Popped in here one lunchtime and there were four handpumps: Spitfire, Worthington (99p a pint), GK IPA, Bass (although this had been turned around). Had a Spitfire which I assume was the first out of the pipes because it wasn't brilliant. Also ate but food was fairly average - mind you I didn't expect a great meal given it was 6.95 for two meals. It's not a bad looking pub, wooden floors and various features but it has a JDW feel about it with the cheap beer and food.

Don't know why this place has never done well as it should have potential. Went upstairs to play pool and the upstairs bar was totally deserted. When first opened, both floors were often busy, but that very soon faded. Used to be a job centre. As I now work in a job centre, shame it still isn't. Might make the work a little more interesting, but we'd never get rid of the claimants.

Used to have a brilliant range of ale but went in there one evening this week and they had ten hand pumps but only one beer (GK IPA). GK taking this one over has meant it has taken a serious turn for the worse.

Cheers TiaMariaJim, I am obviously getting confused with the Lloyds No.1 pubs. I guess in that case it is owned by Greene King then! The ale selection today then is understandable.

Sorry Love_good-ale, this pub is nothing to do with Wetherspoons, they were never involved with Hogsheads. I think you're confusing their Lloyds No.1 pubs with this one which is presumably named after its address.

Mmm!, I have not looked in here since the Hogshead days. In those days there was quite a good choice of different real ales. Popped in today and only GK IPA and Speckled Hen available. I thought this place is now owned by Wetherspoons. Wetherspoons promotes being a free house and having a reasonable changing selection. I know Greene King punt out their ales cheap to free houses but this is the last thing you want to see in a non GK owned pub.

This pub has been renamed "Lloyds Tavern"

OKish pub, kind of cramped interior, central location, a couple of real ales.
