August 2009 .. Abrupt and rude bar staff put me right off this place. I tried a pint of Arran bitter which was not to my taste. They finished serving food at 9pm .
I left half my beer and went to the Brodick Bar and Bistro in Alma Road.. OK its not a proper Bistro, and the food was edible but not special.. but they did a good pint of Deuchers, AND most important was friendly and welcoming.

Visited this outlet in June 2009. Had a pint of red squirrel, not on handpump, which I was not very keen on. Nothing wrong with it, just not to my taste. The bar was cosy and well appointed. Barman was chatty but not intrusive. A comfortable place to spend some time.

A nice cosy bar tucked away behind the hotel. I had the 2 Arran beers available, Arran Blonde and Red Squirrel (there was a third, but they had run out), the lady at the brewery told me that out of season it's the only real ale outlet for them on the Island. The beer was excellent, really very good indeed, but it was 3.35 a pint! The 'beer miles' for those particular beers being 1.5 miles.

Best watering hole I've been in & that's quite a few. Meals & snacks, disco, quiz, games, beer garden, folk nights, real ales & all for nothing (entertainment that is !).
Regards,
Max.

Had a great time in this pub. The food was great the beer very good, the barmaid cheeky. Altogether a very good atmosphere. The best pub in brodick by far.

This is a strange place. Like many pubs in Scotland, it is the bar of a hotel, hidden round the back. On my visit there was Arran Ale and, I think, Deuchars IPA, both real but not on hand pump. (It is in the 2007 Camra guide.) I ate the venison casserole and it was pretty good for 9 (great chips!) but presented as a pile of stew, a pile of chips and a uniformly chopped pile of salad pushed together on a tiny plate. Behind a dark bar is what looks to be a Victorian conservatory which was quite atmospheric in the gloaming but needs some fairly urgent attention and it seemed a pity that the furniture was of a village hall style with green plastic table cloths. I couldnt help feeling that it could be a really good pub, close to the great walking country of the north of Arran, but it hadnt really made the effort.

One of the best places in terms of beer quality and choice on Arran. Two Arran ales beers and one guest when we were there, all in excellent condition.

I must also recommend the food - the Venison casserole I had was simply delicious. The Folk club meets here on Sunday nights

I wouldn't go so far as liquidlenny.
It does the full range of Arran Ales ( the brewery is only 5mn away ), but like the majority of watering holes on the island, it's a hotel bar rather than a pub, so consequently has the hotel feel to it.
That said, the beer was good, service prompt and cheerful, and the natives were friendly.
