This used to be a great pub, it was completely ruined by some hair brained renovation. It was one of my greatest dissapointments to see this place in it's new format. Aaaarrggggg !!!

Have to concur, it's horrible and lost it's soul. Plus the layout is rubbish. A MASSIVE bar island takes up the middle of the downstairs (there's an upstairs bit too), and the tables are little sad affairs scattered round the perimeter. It seems half the size of the old golf.

This used to be one of the most character filled,atmospheric pubs in edinburgh and the refurb to a sports bar has completely ruined the place -- , seems to be the way edinburghs going sadly .

Ruined is an understatement .... I went into shock ... revisiting old student haunts (I am talking 17 years ago) I walked into something that looks like an American idea of a golf-themed bar ... it is horrid ... truly horrid . Euurrgghh.

This used to be one of my favorite ever pubs, until it had the most souless "style bar" type makeover imagineable. When I first saw its new incarnation I was almost moved to tears, to think, no-one will ever sit on comfy leather sofas and rest their feet on slightly suspect old carpet in the Golf again. It breaks my heart. Still you can still get pint there after a round of golf on the links, I suppose. Sob.
