Am a regular here. Currently run by Jaz and Elton who have been there probably 5 years. Both they and their staff give a friendly welcome. Is 2 minutes from Stowmarket Station with a good selection of real ales including Adnams. Live music at week-ends, car park with outside seating plus a lively team scene from football to crib.

Pub number '6' during a Stowmarket crawl, so memory getting a bit hazy by this time !
An excellent pub - with excellent beer - Woodford's Wherry & Adnams Bitter.
Good 'pubby' atmosphere, although quiet for a Saturday afternoon, but we weren't complaining.
Would certainly visit again.

I think if you look back in history the name of the pub came from a fishing industry that use to thrive in the Gipping back in the 1800's.

The pub was also used at the end of the harvest, as far back at 1813, for the farm workers to spend their "frolic money".

I have no personnel knowledge of this pub as I'm sitting here in BC Canada. There is a book, Life and Traditions in Suffolk and North East Essex, by Norman Smedley, 1976 ( ISBN 0 460 04221 I )

Due to copyright I can not print what is says about this pub, but the pub is mentioned on page 86 of this book.

Went on a Saturday and enjoyed an excellent live band, beer was served just right and a good choice of Adnams or Shepards Neam's Spitfire (which I've never had on draft before!)

The landlady was welcoming and the staff were very friendly, an outstanding choice for a night out with live tunes in Stow' and a decent pint!

Loud and Vibrant (and thats on the nights without a band, (Fridays and Saturdays)) Staff friendly enough, agree with Quinno, last review, Adnams is well kept but a bit cold. Nothing to really set it apart a run of the mill drinking hole.

Old skool pub with old skool regulars and big dogs. 2 beers on, my pint of Adnams Bitter was good, if a little cold. Other choice was Greedy King IPA.

Darts available. Beware of the quizzer, it takes your money for no return.

Definately better for a pre-tarin pint than the Verandah (aka Gordon Brittas' leisure centre).
