshire crawl at the Pyewipe. The pub is located down a long lane that is a dead end and is next to the canal. Whilst it is an impressive and large building, the 2 Greene King beers were less than inspiring - Old Speckled Hen & Ruddles Best. Nice location. Disappointing beers.

Clearly a very recent refurb - smart enough - in a "1960s Posh" sort of way, ie lots of gilt against dark pink and plum red: rather like a set from the "Avengers". Perfectly acceptable pint of Spitfire but an uninspired (and expensive) cheese baguette. (No choice when it came to type of cheese.) As others have commented, the real strength of this place its fantastic location, but they don't seem to build on this. It's a boaters and walkers pub but feels like something you used to drive ou to for "Chicken-in-a-Basket". when that was considered the hight of sophistication!
And what became of the stuffed albatross which used to sit behind the bar?

Oh my god, what a mistake! A lifeless, bland, overpriced, unwelcoming pub set in a nice location. This pub could be so much more with a little effort. The staff were uncharismatic. The food is ridiculously overpriced for the quality and portion size. The owners and children decided to play on the internet and chat with friends while we were trying to make the most of our pityful meal.
Will never eat here again but may stop for a drink if desperate after a walk on the canal!!!!

A dreary over priced pub in a very nice location. All you can say is that it is probably par for the course in Lincoln, apart from some nice pubs near the cathedral. It is better than the next pub along the Fossdyke navigation canal, the Woodcock, which is dreadful.

Yeah okay so it ain't right on the main road and takes a bit of effort to get to but thats the point. Lovely peaceful spot to get a couple of beers and watch the boats go by.
Food is also good

The Pyewipe Inn is situated on the Fossdyke navigation, just outside Lincoln.
Contrary to other reviews is very easy to get to.
Situated on the national cycle network route 64, it takes just minutes to reach by cycle and just half an hour on foot from the centre of Lincoln. and very easy to get to of course by either car or boat.
But the food is rather expensive, and I would now class the Inn as a resturant not a pub.

Went here once, never again �30 for 2 drinks & 2 meals crikey, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask, & if you havn't got a car, you've got to get there by boat, & that's around �5 each an expensive couple of hours just for some grub.

This pub can also be reached by boat as it is on the bank of the fossdyke.
