True mangotoes, shame, but it was a right shite hole.

Thank goodness this terrible pub has now closed for good! I grew up just round the corner and the Crix was the scene of many of my first drinking experiences most of which Ive happily forgotten. As I got older, I would return occasionally when visiting my family but this place was always so unwelcoming, a locals pub except without the warm, hospitable atmosphere you would expect from such a label. The pub is now being turned in to a Chinese restaurant by the owners of the fab E&O in Chobham while I am sad Westfield has lost its only pub, and know that if the right people had gotten hold of this place it could have all been so different, I have to say this will be a vast improvement for the area! I just feel sorry for the Mayford Arms, as all the Crix regulars will no doubt be polluting their pub from now on.

open again the bloke from goldies now owns it so it should be back on chavtastic form very soon
Closed again - does anyone know whats going on down there?
Not surprised Ben didnt last long when dealing with such 'wronguns' as yourself Grumbleweed. You must take great pride in drinking in such a dump and having no vision to see how pleasant and inviting the pub could be without you and your wrongun friends ruining it. Happy Days!!
ben didnt last very long about a day <gg> but duncs & trace are running it now - happy days
Hello my name is Ben and I will be re-opening The Cricketers very soon as a family orientated pub with restaurant. People of all gaes welcome including children for a meal or drink (no alcohol for the kids!). Staff and chef needed so drop a C.V in from Tuesday 24th. I hope to see a full happy pub very soon. Look out for the chalk boards outside in the near future for more details for exact opening time. See you soon
Not sure whats happening wasn't one of my favourite haunts but always a shame to see a boozer boarded up hopefully it will re-open in the style of the good old Bernie days :-)
its been boarded up i thought it was supposed to re-open this weekend anyone know whats going on?
temporary closed look forward to the reoening love this den of wronguns

temporary closed look forward to the reoening love this den of wronguns
very quiet and not the most welcoming of atmospheres we only stayed for one drink wont be going back
Heard the rumour that it was closing in the new year would be a shame to lose a local institution hope somebody buys it quick
this pub should not close! it would be shame if it did!! :( :( :( :(
Emma's back :-)))))) worth keeping it open now
Better than it used to be. It would be ashame if it closed. Can be very empty as things go.
I heard this pub was closing down is this just a rumour
Noticeably, just the one real ale on tap. So better for lager, nontheless the real ale was good.
Quiet venue on last visit, even the Live Music does not bring in the punters. Nice venue, and not rough as some have suggested. Although the gentleman's room needs a slight sort out. :-) 9/10
I would agree with last comment. Since Emma has gone the service has gone downhill. Barmaids more interested in their mobile sthan serving customers. Real Ale can be hit and miss and sometimes do not have any on as they have runout. Food still good and large helpings.
Emma was the only good thing about this dire pub now she's gone I wont bother going back
Not a place I'd return to the locals made it a bit intimidating to an outsider beer wasn't the best and the atmosphere wouldnt encourage you to hurry back!
This pub is known locally as deal or no deal for obvious reasons!
New owners taken over and some renovation taken place. Food is now good and worth the money for the large helpings. Have two real ales on most times and these are changed regularly. London Pride, Bombadier, Black Sheep have been recent offerings. Friendly staff but service could be a little better.
the pub is better than it ever was before, still a dew undesirables but worth a visit
Doubly good, a jam session on thursday night every week, and anothr on a Monday, 1st Monday of the month. Try them both, some different faces at the 2 different jam nights. Live bands on a Saturday too. Could this be the next big music pub in Woking? let's hope so.

Last Thursday's jam was a real blast.
Well over 50 people there - great atmosphere, good music, fine beer and a pretty bar maid; and apart from the beer (2.70 a pint), all free - you couldn't ask for more!
So if you like live music in the blues-rock tradition, get down there on a Thursday evening - starts 8.30pm.
I kid you not - the Thursday jam is an all-genre electric jam, which has relocated from the White Lyon, Worplesdon from this week and is in addition to the Monday jam at the Cricketers. The Thursday jam, organised by Pete Doyle, is one of the best jams in the Surrey Blues Delta. See you there.
everylittlehelps says jam night on 8.45 every Thursday, it's not a thursday it's a Monday. Come down and listen.

The excellent Thursday jam which used to be held every week at the White Lyon in Worplesdon has now moved to the Cricketers in Westfield.
The Cricketers management are keen to develop live music in a pub that has a history of live music going back at least to the early days of Paul Weller's band The Jam.
Come along on a Thursday and join in or just look and listen or even dance and sing along! Tell all your friends who might want to come along too.
The jam starts at 8.45pm, every Thursday.
We were initialy wary about trying this pub but the new owners have transformed it. It has great potential as a premier music venue. Give it a try. They have bands on Saturday evening and jam nights on Mondays.
Decor is a vast improvement, at least the new owners are making an effort, not sure if it will change the clientele
Recently half of this pub has been redecorated. Almost like two different pubs inside
New Jam Night starting next Monday, 25th June at The Cricketers. Bring your own instruments, start time 9pm. Everyone welcome!
New owners seem to be making an effort disco is a bit heavy, not a pub for the fainthearted
hole
The music has returned! It is a bit retro but that's no bad thing
Will2 - 19 Mar 2007 19:26 |
Not a lot has changed since under new ownership not a very upmarket type place.
Afraid the music was not on this week. Always feels a bit quiet but perhaps the music will return again soon
It's much better than it used to be, discos are good
Appears to have started live music again. Will be on Saturdays
Will2 - 21 Feb 2007 18:10 |
It has recently changed hands, not sure if it will be for the better, still doesn't seem very friendly
Not that good!.. Just add to the entertainment of a pub
Now changed hands iv`e been told. Aleman are you any good at the quiz`s your always on about or do you keep missing them?? Just asking!
What has happened to the live music that was supposed to be on Saturdays? Pity that it isnt on anymore, still the guinness is as good as it should be
a bit on the quiet side but not as grim as I feared - the barmaid was really friendly and I liked the dog too.
I spent the first 24 years of my life living about 500 yards away from this pub, but only ever ventured in to it accompanied! The regulars are very regular (i.e. never leave the premises!) - comes complete with requisite dog and barmaid who's worked there since the 80's (with the same haircut too by the looks of it).
Not what I'd call a friendly place for strangers, and the beer is a bit crap too. I would recommend you go a bit further along the road to the Mayford Arms for your pint if in the area.
Be afraid - be very afraid.... The Landlord is scary!
OK it's not everyone's pint of beer but if you go in a bit and act friendly the staff are actually really pleasant.
As for the guy who got told to stick his change up his harris - that's Bernie for you; get him sober and he's irrascible, get him tipsy and he's offensive.

I frequent this pub from time to time on Saturday lunch times, using while my children are having music lessons at a nearby school. It's a good place to watch live footy. However, I have had a bad experience in this pub. I was short changed by 10 and although the money was returned to me the landlord told me to 'stick it up my *rs*. Not quite the ambience I had in mind for a lunchtime drink.
Grim chav pub. Service with a grunt. Only thing going for it is the Sky Sports subscription!
