A decent pub with a good selection of cask ales and decent food.

Just had a makeover and for the better it was rather grubby. Had cask black sheep it was quite nice . i use to avoid as i have put it was getting rather grubby but will pop in every now and then because of the makeover and a decent pint. It also serves meals now too.

Charming bar with courtyard, tucked away down one of our lovely little cobbled streets. Popular but quiet and never packed out - a good meeting point to start the pub crawl around the 'old town' on a saturday night!

This is a great local pub, well worth a visit. Especially in the summer as the courtyard is fantastic.

Though it's not got "chihuahuas" in cages! They're chipmonks.

They used to have a jazz club on a Thursday night, called the Jazzmakers. Nice.

Courtyard really comfortable in summer. Staff friendly and approachable even when they've poured your beer away when you're in the bog (!!) The only let down is the beer the quality of which has varied enormously every time I've been in the pub. A good one for the lager drinkers among us...

Difficult to find, I think the Sailmakers became a pub about 10 years ago when the nonsensical licence embargo / cartel that the local counil used to operate (to pretect bass and Hull Brewey I think) was lifted, or rather blown off the books by some smart lawyers. Its hidden behind buildings on Hull's oldest street, High Street, in the old town. You enter through a courtyard that is wonderful in the sun -- its like walking through a jungle. Not just the flora, but running all around the walls are cages inhabited by parrots, chihuahuas and other exotica. The courtyard has tables too, so its great to sit out there and watch their antics.

Inside is a bar thats a bit gloomy, but is very comfortable and has great bar service too. the food is excellent, very wholesome and attractive - not expensive either. This is a real oasis - if only it had a car park!
