This pub has re-opened under the management of Phil & Michelle and it is now a fantastic evening out, back to the Railway of old.
A live band most Friday and Saturday nights (e.g. Riff Raff 20th March 2010, Guns n Roses tribute 26th March 2010), the annual Bike Show (4th April 2010) for the motorbike enthusiast with a road run during the day and a band in the evening (Roxoff), quiz nights on some Sundays, Karaoke on Tuesday, pub poker night (think that's Monday), reasonable beer, friendly patrons and good bar staff.
I'm a regular and I think it's fab - come and see for yourselves!!!

The Railway has now closed down. Rumours are that there's going to be a Travel Lodge style hotel on the site at some stage in future.

Very expensive drinks, miserable bar staff and extremely rude owners. Word of warning if you are a band playing for the first time here, they will not pay you unless the pub has 100+ persons inside on a sunday and 200+ on a friday or saturday. They do not tell you this at the beginning of your gig so unless they give you your money up front do not play here! Even the regulars are fed with the owners of this pub and the way they treat bands

The good news for all those of you knocking the Railway is that it's closing down, so you won't have to worry about its shortcomings any more.

Once a decent venue now a grim dive. Has recently had a ridiculous noise limit imposed (110 decibels) I turned up with my band to play and our drummer alone was 120. Thing is, standing right outside the pub you can barely hear bands at all. This place is not going to last long. Miserable staff, overpriced beer, they are digging their own grave. Boycott.

I don't go in here a lot, but always have a good night when I do venture in to see a band.
Thankfully the smoke issue is no longer a problem, but it does get very hot in here in the summer.

The Railway has had a lick of paint and looks much smarter inside. I have always found the Adnams to be good so the previous reviewer may just have been unlucky. I have heard tales of bands being sent packing by the landlord but I don't know the background to this so won't comment further. The main problem with this pub is that it just gets too smoke filled. It has air conditioning but I have never known it to be turned on.

If you like a horrible pint served in a dirty glass by the most miserable barmaid in the history of most miserable barmaids where the regulars go out their way to throw evil looks at you and make you feel really unwelcome, then this is the place for you.

What ever has happened to the railway? Once upon a time in the distant past it was a pub that invited and positively made welcome people that ride motorcycles and love rock music. Bring back the days when it hosted the bike shows once a year( which raised money for local charites) and you could pop down on a friday or saturday and be confident you will meet up with friends with similar taste and rock the night away. Nowadays you can't be sure the band will be made wellcome enough by the management, to stay and play. What's is the future of the railway? its seems rather blue!
