Daytime drinking hole for dossers and chavs.Druggies frequently harass customers outside from nearby hostel.Often empty in the evening, except for exceptionally loud and raucous weekend disco.Real ale choice negligible, but everyone seems to drink the overpriced cider and lager anyway. This pub caters for the type of unreformed drinker thankfully in decline. Not a pub where strangers are welcome.

A very welcoming, friendly locals pub. Great if you don't want to drink with students. Staff friendly and the food is very good and reasonably priced. Only Two little moans: food availability and severely limited real ale. Overall a great little pub!

attractive looking pub from exterior so was naturally drawn off the bus at the stop outside, its a marstons pub with very limited ale choice (marstons pedigree and banks's original) opted for the uninspiring pint of pedigree however @2.40 was quite reasonable, very good value food menu aswell including Sunday roasts for just 4.95 6/10

The Banks's is 2.10 now but that's not a bad price these days. Comfortable and cosy inside, a good pub for a winter's evening.
|
Banks Bitter & Original - 1.90 per pint, Fosters - 2.00 per pint. Sunday Roast - 4.95, meals selection - 2 for 4.95. This is obviously one of my regular pubs, so I have a soft spot for it.
|
At the moment, prices are: 2.00 for Banks Bitter, 2.25 for Pedigree, 2.30 for Carling or Fosters. Food has got better, and well priced.
|
Khippy posted Carleberg 1.90 - wrong, called in for a pint or two, 1.55, and thats after the buget, must be the cheapest pub in South Birmingham.
|
Well, they have finally given the place a lick of paint. Very cluttered tho. Bitter & Carlsberg at the mo is 1.90 a pint. The menu has been updated. The staff are okay, quite friendly. As per my previous entry - a few freaks every now & then!!!

This has been one of my regular-ish pubs for the last 10 years. The prices have got better, 1.70 for Bank's Bitter and 2.15 for Pedigree. Quite reasonably kept as well. As for the locals, they are the usual assortment of south B'ham oddballs. Some good, some not so good.

The Bear and Staff is a dive inside but it is nice to sit in the beer garden on summer days. The prices are suprisingly high compared to other pubs in selly oak so id sugest this is a good pub to have a pint or two in but not a place to spend a whole evening.
|
The Bear & Staff ain't so bad you know...nobody is unwelcome here, the people are friendly enough. I wouldn't rave about the beer; I find that Banks' tends not to agree with me too well. But it's still a nice place to go.

The food's not bad either!

Good, comfortable locals pub (not many students, but not unwelcome when they do show up) near the hospital. Banks'-owned, beer not bad and cheapest in the area.
