I came upon this pub while out cycling. I was pleased and surprised to find they stock Surrey Gardens cider, as I hadn't known any pubs carried it. It is a tasty cider made by a local cidermaker near Guildford, who makes cider from apples collected from gardens and small orchards and swopped for cider.
I gather the pub was closed for a while and is now re-opened as a free house run by a local man, so hopefully the many negative comments below refer to the previous management.
Odd opening hours: 4 - 11 on Mon-Fri, 2-midnight Sat, 2 - 10 Sun.
I only had a drink, but noticed signs for pizza on Fri & Sat and Sunday roasts.

My husband and I celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary at the Fox, Worplesdon, with friends and family. We chose this pub/restaurant having eaten there before, because of the atmosphere, the food is delicious and beautifully cooked, also great selection, friendly and efficient staff, nothing had been forgotten, the attention to detail with flowers placed in the room had even been thought of. The chef and staff made our evening one to remember, cannot wait to go back for another meal soon!

My friend and I had sunday lunch here, the food was well cooked and good value for money so we returned for an evening meal which again did not disappoint... we had sausage and mash which was delicious..together with the stylish decor, comfortable surroundings and friendly staff..a lovely pub.

Spent an evening with friends and we all really enjoyed the food, service and the fireplace! This is a updated traditional pub with fine dining, the staff looked after us and the owner chef actually came out to see us at the table. We will return.

Absolutely awful pub and I would never, ever return! Just about everything about the pub is poor; the service, the food etc! It appears they're trying to be a 'gastropub' and failing miserably! The food is very overpriced and there's no real selection. The staff weren't anything to write home about, and the toilets greet you as you enter the pub, which isn't one bit warranted!

Cracking little local pub with fine ale. Landlord and staff very pleasant and i had a lovely lunch in a well attended garden. Looking forward to a return visit

Not sure previous reviews can be of the same place, I had a 12oz sirloin with fries and a salad and choice of sauce and it was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. My partner had the fish pie which was definitly home made and delicious. Staff were welcoming and the cleanliness and decor great. perhaps the head chef has a day off, well worth a visit wish it was my local.

Went here for a date last night and it's a good job the company and the booze was good, as the food was terrible! Over priced, no garnish, dry, staff were unattentive, but to give him his due, the bar man was terribly polite. Now I can understand why its so quiet whenever I drive past it to go home! Go to The Royal Oak instead or The White Hart.

i spent a delightful evening eating with my girlfriends, the food was well cooked and the service was warm and friendly.not often that we find a traditional old pub with such a full menu and with the bonus of a fire!

Visited for Xmas Day, had a fantastic meal, returned last week for Sunday lunch and it again was great. Warm, friendly great food what a change from the chains!
|
Visited last month. On a Friday night it was nearly empty. The staff were rude and the prices were extremely over priced. Did not stay too long and then went to White Hart up the road. Completely opposite to the fox. At White Hart it was buzzing with customers, drinks reasonably priced. Decor stunning.

GK IPA and a not great Courage Best. Not onvious they serve real ale as you come in the door as they are around the side in what looks like a restaurant area. Clean and "bar-like". Large garden out front. Not one to rush back to.

I went on Sunday for lunch and the food was terrible. We ordered from the set menu and the food can only be described as awful. It was a badly cooked home meal with little flavour. The dessert was equally terrible. I have been to better Wetherspoons! Avoid at all costs.

Very dissapointing, I have been to The Fox before and last time it was a wonderful experience with good food and wine.
Complete contrast this time, different owners I believe, food was poor and service was terrible.

Not so good on a second visit by my wife and friends service was quite poor compared to our previous visit. Main course Ok deserts not there higlight.

My first time for Lunch at this pub since the new owners took over. What a pleasent suprise, really nice and friendly. Excellent food at a good price.

Tiny bar, not much of a choice of beer. Food from a small menu was relatively good, but nothing special. Background music was from a very short loop which included Achey-Breaky Heart. As far as I'm aware, this is banned under the Geneva convention. If it isn't, it should be.

We were not disappointed with our second visit to this hostelry which consists of very pleasant olde worlde restaurant, a small bar and saloon area. We chose to eat in the bar area. After our order had been taken we were served with fresh bread and pat of butter served in its own bowl which I thought was a nice touch and unusual in a pub restaurant. We chose fish pie and duck breast with orange sauce, and one summer pudding between two of us. For drinks we ordered, a soft drink, pint of beer and large glass of red wine. The total bill was 38.00 for the two us without the tip, which we thought was value for money. The waitress service was very good and attentive throughout the meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will no doubt return again.

A great location, great decor and efficient, friendly staff spoiled only by a limited and unchanging menu. The menu, with the very odd exception, hasn't really changed in the past 2-3 years. We find ourselves returning every 6 months or so just in the hope that things have changed. The food is always of a good standard, but the lack of variety and somewhat higher than usual prices are a drawback.
|
I went to this pub for dinner last night. I have to say I will not be going back!!!!!! The bar prices put me off to start with, two doubles costing 10.10!!! steep even for doubles. The menu was pricey too. If the food had been good I would not mind but it was bland and tasteless. There are better places to eat in the area with more atmosphere!

This is what a "gastro pub" (I shudder to use the word) SHOULD be like - great decor, wonderful but not pretentious food and genuinely friendly staff.
Lovely on a sunny evening in the garden, and just as nice tucked up indoors in the winter.
Good selection of beers too (I know that's most people's main concern!)

This is a lovely pub - the (not so new now) owner has done wonders with the place. The food is supurb - can't fault it, and the beer is in good condition. It can get very busy, but as long as you are patient its worth the wait. Plenty of dining area in the two bars, and if you go to the loo spend some time chuckling at the decoration!!!
