Under new ownership since the last review and nothing short of excellent. Great location, lovely food and friendly service. Rooms were clean and inviting. Food was all freshly made and so tasty. Great traditional pub with a pool room and darts for the kids. The location was perfect, fantastic views and right on the Offas Dyke path and Montgomery canal. Call to book a room as no online booking for high keeps their costs low. Would stay again, highly recommended.

Went to this pub for sunday lunch with family a few weeks ago. The place feels like you are walking into someone's front room and just using their house for a drink and a meal! We got a table in the 'dining room', through the hallway which had family items on a side board. We had a good sized table for us to spread out for our meal. Overall the service was very hit and miss. The chap behind the bar looked like he was the local farmer who had just milked the cows and then popped down to serve us a few drinks! Our food was disappointing too. The comedy value more than made up for poor food.

Pretty much unspoilt, welcoming pub with a drinking room and adjacent dining area.
Two handpumps on the bar but only one ale is kept, which changes regularly. Hobsons "Town Crier" on our visit was kept perfectly. Grolsch, Brains, Worthington, Guinness and Carling available from the keg taps.
Inglenook and dartboard main features, low wood-beamed cealing and terrazio floor noted, and look for the array of stone and glass mugs hanging from the ceiling. No background music, simply conversation in the pub.
Food is available when the landlady is awake, and the landlord professes to be a keen Laurel & Hardy fan.

Very much the heart of the village - a real effort being made by the landlady. The place deserves to succeed.

Closed.Powis estates tried for change of use but after local petition they relented and have sold it on as a public house.Currently been refurbished.
