I'm not into football and haven't been on a match day, but as you can guess from it's name the pub IS a shrine to Arsenal and well worth a look if you are a fan but not concerned about the ale.
I've only been there for the live music, and the times I've been it has been a good little music venue. It's shite for real ale though - several pumps on the bar but only one in use, and sometimes not even that! They only had London Pride last time I was there, although a decent selection of bottled beers in the chiller cabinet. £5 for a bottle of Bishops Finger that I can get from Aldi for £1.20 is seriously taking the piss though! Talking of piss - the toilets are fucking freezing and the hot taps don't work. Nor does the hot air hand drier - disgraceful for a pub that charges rip-off prices for it's ale. Got to say the bloke behind the bar in sports attire and a baseball cap was really good at his job though - very keen to serve you drinks.

Really great place, and as you can see by my user-name I am a Royals fan. I went on a weeknight to watch some bands and was impressed by the whole operation. Good range of drinks at reasonable prices. The staff were great hosts too, and I especially liked drinking the ale out of a traditional dimple glass. I haven't been on a match day but definitely recommend this place on weeknights.

I only set foot in this place because it was once run by someone in my family (when it was The Globe, in 1892, William Wimberley was his name). Basically just a drinking barn for supporters of the football team up the road.

This pub has recently changed hands and is the place to drink on matchday. beer is good and clean, a nice crowd too at the weekend
|
Wots up with the beergarden?
|
As has been said the pub lacks character unlike the Bank up the road.Went there on a non match day and it was dead. Its a big shame
|
If you want to see the Arsenal memorabilia (of which there is much) best visit on a non-matchday when you can browse to your heart's content.
I visited on a matchday last weekend and it was very busy. Not a place to have a conversation with much loud music and an intellectually-challenged compere whose sole aim seemed to be to whip the fans into a frenzy.
Bar staff coped admirably with orders coming from all directions - no complaint re service. A bog-standard working class boozer.

As an Arsenal museum its great but as a pub its dead.It has no character unlike the "Bank" further up the road.
|
Very poor pub.I'm an arsenal fan but avoid this pub. The beer is flat and not very cold. And the place smells of damp. Rating 2

Having a soft spot for Arsenal I was looking forward to having a look around this pub at the famous memorabilia and I wasnt disappointed as there are all sorts on display. Unfortunately the pub itself has as much character as the bog standard lagers it churns out and there seems to be little interest from the local inhabitants.
There are a couple of pool tables in the back room and numerous plasma screens dotted about the pub which proudly states on the board outside that if its on well show it, there obviously wasnt much interest in the Spanish match that was airing then. The barmaid was nice enough, but after exhausting the sights I decided to make haste.
Good for football, but not a lot else.

If you are an Arsenal fan, this is a pub you should visit at least once - it is full of Arsenal memorabilia, old programmes, signed shirts, photos etc. It was also, of course, featured in the the film 'Fever Pitch'. A possibility therefore for your pre or post match pint - or for watching away games on Sky (where the atmosphere is second only to being at the game).
However, if you aren't a Gooner, this pub will have no attractions whatsoever for you. Further more, even if you are a die hard Arsenal fan, I would advise only going on match days: at other times it would be just another grotty boozer with nothing really to recommend it whatsoever. Much better trying the 'Bank of Friendship' a few doors up the road.
|
Not one I'd choose, maybe ok for watching the post match highlights but that's it. The Bank of Friendship is a far, far better bet.
|
Use to be a top pub, suppose it still is but now we have moved there are better pubs. Try the Rocket its for all Arsenal fans and does beer promotions on match days or the Herbert Chapman they are both close to Holloway road tube station. Gunners still could be good for away games on sky or PPV. I will update soon

Souless pub only used on game days. Avoid unless going to/from a match.
|
This pub is an unofficial Ipswich Town pub too on the sly..

Dosn't this place close early coz the Landlord is some sort of misreable Ipswich fan ? Thats what I read in an Arsenal fanzine anyway. Wouldn't touch the pub with a barge pole on match days , there are plenty of decent pubs around Highbury so why everyone packs into this one is beyond me.
|
great pub for a pint after the game, however massively overpriced, totally packed out for about an hour after any game but then starts to empty a little making it a nice place for a drink, although early closing seems a tad strange.

Why Does The Gunners Close so Early 5:30 what a joke

The best pub ever!!! Discovered it 7 years ago while living in London, Finsbury Park, used to spend my evenings there playing pool and having a few pints with my friends..... p.s. Had an extreme crush on an Irish lad who worked there as a bar tender, Martin Hennessy :) Would love to get in touch with him again....please e-mail me if you know anything about him :)

Cheers Chris!....glad you like my staff at least!.....Rob....Manager Gunners pub.{The boring moody one}

Used to love it, been drinking there since i was 15, then realised what beer was ment to taste like. a little tip for when visiting the gunners is to buy a bottle of beer rather than the expensive watered down pints. Rob tends to wipe the smile off you're face too with his boring moody, ways. big love going out to all the bar staff especially the beautifal jo!

Strictly for Arsenal supporters. Not much for the typical pub crawler.

Gunners does have live music now and sometimes very good too - Calvin Jones was excellent. Beer is regulation but as I drink Stella that's okay. Good crowd.

Terrible beer though!

The pub for Arsenal Supporters. A popular and friendly pub. Good for a singsong. Soon to have live music, apparently.
