Getting even better - recently had a Beer and Blues weekend with live music and great selection of unusual ales. Popped in to have a quick one with a mate but was so impressed that we stayed about three hours. Keep on doing what you're doing!!

Has had a complete revamp and is now called "The Hop Garden". Decor is sort of shabby chic and puts you in mind of a sort of surfers/beach bar. The commitment to real ale is hugely impressive with a frequently-changing range of offerings from a whole load of interesting and lesser-known breweries. Well worth a visit!

This is a pub that is much nicer than you would expect from the outside. Inside it is clean, bright and has a contemporary feel to it. Different sections tucked away.

I had a pint of Red Baron (Davenport Brewery) which cost £3.40 or £3.60. Also available were two ales from Wye Valley - HPA and Butty Bach. There was a fourth pump which was not in use at the time of my visit.

Nice pub, nice pint, nice atmosphere but not too lively - would be happy to visit again.

Reopened after a makeover. Some internal alterations but nothing too drastic. Lots of sport-related pics on the walls. Beer ok, but limited choice. All right for a quick couple.

Currently closed - some dispute between the brewery and the owners, apparently.

Much improved now the previous disinerested management have been replaced. Very welcome outlet for excellent Highgate/Davenports beers and, judging by how packed it was on Friday, is definately moving in the right direction.

Despite many trips to harbourne and doing all the high st pubs, I made my first visit to the sportsman on a saturday a couple of weeks back. Enjoyed a nice pint of morrissey fox ale. Friendly welcome by the barman and the regulars even though we only had one... will be back im sure

The staff in here are clueless about beer- I once asked for a bottle of Innis and Gunn (ale), the woman behind the bar tipped it into a j20 glass with ice!!!
The same woman aggresively iD'D my 26 year old mate and said that prove Cards don't count........

This pub used to be lovley, unfortunately it seems to have gone severly downhill. The staff seemed really uninterested and the cask ale i tried was flat and tasted off. My wife and i wanted to eat but were told the kitchen was closed, we were really disapointed with the state of the sportsman...what a shame

The problem with doing up a pub is that you can go overboard. Its happened here, everythings so clean that your scared to put your drink down in fear of making a mess.

Recently refurbished and a lot better than it was. The beer range is improved with continental lagers and 3 handpumps, although it's often not all on, so not sure how seriously they're taking it.

not so good now after they removed Dean Price as the manager. The pub had a long drug problem untill he arrived to sort it out and bring in some past customers.Great times whilst he was there
and the reason being you were made to feel welcome.Shame the company did not see him for what he had done.dont go there no more hence the above

Newley redone. AT LAST. Haven't completely blitzed it but done a great job of moving it on. It now serves food from 12 - 9 and has an ace chef. Loads of choices on beer and now 3 handpulls rather than the one. Made it no smoking and done a bit in garden to add to attraction. If you want a decent atmosphere and a bood bit of grub just off harborne main street would def recommend it.

Best place on a warm evening. The great garden is ideal for sicking up in towards the end of a harborne pub crawl.

Used to be a great pub. It's got a massive beer garden at the back that nobody knows about.
