Found it pretty average - ale was okay.

Just re-visited this pub after a break of ten years. I am pleased to report its still good. A nice straight forward boozer. Good beer, nice company. A plesant lunch time can be had here. We visted at halloween and a huge effort had been made to decorate the pub.

Has it really been 4 years since I last posted about this pub.I thought I would give you an update since my last post. The owners are still the same and the pub has lost none of its charm its still a welcoming pub.It has many events on all of which are a lot of fun with the locals putting in a special effort. They have changed the quiz master and the quiz is only on once a month now.Its much more light hearted now and the tray of food each team gets is a nice touch. All in all if you are at lose end you could do a lot worse then popping into this pub

An excellent boozer with a large selection of real ale's which change monthly. A log fire, and a warm welcome, from the new owners, Danny & Liz. A beautiful garden which is well maintained, many different events live music, fancy dress, BBQ. Happy Hour (Bottle Beer Not Discounted) It has one of the best firework displays provided free for everybody, which attracted so many people last year, there was a stage built in the car park with free sparklers and goodies for the children . Also a lot of different live sports shown on a huge plasma screen, also there is a new modern lounge area which is quite with books and board games. The pub has a number of regulars who are all very welcoming with some quite good natured humorous lively banter amongst them. I would have given it a 10 but the price of the bottled beers prevented me from doing this. All in all I would highly recommend it.

I quite like this place.

Not a great choice of ales, but they did a superb pint of 6X and aparently they turn them over quite fast.

Was there with mates early on a Friday night, and as the place filled up just about everybody in there said hello...a genuinely friendly place.

Special mention to the barmaid, who was almost orchestrating the laughter in there...every pub should have someone like her!

Oh...and a wierd many level garden with a great fish pond.

I have been using this pub on and off for the last year and find the ale in good condition. The bar staff and locals are very welcoming.I went in last Thursday in the evening and they had the most boring pub quizz I have ever been to which was bore out in the fact that only 6 people seemed to be playing which ment that the normal atmosphere had gone. The quizz master just hassled me and my friend to play the quizz and then play a different part of the quizz which you had to pay for again very wierd.

I only found this pub because of this web-site so thought it only fair to post a review.I have been on a 6 month contract in Medway and have been to this pub many times. The real ales are in top order but change around a lot. They dont do much food but they do make a very nice pizza in the bar.I found the locals very friendly and welcoming and very easy to talk to.I dont know about the gay/ drunk review the people in there seem to welcome everyone and I can only think that the person has no idea of what they are talking about. The best thing about the pub is the sense of community in there .I popped in on halloween and the whole pub seemed to dress-up and maked a special effort. The week after they had one of the best pub fireworks displays I have ever been too. The pub shows a lot of sport and tries to cover all sports. The bar staff are very help full and I must say I did find the Landlord drunk a couple of times as mentioned in in other reviews, but the landlady is very nice and often came over to talk to me.I would not say that it is an out and out family pub as there is little to do for the children. All in all its one of the best back street pubs I have ever been to and wish there was a who da in my home town.

Brilliant pub. Used to go here on a regular basis, when my friends lived on the same road. It's got a great family atmosphere to it, and attracts the same people really... with a few exceptions... It has a brilliant beer garden... and the bar staff are the friendliest bar staff in Medway I think.

I should go here again more often, as it's a super little pub. When the football is on it has a great atmosphere as well. Highly recommended.

Small but good selection of beers offered Oakham Bishops Farewell, Sharps Eden Ale, Darkstar Sunburst. Wood floored, banquette seating, 2 plasmas golf & GP practice respectively (I just dont get the latter), small real fire, timber clad upper walls, strange little area beyond the bar to rt, with uncharacteristic modern leather sofa. If youve already been to John St, there is an alley leading to Maidstone Rd then a little uphill to here, followed by an easy roll back down.

The anonymous reviewer must be on crack cocaine.

This is the best backstreet local pub in Rochester.
Trabbs_Boy - 16 Dec 2007 02:51
Really friendly place, i think the 'anonymous' bloke is getting it confused with somewhere else as its never had a gay image - its always been a family orientated pub and now has a newly landscaped garden where the kids can play. Has a good range of real ales and crisps. All in all a great little back street local!

popped in recently when checking out the area to possibly move there, seemed ok, a bit too footie prientated to me, but the locals were friendly, and the landlord seemed nice. the garden is a bit weird, but could be nice in the summer,

Ales Warm, staff rude and owner too drunk to serve a beer right. trying to hard to rid itself of image of local drunks and gay bar.
anonymous - 29 Nov 2007 22:23
Ales a bit warm, but otherwise good

An excellent little local pub, with excellent beer. All down a back street you might never find. Who'd a thought it?

Fine real ales, pool table, dart board, quiz machines and juke box all crammed into a friendly local pub with a wide variety of local people.
