Don't go here if you don't like sports, sticky floors or plastic glasses. If you do it's great. Staff are good considering.

Walkabout Brighton has been bought by Cavendish Bars and will soon close. it will no longer be Walkabout but likely to be rebranded as Wahoo. So far the Walkabouts in Southampton, Oldham and Putney have been converted. From the look of their website the brand is a an American version of Walkabout, complete with buckets of buffalo wings and grilled food. this will be interesting.

Farewell to Walkabout Brighton.

Walkabout is by far one of the best bars in Brighton. Cheap drinks and deals throughout the week, great music from 2 of the best dj's and friendly staff, what more could you ask for. It's not that glamorous inside but who cares when you've had a few too many to drink!! 10/10 from me :)

Considering what a great city Brighton is and it has so much to offer this venue is irrelevant. There is so many better places to go in Brighton you are very spoilt for choice.

Being in this Walkabout you may as well be sitting in Croydon, Bromley, Wimbledon or Centreal London. so don't bother. it's full of the usual heavy handed bouncers, threatening blokes and vulnerable girls.

if you are visiting Brighton, visit for what it has to offer. you will be pleasantly surprised. there is no need to go to a clone Australian bar. Some Australian who live and work in Sydney think they are horrendous places.

I have read through some of these comments and it seems some people have suggested things rather than given actual fact.

So here is the honesty.

The reason Walkabout and all venues over a 600 capacity serve in plastics is down to local police licensing asking them to do so.

There is police presence in west street but this is not for any place in perticular. Its for public safety and to control the many people coming out of this congested area. As im sure you can appreciate there are many clubs and bars in west street.

No its not the ritz and yes its a loud party bar thats open till 3am but it also has live music, and sport, plus DJ's and drinks deals. So all in all its not a bad venue to go to and rarely has trouble, as per the award for best bar from sussex police shows above the door as you walk in.

Reviewers so not suggest things, but rather review them.

As far as i see the walkabout, its loud, its fun, theres a good atmosphere and its cheaper than many over late night places.

OMG savage pub! 5 girls have been over frm Ireland to Brighton for the past 3 yrs and we always go to the Walkabout with the intention of goin to the club nxt door but we do have such a good time that we never seem to make it to the club! The staff were friendly behind the bar even though they didnt know what fat frogs were but we tuaght them ha ha! Bouncers very nice especially Harry! Im a bit surprised by some of the comments on this as we absolutely love this pub and always have a great night in it, even better when The Chebbs are playing! See ya nxt year!

Located at the bottom of fight street, this place would be a poor choice in a town that boasts such an amazing range of pubs. Any place where police wagons are parked outside before any trouble has kicked off should raise alarm bells with any sensible person.

Agree with the previous comments 100%. Not somewhere I'd want to revisit in a hurry. Plastic glasses don't add tothe ambience but do explain rather a lot about the place.

Must agree with Danr below. Tis exactly what you would expect --- nay desire, from this type of establishment. I will not be taking my wife here for a romantic evening nor will I be taking the kids here for a fun day out. I will attend this establishment in my stoneage man mode. Many big friends, tribal clothing (England shirt) and attire that is easily washed or replaced. I know it's not exactly what CAMERA would call a fine old seaside pub but if we didn't have places like this for the stag nights - big footy nights then, horror of horrors, these customers could end up in your local!

more of a club/pub than a pub. not a nice place. full of smelly fat men and very abstract women. avoid!

Horrible toilets and bouncers...

Don't know what everyone's whinging about. Loads of tellies, massive screen, half reasonable food, all the sport on. Lager is relatively cheap. Cheer up people
DanR - 28 Feb 2006 16:35
Rather cold, dark and empty during the day - presumably much better at night

Shudder. 'Tis a "branded drinking experience", not a pub. Fits in perfectly on West Street though.

West Street for a night out is generally awful, The Walkabout isn't that bad actually, a large bar with comfy sofas and a large main area by the big tv screen. A good pre gig or night out kinda place, certainly wouldnt want to stay there to long in the evening, full of lager louts early evening onwards if thats your thing be there for 8 or 9 onwards. Food is pritty average, slight inprovement on nearby witherspoons (is that saying anything?) drink wise as you would expect from a bar like this no ales, just bitters usually tetleys or john smiths. Not bad for a west street dive, generally average if you have any sense go to ship street or middle street nearby for a nicer establishment.

More of a bar than a pub with a dancefloor, good music, good atmosphere etc. Good during the week, but went there on a Saturday and the drinks were unbelievably overpriced compared with other places!
phoebebuffay - 9 Feb 2005 19:43
What a great place. Especially sport lovers - great atmosphere - fantastic staff and relaxed patrons - none of the 'in your face' drunks found elsewhere in little boozy pubs. Keep up the good work!
Macushla - 16 Nov 2004 13:09
Not a pub. One of a growing number of Brighton 'bars' that are destroying the local pub scene by offering cheap beer. Fair play, i dont want to be a killjoy, if you want to get out and about with people from all over the country and world excellent place. But there's no beer served here - only weak Oz lager!

i love walkabout. really nice atmosphere, good music and lovely aussie staff. Neal is number 1
lenka - 29 Aug 2004 12:24
Great Walkabout, great staff, great band, great atmosphere. Cant wait to come down to Brighton again.

Walkabout in Brighton is a great venue for watching any type of sport on the big screens. Good atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. I think the spaciousness of the place is a big bonus and makes it much better than any other Walkabout I've visited. See you there - maybe for the Euro 2004 (great for othercountrysupporters!!!)
Katja - 10 Jun 2004 13:14
i went there dressed as a cow girl ( a group of us did)
and we had our water pistols TAKEN OFF US!
i thought this was supposed to be a fun pub but the bar staff were seriuosly lacking any humour.
also some random bird was about taking pictures, any one have any idea who she waas ??

The Walkabout Brighton has to be the best pub for all round entertainment in Brighton! Cheaps drinks, heaps of people and great food! Dont know why you would want to go anywhere else! And not to mention the HOT aussie bar staff!

Visited yesterday - no real ale, but an "ok" bottle of Hahn's imported lager was a good enough accompaniment to my kangaroo burger (which was good). Pub is part of a chain. A fairly wide range of Australian lagers offered, with Fosters and Castlemaine XXXX on electric dispense. Had to battle, however, for a table as people snatch it off you the second you go and place an order at the bar. Shame there isn't an area for non-smokers. I had to move table as three people who joined me didn't have the manners to ask if they could smoke while I was going to have a meal. Loud music means you have to speak equally loudly in order to be heard. Big screen tv for sports etc. Not ideal for a quiet pint but quite good value for food and you can be in and out in 20 mins which is good. For a more enjoyable time try the Basktmaker's Arms.

Yeah I know that I slated the Walkabout in Shepherd's Bush but this is a completely different kettle of fish. Massive place, plenty of big screens for sporting events, good bands playing in the evening, great food, good atmosphere, toilets are spotless. Good place to watch the next rugby World Cup, time difference permitting. Naturally there will be plenty of Aussies, Kiwi's and Springboks in the place but I've never seen any bother. Rugby shirts abound but somewhat bizarrely you're likely to be turned away if you enter wearing a football shirt.
