Now a restaurant (Browns?)
Has become the Ivory Lounge. Layout the same as before with the decor updated. If you liked it before you will probably like it again, if not then you still won't. If you've not been before, you can still use the previous reviews to make your judgement.

Food isn't bad and cool handwashing area! Better as a lunch spot though - music's too loud in the evening and the drinks are expensive. I suppose it depends on what you want out of a night out though.
Newcy Broon gone, only Budvar can save us now...
Too noisy, too dingy, too expensive.
Not bad but heard some toff talking about vaginas in here - ruined it
Don't remember seeing any chavs, but I could see how a place like this would attract the people below. Average. There are better drinking establishments in Reading.
Armarni Army !!! outside seating in summer is cool tho although you have to get ther @ 7am to get a seat
On a hot summer's day when you can sit out side by the water you might consider this place but avoid in the evening (especially Friday / Saturday) unless you're really into drinking alchopops and are happy being having your conversations being drowned out by loud music. A typical "booze Britain" pub.

Welcome to chav-valley, Reading's Oracle Centre. Decorated in the usual way bars seem to be at the moment, you could be in any bar along Friar street, or in the Oracle, they're all the same, soul-less atmosphere
Snobby.
Not my favourite part of town. Lager drinking suburbian NIMBYS and chav's frequent the centre.
Bar itself was OK, reasonable service and charasmatic interior.
Like drinking at Dr Karl's surgery, dig that glass brick wall. No ale on, but had a Newcy Broon. Now only if they could get Stefan Dennis over as guest barman...
The fast food of bars in Reading. Populated with style-less people and dedicated to ignoring any originality, this place is so commercial it hurts. The slowly dating interior is reminiscent of a theme that lost its appeal many years ago, but somehow the people still flock. Soulless and utterly dire, but if you're looking for an early-40s frizzy haired single mums - world is your oyster here.

Quite like this pub, people seem abit standoff-ish but they do make nice cocktails, however dont expect a chair unless u turn up at 6 with a reserved sign.
I have had good and bad nights here. Prices are high and beer isn't great. Also find it gets very hot and this can make your drink too warm
Overpriced and called Bar 38 presumably as that is the average age of the clientale. Still they do have sofas and you get a beautiful view of oracle happy shoppers and the horror facade of said sterile shopping centre. Yeah right.
Quite stylish, but the loud and poor music and expensive prices let the place down.
Nice, relaxed atmosphere, slightly older crowd than some of the bars (late twenties -thirties crowd) Reasonably inexpensive (some offers rival the student pubs) crap music and proximity to Brannigans (taking some of it's overspill) mark it down a bit.
It's a chain but compared to it's neighbours in the Oracle it is actually pleasantly suprising. Certainly worth a look - and the food is pretty good too.
Bar 38 is one of the few chain bars that retain an element of style. I've visited the Reading establishment on two occasions now, and must confess that I have been disappointed with it overall. Firstly, I find it to be mostly overcrowded (with plenty of 'unselective' visitors from a rather shoddy student nightclub located next door) and the upstairs to be rarely open. This is by no means a poor location, but I personally favour the Maidenhead Bar38 over this.
I liked it, my boyfriend hated it. Lots of gorgeous girls behind the bar though....dont know whats wrong with him! I think that its a good place to go for a couple before you really get going..poss pre pre club.

Good mid-evening bar before heading off to the final venue. Classy London style of decor and a nice chilled out feel. Staff seem friendly but drinks a bit on the pricy side. Check out the hand washing fountain it's the dogs testicle sacks!

Identikit chain pub. Better than most of the other options in the Oracle centre.
