please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Dropped in here for the first time yesterday. Had a pint of some dark ale that I can't remember the name of!! But at only 3.8% ABV in was surprisingly good. The barman however was awful!! Is weights and measures had walked in he would have been in trouble, I've heard of short measures but this was truly dismal!! Most of my pint went over the bar!! It took him ages to poor it so I didn't have the heart to ask for it to be topped up!!

The place is actually just a restaurant but I did get served quickly. Will I go back?.........probably not.

i realise this is mainly pub dinning but for those that just like a glass of wine then you could be up for a long wait. Decor nice but then again i believe its a mitchell and butler.

I have to disagree with a few of the previous comments. Maybe it is because they have seen their errors, but my wife and i had a very nice meal indeed. My steak was perfectly cooked and my wife's lamb was very tender, although a tiny bit overcooked. Wine and beer were both excellent too. Will re-visit soon. Baddage

Started off really well, nice welcome, smiley staff, good menu (a little over priced) and a pleasant decor. Sadly it nose dived from there. Very slow service, so slow that our wine arrived a full 15 minutes after the starters!! Food was unacceptable considering the price, not value to us at all.
I just wish breweries would just let pubs be pubs, do 10 things good on the menu instead of 30 badly.

JUST MOVED TO THE AREA. NICE DECOR BUT FOOD NOT SO, HAD TO SEND BACK AS MY CHICKEN SUPREME WAS A BIT TO PINK FOR MY LIKING AND THE RIBEYE WAS MORE LIKE MY LEATHER SOLE OFF MY WORK SHOES. STAFF PLEASANT AND SEEMED TO BE BUSY WHICH WAS A BIT OF A SHOCK. JUST A FUNNY 5 MINUTES FOR THE CHEF MAYBE ??

Not the best beer i have ever tasted by a long way, and the Barmaid looked a little out of her depth. We eventually got a good pint but it did take 45 minutes. We are new to the area and was told this was a busy place. Would have like to stay to eat but saw a bit too much food going back into the kitchen!
I think we will try again soon as although totally disorganized it did have a nice atmosphere. Neilpotts (Windsor)

I went here for my birthday celebration on Fri, 9th July with 4 other people. The pub was very busy. The barman looked very harassed when we asked if we could sit outside. What he failed to say was that there was a different menu served outside so we had to come back in again and sit at our original table.

The service was extremely slow. It took half an hour for them to ask us after we sat down what drinks we would like. There was one hour wait between the starter and main course being served. The Eton Mess dessert had been tainted with cheese and it was a nightmare to get it taken off the bill.

We ordered an extra side salad and that was not served. We also received food we did not order.

When we were served the wine, it was unceremoniously dumped onto the table without being poured into the glasses. We were told that this was a time saving idea but to us, it is a BASIC in table service no matter how rushed it is.

We did not feel welcome or cared about.

My sister complained about all the above and didn't even get an apology!

The food was pretty average, food overpriced and the service and attitude of the staff was bad. Pity because the pub is beautiful. Will not be going here again.

TERRIBLE. REALLY REALLY TERRIBLE. Party of five, we eat out about twice a week. 14 for a steak which is fine but i expect it to be edible. Despite being quite quiet we waited over an hour for one of the apparently renowned steaks. why it took an hour to cook a rare steak i dont know, fatty chewy and completely unedible peice of crap and tough serloin, crap service, no smiles, terrible, try the thomas lord in east meon if you want to see how its done. Harvester is better and that really is saying something..... stay well away

I and 22 others had a Christmas lunch here the other day. I'd say we had an excellent time. The price was very moderate, and I think everyone enjoyed the food. Great atmosphere. My guinea fowl was excellent. The staff were understandably a little rushed at times, but this is a busy time of year, and they stayed cheerful and professional throughout. I'll be back there for sure!

I took my family for lunch here on Sunday, and in spite of it being busy it was really good. The service was fine and the food was delicious. Being the driver I can't comment on the beer but my wife and son both enjoyed the ale on offer.

After reading some of the reviews we nearly went elsewhere but I'm glad we didn't.

I am a regular diner as part of a group of typically 8-12 people a time from a large local office. Service has become noticeably slower over the months. The kitchen has not got to grips with the new menu at all - starters are cold and most worryingly the chicken supreme dish is consistently being served raw - yes - raw chicken in breadcrumbs from the fixed price menu. The young waitress really didn't understand the seriousness of this. The manager did apologise and it was removed from the bill - however it was all so late that we were unable to wait for replacement dishes to be cooked from scratch. On this last visit we simply paid what we thought the meal was worth in view of the service, cold starters and dangerous chicken. We will not be rushing to return.

We went for lunch today. Firstly the service was not good - waitresses stretching across you to serve, no offer of water and we had to ask for serving spoons, forks with desert etc. Waited 40 mins for our starters.
My starter, prawns with salad, was lousy. The prawns seemed 'old', zero seasoning and the marie rose sauce was thick and stodgy.
My mains, roast turkey, was disappointing. Turkey tasteless. Roast potatoes which I am sure had been cooked previously and reheated, soggy. Vegetables were served in a large dish and were floating in milk - which we were told was the cheese sauce for the cauliflower. Stuffing was inedible. Anemic chipolata. My fellow diners had beef which was thickly sliced, masses of fat and rare. Not impressed. Would NEVER go back.

we went to the old forge this afternoon as it is local to us and we fancied a treat. i had chicken and veg pie ,mustard mash and veg. all i can say is the veg was hard. the pastry on the pie dis-intergrated when i stuck my fork in it. the pie base was like chicken and veg soup. to top it all the table was dirty and had empty glasses on it from previous occupants. never again. it was the worst dining experience i have ever encountered!!!!!!!

We live nearby (no - we're not their friends!) and were keen to visit after it was recently refurbished. Very good indeed. Still more of a restaurant than a pub but very nicely fitted out and very comfy after a walk. Would recommend as a pub or as a restaurant. Useful seating area outside but no play area for kids.

Strikes you as being more of a restaurant than a pub. Timothy Taylor Landlord and Ringwood Best were available, the latter was ok. Light and airy place with a ranch style decor.

Preobably only worth it if the food is any good.

I have just had lunch at this pub, the choice for sandwiches amounted to a minescule four "open" sandwiches, in other words, only one piece of bread, with the "filling" on top, ranging from 4.27 for the cheapest, to 5.50 for the most expensive. These open sandwiches were dry, and covered with watercress, some of which was turning yellow, what a rip off, absolutely disgusting. Would never return!

We went there with friends last night for dinner, and were not disappointed. Great ale, great food (generous portions). Lovely atmosphere with fireplaces and old forge items hanging on the walls.

I know many contributers don't like food comments on this site BUT if you like a well cooked steak plus trimings and heavenly warm Chocolate Brownie and ice cream with one of the best pints of Draft Stella I've had in a long time, then give Old Forge a whirl. Some of us only visit pubs when eating and you just do have to accommodate us. Sorry if this causes offence.
