Currently closed. Looks as if it could have been a nice pub.

we followed the signs displayed outside advertising meals all day, when we entered the pub we were pleased to see that there were lots of free tables but when we asked if we could have a meal the waitress quickly informed us that she was too busy, was expecting a couple of larger parties and couldn't give us a seat for at least 20 mins. No offer of a seat and a drink while we wait, no offer to look at the menu - they just seemed pleased that we were leaving. Never mind their loss - excellent meal and attention at Chapter One if Forres

On arriving at the pub we were met by the land lady, very lovely. A gorgeous old pub. We looked at the menu, good choices although quite pricey. When the food arrived we were very disapointed. The fillet steak (19.95 ordered med-rare) came out as a slither rather than a nice fillet and was very overdone, the steak pie (9.95) was little more than tinned stewing steak slopped on the plate with a random shop bought puff pastry on the top. The childrens meal (4.50) scampi was the cheapest scampi I have ever seen, especially cosidering the price. The home made chips were homemade but tasted like yesterdays food heated up. Had it not been for the nice land lady I would have sent all of this food back and left. I most of the food was untouched when we left. What a shame. I would consider a new Chef, the food sent out was a let down for the pub.

Visited on a Friday evening at the end of July - not too busy, nice traditional pub feel to the place (definitely eat in the bar rather than the conservatory).

Friendly staff, excellent well-kept local real ales (which are apparently changed quite regularly - try something from the Cairngorm Brewery if one is on) and generally good food that is reasonably priced. Delicious black pudding & stilton in batter starter, very nice pan-fried sea bass fillets, only my friend's crispy duck breast was a disappointment as it was overcooked and chewy. I'm sure it would have been changed without hesitation but my friend is one of those people who still won't complain if food isn't right!

Even so I can recommend this place and will look forward to paying another visit next time I'm in this part of Scotland.

What a great place! Definitely great atmosphere in this Victorian cottage pub. Yes, they serve food; and good and plenty it is as well. One of the top five pubs I've ever been to in Scotland. The owner really cares.

Excelent service and big helpings of good value bar food. Log fire and great ambiance helped by interesting collection of artifacts. Privately owned and supervised. For once background music at correect level i.e. low. Restaurant meals also available in the evenings and Sunday lunchtime.
