Dave - If you look again you'll find that I did say that the Anchor is a good pub. I'll be back to watch football - providing it doesn't happen again. Same as for any pub. Having said that, I don't think many would have been that concerned about the reputation of this pub (or any other for that matter) if a kid had been blinded by a glass or knocked out by a thrown stool. On the day of the North London derby, it was clear that it wasn't going to take much for the bad atmosphere to get violent. By asking a couple of idiots to stop the racist abuse or ask them to leave it could have been avoided. We all saw what happened when the bar staff allowed it to continue. Lets face it, if it continues to happen you'd imagine the Anchor would suffer (if it hasn't already). You'd be left with those who think its acceptable to attack people in pubs and the (many) decent people who regularly come along will soon find somewhere else to go for a quiet and safe drink. If you had a mate who always started fights you'd soon get fed up and find another mate.....

In response to the review below, I've been a regular at The Anchor for nearly thirty years now and in all my time there I've seen two fights. The pub has a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, but unfortunately sometimes idiots will be idiots. Every other London derby I've been to there has been trouble free and often there is a light hearted rivalry between Arsenal and Spurs fans. I'm sorry that you happened to be there the one time it did kick off, but I feel you've been entirely unfair to The Anchor in painting it in a bad light.

Good pub and good beer - McMullens, a choice of lagers and non alcoholic Becks for drivers. Not a bad beer garden and the food is reasonably good pub fare. Good also for watching the football. But not when its the North London derby......I was there yesterday with a mate and about 10 Arsenal fans had come along to this pub in "Tottenham country". All through the game we had to put up with shouts of 'terrorist/gyppo ****' aimed at the Spurs players and you could feel the mood get uglier by the minute. Then when the Spurs winner went in it all kicked off. It was the usual bunch of idiots throwing cheap punches and cowardly chavs shouting and then hiding but it got ugly - tables going over and glasses everywhere. One guy, with a sloping forehead and an IQ about the same as Arsenals points total this season, even picked up a stool to throw but was persuaded not to. There were quite a few children and women in the pub as well as some old guys hoping to see the game in safety. I felt that the bar staff could have nipped this in the bud right at the start and avoided this happening.
